CONCORD, N.H. —

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office said it’s looking into an incident outside of a café in Concord.

Cell phone video shows a group of people protesting outside of the Teatotaller on Sunday while the café was hosting its monthly drag story hour event.

“All we were doing was promoting literacy and providing kids with cute, good stories,” drag queen Juicy Garland said.

In the videos, people are yelling, banging on the windows and doing Nazi salutes while holding a sign that says, “defend white communities,” all while a drag performer was inside reading books to families.

“I’m sure that was a lot more scary than anything else for the children that were here,” Liam Magan, Teatotaller general manager, said.

This Teatotaller location just opened up a year ago, and they started hosting these events in November.

But the owner said this isn’t the first time they’ve gotten pushback.

“It’s not the first time. It’s not the second time. It’s not the third time,” said Emmett Soldati, owner of Teatotaller. “But the truth is that we have been doing this kind of programming basically since we have existed in the state of New Hampshire, which is over a decade. And at the end of the day, we are going to continue doing programming that the community loves.”

The attorney general’s office has identified the protesters as members of NSC-131, which the Anti-Defamation League calls a neo-Nazi group, and said its civil rights unit is looking into the incident.

Juicy Garland, the drag queen who was reading at Sunday’s event, said this reaction won’t stop her from doing what she loves.

“I will be back and we will continue to do these,” Juicy Garland said. “If anything, I’m only more encouraged by these people to continue doing what we do.”

Teatotaller management told News 9 that safety is their main priority and that they hope this type of reaction won’t stop people from wanting to come here.

Management said they’re not letting protesters stop them from hosting more events like this in the future because they say there’s a need for more inclusive spaces.

Police said no arrests were made on Sunday.

These people claim that a person in a costume reading to kids is harmful to the kids, yet think screaming white supremacist Nazi gang thugs is fine for the kids.  It terrifies them, which is the point.  Cause the kids and parents so much fear they won’t go to these events.  As I posted about this the other day, the police were there but did not interfere with the acts of intimidation and terrorism on the part of the Nazis.   Hugs

More than a dozen masked men clad in black chanted Nazi salutes as they stood outside Teatotaller cafe Sunday on Main Street. Meanwhile, drag Queen Juicy Garland read story books to a small group of children and parents upstairs, seemingly unfazed.  

The men, who did not give their names, identified themselves as members of the neo-Nazi group NSC-131 and held a banner declaring, “Defend White Communities.”

Teatotaller describes itself as “an oasis of queer, hipster, tea, coffee, and pastry goodness.” The cafe opened in June of 2022 and is a beacon of color and inclusivity.

Its bright pink door and “you are loved” pride flag are hard to miss in downtown Concord, but on Sunday they were partially blocked by members of NSC-131 (Nationalist Social Club), a neo-Nazi group with chapters throughout New England. The group “seeks to form an underground network of white men who are willing to fight against their perceived enemies through localized direct actions,” according to the Anti-Defamation League’s website. 

“Off our streets!” NSC-131 members shouted repeatedly, facing the glass windows of the cafe. Police at the scene said it was unclear whether or not they were armed. No arrests were made. 

In addition to police, community volunteers wearing neon yellow “peacekeeper” vests encouraged offended onlookers to disengage.

Upstairs at Teatotaller, Juicy Garland read “Florence and Her Fantastic Family Tree”by Judy Gilliam to the group who went for Sunday reading hour. One family of three listened to the story, wearing matching shirts that said “proud of my family.”

The men wearing hats with the number 131, said story hour was intended to “groom” young children, and continually shouted slurs at people walking in and out of the cafe.

The protesters did not stop Teatotaller from continuing with their business as usual, despite protestors’ strong, deep chants and visible presence on the sidewalk.

One man, who identified himself as Ted, walked back and forth between the cafe tables and the protesters. He said he was there because he heard about the protest and wanted to protect the children inside Teatotaller.

