The right to have a gun without being in a militia or military was a new right created by gun lover Anton Scalia and even he said there were some limits. That is the meaning of activist judges, he loved guns and played with guns and wanted guns freely taken everywhere. But now the SCOTUS are removing any restrictions based on a mythical romanticized verson of what the US was and founded to be. The fact is for all of US history guns were very tightly controlled, they were not just carried by everyone everywhere. It was not that way. Those myths of the wild west of gun touting people shooting everywhere and people like the rifle man solving all the problem is not real and is a stupid fantasy. The SCOTUS is an ideology driven group that is going to cause the entire country to crash and burn. All to push a religious ideology. Scary. Hugs
Spectrum News has the transcript:
Does everyone understand what a concealed weapon means? That you have no forewarning. That someone can hide a weapon on them and go into our subways, go into our grocery stores, like stores up in Buffalo, New York, where I’m from. Go into a school in Parkland or Uvalde, This could place millions of New Yorkers in harm’s way.
As governor of the state of New York, my number one priority is to keep New Yorkers safe, but today the Supreme Court is sending us backwards in our efforts to protect families and prevent gun violence.
And it’s particularly painful that this came down at this moment, when we are still dealing with families in pain from mass shootings that have occurred, the loss of life, their beloved children and grandchildren.
I’m prepared to call the Legislature back into session to deal with this. We’ve been in contact with leadership — we’re just looking at dates — but I will say, we are not powerless in this situation.
We’re not going to cede our rights that easily, despite the best efforts of the politicized Supreme Court of the United States of America.
This decision isn’t just reckless, it’s reprehensible. It’s not what New Yorkers want, and we should have the right of determination of what we want to do in terms of our gun laws in our state.

and they announced this decision right after they asked for and got beefed up security for Supreme Court justices

We have six IDIOT judges on the Supreme Court.
Idiot: A person of profound mental retardation; A human being destitute of the ordinary mental powers; A person who is considered foolish or stupid.
Synonyms: airheads, birdbrains, blockheads, boneheads, bubbleheads … among others.

P.S. And this comment that you included was spot-on! “That way they can force women to get pregnant and have the baby at gun point.”

Hello Nan. I think about that guy standing on the steps of the fire station yelling ” …You lost, and your body belongs to me and you will have my baby”. You will have my baby. That scares the shit out of me and I am a male unable to be pregnant. That means in the mind of that man and his friends’ women were simply baby factories for their pleasure. Holy shit that may have been the idea in the 1950s that the SC just took us back to, but it is a real fuck you to females everywhere in the US. You are property, first for my enjoyment and second for my future offspring. Nan again I cannot process this, and I am a man. How would a woman let any male have sex with them? This is beyond so fucked up. Hugs

BTW … did you see (or maybe you were the one that posted it?) this video?
No wonder guns have become part of the human environment.

Hello Nan. I boycott Bill Maher. He was once was left wing until he got wealthy and now is right wing and claims everyone left wing is bad or stupid or just not practical like he is. He pushed Amy Klobuchar for president and acted like he was so much superior than anyone who did not agree with him. That is when I stopped watching him. He is just another Dennis Miller. A former left-wing comedian that got wealthy and then he went hard right for the tax breaks and protecting his wealth. 15 years ago I got HBO just to watch Maher but now I don’t watch him at all. He has nothing but right-wing guests and if he has a left leaning guest, he cuts them off and mocks them.
That said I watched the clip. The thing is that these same movies are in all the other countries, yet they don’t have the same mass shootings we do. Why? Because when it comes down to it the one thing we have that other countries don’t have and is guns, easy access to guns!
Notice that before he gets to his punchline, he mentions all the “woke” things that he feels are no longer allowed to be made fun of “If you make a movie today you cannot show bullying, fat shamming, slut shamming, girl chasing, gay baiting, ethnic stereotypes, or underage hookup where drinking is involved, you know what we use to call comedies” and here the audience applauds wildly. Notice what the idea is … all the left woke being nice to people is killing my comedy routines. Then he goes on to his rant about one guy …
Sorry Nan this guy uses his show to mock good and progressive understandings to get back to the Republican talking point that it is movies and violent video games that cause all the mass shootings in the US. But the truth is that those same movies and games are in all the other countries. So what is the real difference? Plus those movies have been around since the Lone Ranger. Again he brings up mental health, smart phones, and at the top of his list is movies and TV violence. Notice what he has as the smallest wedge of the pie, easy access to guns. Fuck him and his trying to be a right winger. Every other country has those same things, they have mental health problems but they have government single payer healthcare to take care of it, the smart phones … really other countries don’t have those, then he goes right to the violent movies … Everything to avoid blaming the real problem which is the US has far too many easy to get guns. The US has a gun problem! I remember a lot of bugs bunny and Elmer Fudd shootings, but we never did mass shootings due to it. Hugs

SORRRY!
I understand your perspective of and feelings about him, but for me, it’s not that big of a deal. Probably because I was never all that much of a fan anyway.
Be that as it may, I DID agree with him that all the “shooting” in movies CAN influence people. No, not the average person/movie-watcher, but the individuals who already have problems dealing with life. I mean it’s like … Hey! if it can work in a movie, why not real life?

Hello Nan. Yes I don’t argue that movies don’t shape some opinions, and everyone loves to see the hero win against all odds. Action movies make more money than other movies. I read a study a long time ago that took little kids, like five to 8 years old I think. They mixed a group of white kids and Native People kids. They showed them a bunch of cowboy’s vs Indians TV shows. Even the Native People kids cheered the cowboys and booed the Indians. So yes it has an influence, which is why China and Arab countries won’t let movies be shown that have any pro LGBTQ+ characters like the recent kiss between to women in the new Buzz Lightyear movie. China banned it. Even though it was only seconds long.
When I was in Germany in the 1980’s nudity was legal and on TV and billboards but gratuitous violence on TV and movies was banned, just the opposite of the US.
My only point Nan is other countries have these same movies and they don’t have the same mass shooting problems. Why? They don’t have the free easy access to guns. Hugs
Not sure what the SORRRY! was about???

It was because you “scolded” me for supporting Maher … which, as I said in response, I really don’t but I did like what he had to say in this instance.

Hello Nan. Did I scold you? I did not think I was, and it was not my intent. I just went back and read my reply. I think you were too sensitive in reading it. I was stating my opinion of Maher and why I went from being a fan of his in his early days to now disliking him. I do not expect others to just agree with me, everyone likes different comedy and political discourse. I think Maher is one of those that when he got to a certain point in wealth his whole view of things changed, and he thinks far too much of himself these days. Like being wealthy gives him privileges and superior opinions over others, which in the US now it does. He has become another Republican talking head on most issues other than he wants to use cannabis. He tends to book guests now that only agree with him. He once used to book progressive guests, but that has stopped. He once attacked an audience member for simply disagreeing with him. That is what I was saying. Hugs

Do you understand the intent behind putting words in quotes?

Hello Nan. To show what someone said or to give context as to what is being talked about. Again I am not seeing how this was me scolding you? Hugs

All I can say is you’re taking the word far too literally. And trying to explain to you the manner in which I was using it isn’t working. So let’s just move on … 😎
