Heh. They’re gonna be sorry! They (rightwing at-the-time-men) were the ones who legislated “no fault” divorce in the 1st place, because it was getting so embarrassing for men when the specific evidence of their bad behavior (a broad brush for brevity) became public record in courts. Also, I put no fault in quotes because current laws do still require that evidence be presented by the petitioner; it just doesn’t have to be huge and litigated and decided if it is a good enough reason to dissolve a marriage, then spelled out in the public record. But you still have to tell why you need a divorce, and that’s still in the record.

Next, since rightwingers who want this stuff aren’t doing anything about the solid fact that at least 2 incomes are required for couples/families to even subsist in the US, people can find lawyers and detectives-many of whom are in the business of helping people in bad situations-because people can’t be kept at home barefoot, black-eyed, and pregnant if they have to go to work, thereby providing required evidence that much earlier and faster. People around them can see much of the abuse, including infidelity and the abuse that comes with that. This will be part of the public record of divorces, specifically, so men will be embarrassed, even arrested! again. Then, we’ll see lobbying to get back to what they call “no fault” divorces; so, whatever, guys.

I’m aware there are people who still cannot afford to escape a bad marriage, and they’re also not aware of the resources that do exist to assist in that. But, these guys who whine about “no fault” divorces whine because it gives people some power to escape bad situations. These are likely among the guys who would be the abusers if they manage to marry someone. IMO. And I know that’s sexist, I apologize for that, but there it is, still.