Teatotaller doesn’t get this reaction every time they host a Sunday story hour, but in November it was swarmed by the Proud Boys while the same guest, Juicy Garland, read stories.

Teatotaller issued a blanket statement in response to events outside the cafe:

“Only recently has there emerged a small band of self-identified white supremacists who have disrupted these events to gain clout. They have not and will not deter us from continuing to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all Granite Staters to be proud of and recognize they belong here.”

Inside its vibrant exterior, the cashier served coffee and vegan treats to customers and chanted along with the protesters in jest, humming, “off our streets,” while he swiped a credit card.

State Senator Dan Laughlins defamation lawsuit against “The Erie Reader” opened him up to discovery, and ended up revealing a series of emails pertaining to Trump’s pressure campaign on Pennsylvania Republicans to illegally overthrow the election in 2020.

High level communications between far-right gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, and member of Trump legal team Christina Cobb, is part of the information that’s been released. In those emails, Mastriano expressed his concern that Trump’s proposal to overturn the election was “illegal.”

The emails also detail how Trump PERSONALLY called Mastriano and pressured him to overturn the election, and even furnished false documents about Dominion Voting Systems “rigging the election against Biden” in an effort to do so.

“We’re not saying a word on this crap,” Laughlin said in an email after he got word of the plan, worried about his own parties attempt to unlawfully overturn the election. It seems like the emails implicate Trump in yet another crime. Unreal.

Sarah Bonner, a teacher at Heyworth Middle School in Illinois, held a “book tasting” for her students. During the tasting, she offered students a variety of books to choose from, including “This Book Is Gay” by Juno Dawson. The book is a nonfiction guide to LGBTQ+ identities and experiences.

Some parents of Bonner’s students were upset that she had offered the book, and they filed a police report against her, alleging child endangerment. The police investigated the report, but they ultimately decided not to press charges.

Bonner has defended her decision to offer the book, saying that she wanted to provide her students with a diverse range of reading material. She has also said that she believes that “This Book Is Gay” is an important book for young people to read, as it can help them to understand and celebrate their own identities.

Conservative pundit Matt Walsh reacted to this news story, and said that “…according to this groomer teacher the only way to treat the quote unquote LGBT Community equally is to sexualize and groom children.”

As a liberal, I am constantly accused of being intolerant for not accepting someone’s hateful or repressive convictions.
It’s as if “tolerance” has come to mean accepting and respecting someone else’s views, regardless of what they are or who they affect.
And that’s wrong.

Tolerance: a fair, objective and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc.,. Differ from one’s own;
freedom from bigotry

Being open-minded does not mean arbitrarily respecting everyone and accepting everything.
There are things that no one should tolerate, such as bigotry, suppression of liberty, denial of equal rights, and abusive restrictions.

I try to preach and practice tolerance, but I do not have to tolerate anyone’s intolerance.

I posted this last year when it first came out.  I want to repost it.   The message at the end is so vital and important to what is happening today.  If you are not willing to listen to Beau and you should, he relates the tale that 30 years ago he was dating a girl who it turned out her father was a die hard racist bigot.   The girl was mortified by this.   The point that Beau makes at the end of the story is that just as the people who protested and railed against the mixing of the blacks and whites back then are thought of as weird stupid bigots the people doing this to the LGBTQ+ people today will be thought of in the same way.   Of course Beau is more generous than I am, if these bigots manage to make the US the Christian nationalist theocracy they want then no one will be free to look back badly on them, look at Iran, the Taliban in Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia among other religious countries that are ruled by church doctrines instead of secular laws acknowledging advancements in understanding of all things since their holy books were written.   Hugs

Again, it is driven by fundamentalist religious people and their demand to have everyone live by their church / religious doctrines.  The right claims that social acceptance and tolerance of people who are different from them, the LGBTQ+, is indoctrination.   But teaching kids to stomp on a symbol of another group, teaching kids to yell insults to kids different from them, teaching kids to hate is somehow not indoctrination but good parenting to these bigots.   Being kind and respectful of a kid’s feelings and respecting their desire to be addressed by a preferred name or pronouns is abuse, but including your kids in a violent shouting hate shouting when they might be either soon feeling or are feeling that they are different is again good parenting.   These people want to close off young minds and deny young people the right to develop into more than clones of their parents.  The pro-LGBTQ+ supporters showed up in great numbers and that is what we need in the US also.

