    1. It is all for show. I will say that a veto is unlikely to be overridden as to this particular item; that’s happened before here when it’s come to actual care of living humans. They can override, but they won’t get the votes on this one.

They’re doing this so they can ignore their actual business, most of which is the budget. They are the party of no, so likely they’ll try to pass a bathroom law again, or maybe try to make it legal for them to sell the turnpike, then come in for overtime on a special session to get the budget done. Yes, they are paid for overtime, and also per diem travel, housing, and meals if necessary. It’s a rare session that doesn’t go over here in the great state of KS. sigh

      1. Hi Ali. Seems like KS needs a political system overhaul. But what did you think of the message that republicans, and the right in general doesn’t care what the majority want and they as a minority, will push their agenda to rule over the majority? What about them totally ignoring the new constitution addition just because they don’t like it? Hugs. Scottie

        1. Oh, that’s exactly correct. With the qualification that there are moderate Republican voters who elect the less-crazy Republicans, and who will not vote for RWNJs, ever (they elect Sharice Davids to the US leg, as an example.) That’s why some vetoes will not be overturned, including this one upcoming if they pass their law. There are also some younger legislators this time around, and they won’t override this veto, because they themselves or their immediate families may need to access health care that is guaranteed by our state constitution, both in writing and by affirming election.

Now Republicans like the ones mentioned, my own state rep (not mentioned, but he’s one) included, do not care what people want. If one of his donors (the only ones he’ll let talk) challenges him on something sensible like Medicaid expansion, he just hushes them with a comment that he’s never seen a plan for that that will actually work, so there’s no sense discussing that. Libertyfreedomandallthatrot, then he has to leave for the next forum.

An overhaul would be excellent, but it’s so hard. No one can afford to run against Republicans, who are primarily funded by organizations like ALEC, Americans for Prosperity, etc., et al. We’ve talked about this before here, how center-left and left voters are mostly broke, since we’re the ones paying not only for ourselves, but also for those with enough money that they don’t have to pay taxes. It’s a long slog, three steps forward, 1 step back, always.
