Good one!

  1. Just gonna say it. I’m not comfortable mocking a man because it’s possible he has chosen to use makeup. I assume the reasons for my discomfort on that topic are self-evident to you Ali, but for anyone else …

As a trans woman, who started my journey many years ago by wearing makeup (and nearly clear nail polish), I find such “humor” offensive. It will have the (almost certainly unintended) consequence of driving others like myself even deeper into the closet.

Please don’t take this as judgmental. It’s meant only to help the majority see through the eyes of a very tiny minority.

    1. Yes, I am aware, and my apologies. Really. I’d missed the bit about Maybelline in the caption of the photo of Sen. Vance; I’d just clicked on through on Vladamir Futon to see the debunked but funny couch joke.

Again, I am sorry about the makeup reference, I totally missed it. I try to not shame people about things that don’t matter, too. I think I tolerate it when friends do it with Sen. Vance because of the awful things he’s said about trans people, and his insults to drag performers.

But I will remember to check more carefully before posting like this again! And I’m glad you spoke up-you may be speaking for more readers than we know about, and that will help us stay welcoming to them. My apologies to them, as well.

  2. Well, it’s a thing I should have been more conscious of, and now I will. I hope! I’ll try hard. It’s the same as with any body shaming or such. Better to not do it. There are other things to call out besides things people cannot help.