One last point.   These people scream leave our kids alone, but they are the ones attacking other peoples children.   These peopel demand the right to not only teach hate to their children but to also they demand the right to teach that same hate to every other child regardless of those kids parents wishes.   They demand parental rights not only for their children but yours as well, removing your parental rights over your own child.   Leave our kids alone should be the slogan of the LGBTQ+ parents.   These haters are terrorizing the LGBTQ+ kids and their teacher supporters in the schools, yet they claim others are indoctrinating or grooming kids.  Hugs

Protests against “gender ideology” in Canada’s capital city Friday brought far-right conservative Christians and Muslims together to attack Ottawa’s local school board for supporting LGBTQ+ students.

The unusual alliance was met by an equal or greater number of counter-protesters defending the rights of LGBTQ+ kids and denouncing “transphobic, fascist ideology.”

A new directive by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board inspired the demonstration, organized by notorious far-right Canadian provocateur Chris Elston, aka Billboard Chris.

The all-staff notice advised the use of they/them pronouns for students until their preferred pronouns were expressed.

Video from the demonstration shows Muslim women and others encouraging young children to stomp and dance on progress Pride flags strewn on the ground and clapping with joy.

The clip shows an older white man holding a large Canadian flag leaning down to shake one kid’s hand in solidarity.

“Right on, boys!” he declares, beaming.

Shouts of “Leave our kids alone!” were heard up and down the street where the protest took place, home to two high schools and a primary school.

“This is going to horrify Justin Trudeau,” posted Keean Bexte, with the far-right media site The Counter Signal. “All of these proponents of childhood mastectomies and penectomies are officially on notice. The minority communities that have propped up your governments have finally had enough.”

It is very rare for transmasculine teens to get mastectomies before the age of 18 and genital surgery is not performed on trans minors.

Police announced they made five arrests at the demonstration, without providing details. Scattered acts of violence were reported.

While a heat wave, fires, and smoke have enveloped the region since the beginning of June, Bexte laid recent high absentee rates at Ottawa schools at the feet of the school board and their nonbinary naming advisory, claiming parents were pulling their kids out in “silent protest” of Pride Month.

Hundreds showed up to counter the right-wing alliance.

The counter-protest “fills my heart,” said Emily Quail, an organizer and mom of a child at one of the nearby schools.

“The only way to correctly counter fascism is by showing up like this on the street and telling them we outnumber them,” she told The Canadian Press.

“We will not let them spread their transphobic, fascist ideology anywhere, here or anywhere else, and that starts with community strength and that’s what I’m really proud to see today.”

The Ottawa area school board condemned Elston for planning the protest in front of schools.

“It really raises doubts about a group that, I think it goes without saying, but it’s a group that is literally targeting children,” said Alex Silas, a school district official.

In 2020, Elston, a Vancouver insurance agent, paid for a billboard declaring, “I ❤️ JK Rowling”, and then wore the message on a sandwich board at protests after it was denounced as “hateful expression” and taken down.

The hate is rising.   There was a series of kids books I read as a child called The Dark is Rising, with each book having an individual title.  The story is basically a good vs bad story built loosely around the King Arthur Merlin myths.  I see that same evil hate that the book showed rising doing so today.  But the evil devil that the good beings are fighting is the rising hate and threats of violence by the religious conservative right against the LGBTQ+ in the hope of bring back a dictatorship of a strict society based on their church doctrines.  

