On October 7, Hamas, a militant group based in the Gaza Strip, launched a deadly attack on Israel, killing over 1,400 Israelis and kidnapping over 200. In retaliation, Israeli airstrikes have killed, as of this video, over 6,400 Palestinians in Gaza, where Palestinians have lived for decades under an occupation and blockade.
Since 1967, Israel has imposed tight restrictions on travel and essential goods such as food, fuel, medicine, and water in its occupied territories. In 2007, those restrictions became even tighter in Gaza after Hamas seized power there. Since then, it has been nearly impossible for Palestinians to leave Gaza or to access an adequate supply of essential goods.
Today, the Gaza Strip, with a population of over 2 million Palestinians, is a victim of what many call βcollective punishmentβ as Israel bombards its population, shuts off access to internet, power, food, water, and medicine, forces them to leave their homes, and prepares for a ground invasion.

Videos posted on social media showed a group of about 70 people β some of whom had previously attended similar demonstrations inΒ North Hollywood,Β GlendaleΒ andΒ elsewhereΒ β wearing black-and-white shirts reading, βLeave our kids alone.β They chanted the same slogan through bullhorns while hurling verbal abuse and slurs at the guest reader.
Story hours, during which drag queens read to children at venues such as libraries, schools and bookstores, have drawn fury and condemnation from conservatives and right-wing extremists across the country. Some events have been the subject of anti-LGBTQ+ threats and at times violent confrontations.
ΒWednesdayβs scheduled 30-minute event, which organizers said was intended to promote youth literacy, never took place.

βWhat was meant to be a celebration of love and inclusion turned into the opposite,β Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, the eventβs host, said in a statement Thursday.

Horvathβs staff said in an email that the supervisor, who was inside the library, did not officially cancel the event. But it did not proceed because demonstrators βblockadedβ entrances β denying entry to both library patrons and drag queen Pickle, the guest reader.
Pickle,Β Los Angeles chapterΒ president of the nonprofit Drag Story Hour, said she parked blocks away from the library βfor safety reasons,β anticipating some hostility.
ΒVideo footage showed that San Fernando police officers encircled Pickle near the rear entrance. The phalanx moved toward a metal gate but stopped short as some protesters screamed βpervert,β βpedophileβ and βdisgusting freakβ at Pickle.
About six to eight protesters refused to leave the entrance even after police issued a dispersal order, according to Pickle. The San Fernando Police Department did not confirm or deny whether such an order had been given.
ΒThe drag performer said she and the police then attempted to move to the front entrance. As they walked, protesters blared car horns, refused to move and positioned nearby tables to block the front entryway, she said.
βAt this point, the police werenβt making arrests, they werenβt stopping the mob and they were allowing an unelected group of people to determine who could and who could not access a public building,β Pickle said. βShame on the San Fernando police.β
Pickle received a text from Horvathβs staff telling her to leave since she was unable to enter the building. After receiving a police escort back to her car, she did so.
βThey canceled the event and I canβt believe how they handled the situation,β Pickle said, referring to staff from the library and Horvathβs office. βThis goes beyond hurt feelings. This is about civil rights and they shouldnβt have invited me down if they werenβt going to stand up for them.β

Questions emailed to L.A. County Library personnel, who oversee the San Fernando Library, were not immediately answered Thursday.
Pickle said she has attended about 50 drag story hour events, but this was the first canceled in person.
A story hour she was scheduled to appear at in Glendale last spring was canceled ahead of time, and protesters also disrupted another of her storybook hours in Sherman Oaks in April.
San Fernando Police Lt. Pete Aguirre said 10 officers were deployed to the library.

During a lengthy appearance on Talk TVβsΒ Piers Morgan Uncensored,Β Youssefβwho has been calledΒ Egyptβs Jon Stewartβreferenced his Palestinian wife and Gazan in-laws when asked to give his opinion on the brutal Hamas terror attacks.
βOh, it was terrible, of course,β Youssef replied. βI mean, we get all our news secondhand because my wifeβs family lives in Gaza. They have cousins and uncles there and their house also was bombed. We haven’t been able to communicate with them in the past three days. Communication has been lost so we don’t know how they are doing, but we are used to that!β
From there, Youssef dove deeper into the satirical well to describe theΒ atrocious conditionsΒ Palestinians are facing in Gaza, as well as the threat of non-stop violence they are subjected to from the Israeli military.
ΒβThose Palestinians, theyβre very dramatic. βAh, Israel is killing us,β but they never die,β he declared. βI mean, they always come back. Theyβre very difficult to kill, very difficult people to kill. I know, because Iβm married to one. I tried many times. I try to get to her every time, but she uses our kids as human shields.β
When Morgan said he understood Youssef was employing βdark humorβ on the topic, the former Egyptian television host shot back: βNo, itβs not dark humor. I really try to get her every time but she uses our kids as human shields!β
From there, Morgan said he wanted to be βseriousβ about the issue, prompting the comic to mock conservative commentatorΒ Ben Shapiro, who had appeared earlier on Morganβs show. At one point, Shapiro said the βonly solution to the Israel-Gaza war is that Israel should annex Gaza and kill as many people so that what is happening does not happen again.β
Sarcastically saying he agrees with Shapiro, who he snarked was βone of the smartest people who ever walked the earth,β Youssef said, βWe should kill as many sons of bitches as possibleβ to ensure the violence stops.
βSo my question to Ben Shapiro is, how many more sons of bitches do we need to kill so Ben Shapiro is happy?β Youssef rhetorically asked.
Morgan, meanwhile, insisted that Youssef was misrepresenting Shapiroβs position before airing a clip of The Daily Wire founder saying he believes in a βdisproportionate responseβ to terrorism.
βWhat is a proportionate response because it has been different from one tier to another? So, if you look at this graph, for example, this is the death of Israelis and Palestinians, and itβs changing from one year to year. Itβs fluctuating like crypto,β Youssef shot back, holding up a paper comparing lives lost in Palestine and Israel. βSo my question is today, what is the going rate today for human lives?β
Asked what he believes is an βappropriate wayβ for Israel to respond following the bloody terror attacks, Youssef continued to use black comedy to make his point.
βI would do exactly like Israel did: Kill as many people as possible since the world is letting me do it,β he said. βI mean, I can do it because I can.β
Youssef also ridiculed Shapiro and other conservatives for praising the Israeli Defense Forces for βwarningβ Palestinian civilians before bombing Gaza.
βThey said Israel is the only military force in the world that warns civilians before bombing them,β he snarked. βHow fucking cute! That is so nice of them because with this logic, if Russian troops started warning Ukrainians before bombing their houses, weβre cool with Putin, right?!β
The contentious discussion continued for 20 more minutes, with Youssef blaming propaganda thatΒ dehumanizesΒ Palestinians for theΒ recent murderΒ of a 6-year-old child. At one point, Youssef even compared Israel to the evil supervillain from the TV showΒ The Boys.
