“An ISIS-linked operative is reportedly in federal custody for plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush. NBC News’ Tom Winter, citing court documents and law enforcement officials, reported on Tuesday that Shihab Ahmed Shihab “is in custody after the FBI says he wanted to smuggle 4-6 individuals from Iraq into the United States through the Mexico border to kill” Bush. Forbes’ Thomas Brewster first reported on Tuesday that Shihab “had been in the U.S. since 2020 and had an asylum application pending, according to the FBI’s search-warrant application.” The outlet reported that “federal agents used two different confidential sources to investigate the plot, one who claimed to offer assistance obtaining false immigration and identification documents, the second a purported customer of the alleged people smuggler, who was willing to pay thousands of dollars to bring his family into the country.””

But too many still get through. My brother lives near the AZ border.

Hello GP. That is nice your brother lives near there. If you are serious about the issue of border security and what is happening at the southern border let’s talk. Let’s have a discussion.
The statistics say that as more people come to the border the more are apprehended. There are a lot of people coming to the border, but the truth is the border is not open and not being overrun. The majority of those coming to the border want to surrender to the border patrol and they have a legal right to do so. Asylum seekers by US law and treaties the US signed require anyone seeking asylum to be on US territory and the US is required to let them in to be processed. It is against the law to use the policy called title 42 to send asylum seekers back to Mexico to wait until processed and it was soon to be ended both because it was illegal and there was no longer a need that it was falsely based on. However a tRump judge claims tRump as president could use an executive order to make the policy, but Biden as President couldn’t use an executive order to rescind it. Partisan much?
The fact is that only one thing has changed so far on the border and that is unaccompanied minors are not automatically turned away. Every other policy that was being done under tRump is still being done under Biden. Plus the same over eager anti-immigrant people working on the border are still working on the border. Nothing has changed, except no right wing media like Fox claims the border is over run. Biden wants to change polices and should be able to as president, but again tRump appointed Judges are trying to prevent that claiming that even though tRump had the authority to implement the polices Biden somehow doesn’t have that same right as President to end them. I wonder why?
The fact is that while there is an increasing surge of immigrants coming to the southern border it is not anywhere near the historic numbers. What is true is that the polices that were to fix the damage the US did in the past that made those countries that made them so unstable that the people are fleeing was undone by the tRump administration. It was an Obama era set of policies.
The US destabilized and destroyed the governments in those countries with the idea of changing the governments to more friendly US ones. Also the US sent gang members to these countries they were unprepared to handle. MS 13 started in the US and we sent them to El Salvador. We caused the conditions that are sending those people to our country for their own safety and being able to get food to eat.
So if you want to stop immigrants at the southern border then we need to return to the polices under Obama that were working, put money back into stabilizing those governments and help them fight the drug gangs that have made life so dangerous the people are fleeing, and to address the issues that are making people flee to our border.
One last thing. The US needs immigration. Our population is aging and not having babies in enough numbers to support our economy. Plus our country is huge and most people do not realize how large it is. We are not a full country; we have more land than people in some states. But more importantly many US town and cities were going under because the kids left to go to cites, those towns have asked for and welcomed immigrants. In doing so they have revitalized their towns. They brought them back. That is why the US needs to let more people on the southern border in, it helps us. Hugs

I have nothing against immigration and it is terrific that we are here to offer asylum – as long as it is done legally.
I do not agree with your last paragraph for many reasons, but I’m not going to get into it.
The immigrants are given court dates to appear at a later date – do you really think they will? Not very many. We have politicians offering far too much to illegals for them to bother becoming citizens and start paying taxes.

Hello GP. You ask if people seeking asylum will go to their court cases. The answer is yes. Does that surprise you?
If you remove the emotion and look at the data, you see this. People wanting asylum go to their hearings because they want to be full citizens. They want the rights and privileges, the benefits of being legal. So most do come to their court dates to get that thing they worked so very hard for.
Your assertions do not match the facts, sorry. Illegal immigrants cannot get any federal assistance nor most state assistance. The laws specifically deny them the benefits you claim the politicians are giving them. Second the money the undocumented immigrants pay in taxes to government in their wages using fake SS numbers is free money for the government that the immigrant cannot get back. Ever. It is billions of dollars a year. The US gets far more from immigrants than they cost us.
But here is another interesting fact. In 2011 the state of Georgia wanted to show they were tough on immigrations and implemented some really harsh laws against migrants. The state had to repeal them. The migrants left. Crops rotted in the fields as farmers couldn’t pay people enough to pick them. They tried over $25 an hour and back then that was a fortune. Most people did not even last a full day. The state lost millions. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2011/06/georgias-harsh-immigration-law-costs-millions-in-unharvested-crops/240774/

You have facts from years past, where do you get your info? It appears one-sided.

Hello GP. I google the question then look for a reputable source. The quote is DOJ figures as I have seen them before but I pulled it from https://www.humanrightsfirst.org/resource/fact-check-asylum-seekers-regularly-attend-immigration-court-hearings.
The other quote was cited from the Atlantic which is again a credible source.
This is a subject I have been interested in for years because what is portrayed in politically motivated media simply is not true. It is pushing a talking point for political gain. We hear the same stories over and over, but when you dig into the situation of immigration, asylum, and why people are coming to our border you find something totally different. For example, do you know how most illegal / undocumented immigrants get to the US? By plane. Yes it is people who come here on visas and just don’t leave. It is not people invading from the southern border. Those are just the ones talked about the most because they are easy to vilify. How do drugs enter the country? Verified legal points of entry and the mail. It is not drug smugglers racing bundles across the southern border in the desert. Best wishes. Hugs