One note on the story.  He says he got punched in the back and the face.  The story says that the video shows he got hit by his bullhorn where the cut is.   But it is possible someone hit or pushed the bullhorn hard enough to cut the skin and feel like being punched.    Hugs

On Friday, a protest and counter-demonstration on a leafy street in Ottawa — normally home to students making their way to and from three schools in the area — was instead the site of hateful rhetoric and violence in the Canadian capital.

A local MP became the face of the melee, when he was “rabbit-punched” at the protest — he said he’d do it all over again to keep trans and queer kids safe.

“I’ll take a punch for queer and trans youth any day,” said Joel Harden, a member of Ontario’s provincial Parliament with the New Democratic Party (NDP).

The demonstration was organized by far-right Canadian provocateur Billboard Chris to protest a local school board advising staff to use they/them pronouns for students who had yet to share their personal pronouns.

Muslim parents joined a mostly White crowd denouncing the advisory notice. Some were seen encouraging their kids to violently stomp on progress Pride flags littering the street.

Harden, elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario five years ago, has been a longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ issues, and attended the counter-protest in solidarity with LGBTQ+ youth and their parents.

The MPP recounted that during the protest, he noticed a woman berating another individual, with her hands in the person’s hair. He says he rushed over to break up the altercation.

“I felt a punch in the back and then a rabbit-punch to the face,” Harden recalled for Yahoo Canada. “It happened in a split-second.”

The day before the protest, the legislator warned in a speech to members of Parliament of the threat to queer and trans youth as the country celebrates Pride Month.

“As incidents of hate against the 2SLGBTQIA are rising, we have a message for queer and trans youth in #OttawaCentre and everywhere in this province,” Harden posted to Twitter afterward. “We see you, love you, value you, and we will not continue to let you be threatened by hate or bigotry.”

Harden says the far-right is weaponizing social media, calling it a “vitriolic cesspool,” and manipulating parents’ instincts to protect their kids in order to further conservatives’ own anti-LGBTQ+ agenda.

“I am a father. What measures I wouldn’t go to in an effort to protect my own children? But what this movement is doing is convincing individuals that to protect your children, you have to hate trans and queer people,” he says.

Those supporting the rights of LGBTQ+ youth “are not your enemy,” he adds.

“History and present day has taught me that there are some of us who are willing to put the work in to de-program hatred, and I’m down for that,” said Harden. “If people want to come to my office and throw rotten tomatoes at me, come over.”

Fellow lawmakers and constituents alike expressed solidarity with Harden.

“My local MPP @JoelHardenONDP just got punched in the face at a counter rally, during an anti-trans protest,” posted Kathryn LeBlanc. “Queer and trans people are sounding the alarm on rising hate. It’s time to come together, mobilize, and build solidarity on this issue.”

While conservative Muslims joined far-right Canadians in protest, Sikh pol and federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh had Harden’s back.

“I’m proud of you @JoelHardenONDP,” posted Singh. “Queer and Trans people — and kids — are being targeted by angry and hateful extremists. Governments must step up to protect the queer and trans community.”

LGBTQ support among beer brands is still widespread

All US leading light beer brands have a history of supporting LGBTQ rights, often in the form of sponsorship to pride events. Constellation Brands partners with Stonewall Sports, for instance, an organization promoting LGBTQ representation in sports. It was also listed as a top place to work for LGBTQ people several times over the years, and most recently in 2022, scoring 100/100 in workforce protection, inclusive benefits, and inclusive culture, in the Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Index.

Similarly, Molson Coors has sponsored several pride events, and so has Budweiser, also an AB InBev brand. Bud Light is far from being the only ally among beers—in fact, its handling of the Mulvaney boycott drove criticism for not being explicit in its support of the actress or the trans community.

Quartz reports:

Modelo Especial, a Mexican beer, is now officially America’s favorite. The beverage, marketed by Constellation Brands, was the top-selling beer for May, with 8.6% of all beer sales in the US, overtaking the long-time market leader Bud Light, an Anheuser-Busch (AB InBev) brand.

But if anti-LGBTQ activists think they were successful in making their point, they may be sorry to learn Constellation Brands has shown its support for LGBTQ rights even more than AB InBev. And so has Molson Coors, the maker of Coors Light, and Miller Lite.

My dogs that love gravy!   Is this where we are as humans, in politics where 9-year-old children are targeted to prove a political / religious point?  The two articles miss some important points about this incident. 

This child was not in puberty, it wouldn’t matter if she was a boy or girl or trans as at this age most children are the same in development.   No hormones have kicked in to change them either way.   It is only a non-scientific religious view that says that even from birth there is a huge difference between male and female children.  

Also why did the man and the woman with him wait until just as the girl was to do her event?  “”She went to step up to compete for the grade four shot-put final, and right before she went to throw, a grandfather of a student said, ‘Hey, this is supposed to be a girls’ event, and why are you letting boys compete.'”   If the grandfather had an issue with a student participating, shouldn’t he have raised it earlier?   They say he is a grandfather of a student, was he trying to throw the girl off her game so his own grandchild could have a better shot?  

“This has destroyed our beautiful daughter’s confidence, and she was inconsolably crying during this whole event and continued once it was over and we were leaving. Not to mention, she was unable to concentrate on her track and field finals and the shot-put throw for which she had qualified,” Kari said.

But another thing both articles miss is the open bigotry against the child’s parents, who were a same-sex couple.     Have we devolved so far in to the depth of inhumanity that hatred of the legal way two people live and raise their child makes the child fair game for attacks?   Is that decent or moral.   They went after the child due to the child having two mommies instead of the religiously preferred mom and dad.  “Starr said the man’s wife then started calling her “a genital mutilator, a groomer, and a pedophile.””    So they already knew about the girl and her family, they knew she had same sex parents.  

So this is what the right wing wants, young children attacked with same sex parents too afraid to be open and in the public life of their child.  It is really not just disrespect or deplorable actions on by bigots, it is active terrorism.   The goal was clear and they accomplished it.  They caused a 9 year old child to be afraid, to be unable to do their best, reduced to tears at the hate of people they did not even know.   How anyone can see this and not be as angry as I am is beyond me.  How anyone can justify these actions is something I don’t understand.   But the right does justify it, they glory in it, to them this is a win.  The Matt Walsh types won’t see their fingerprints on this child’s tears, nor the worry and fear of the parents for the safety along with ability of their child to be confident in themselves.  Instead they relish the ability to destroy a family that is different from their demanded model, and they enjoy the fear they create as they think it makes them powerful and correct.   Sick bastards!    Hugs

Last thing.  From the comments I read I followed the news articles found on this asshole.   He is an asshole.  He is rather wealthy and felt no problem with over charging workers / companies coming to fix problems in the areas of his motel.  He seems to be a typical entitled white fundamentalist asshole who thinks god shines only on him and that gives him the right to gouge and cause grief to others.  He is always right and his god agrees he is always right.   My gods has the prosperity gospel religion spread so wide that the teachings of the one in the bible itself no longer matters?    Hugs

Two Kelowna moms are speaking out after their 9-year-old daughter was verbally assaulted at a track and field event on Thursday at Kelowna’s Apple Bowl. The mothers, who choose not to identify their daughter, say she was competing in a shot-put event when a grandfather of one of the other participants started yelling at her.

“She went to step up to compete for the grade four shot-put final, and right before she went to throw, a grandfather of a student said, ‘Hey, this is supposed to be a girls’ event, and why are you letting boys compete.’ My daughter is cisgender, born female, uses she/her pronouns. She has a pixie haircut,” said mom Heidi Star.

Star says the man then carried on to demand certification to prove that her daughter was born female. Star said the man’s wife then started calling her “a genital mutilator, a groomer, and a pedophile.”
