Texas Woman In Legal Peril For Out-Of-State Abortion

A bunch of fundamentalist theocracy states have started having police and even private citizens patrolling to spot pregnant women on roads connected to the border.  They take the information of the car or woman, and check when she comes back if she is still visibly pregnant.  If not, an investigation can be initiated.  Right now this is not getting a lot of publicity and the theocratic states want to keep it that way.  Let the public know that these people see the Handmaids Tale as a how to guide book.   Hugs.  Scottie

The Washington Post reports:

As soon as Collin Davis found out his ex-partner was planning to travel to Colorado to have an abortion in late February, the Texas man retained a high-powered antiabortion attorney — who court records show immediately issued a legal threat.

Now, Davis has disclosed his former partner’s abortion to a state district court in Texas, asking for the power to investigate what his lawyer characterizes as potentially illegal activity in a state where almost all abortions are banned.

Davis’s petition was filed under Texas’s Rule 202 by Jonathan Mitchell, a prominent antiabortion attorney known for devising new and aggressive legal strategies to crack down on abortion.

Mitchell appeared here in 2022 for his lawsuit seeking to block insurance coverage for PrEP medications because they “encourage homosexual behavior.”

Also in 2022, Mitchell filed six separate lawsuits seeking to dismantle LGBTQ rights, including the Supreme Court’s Obergefell ruling.

If they’re going to claim that a fetus counts as a citizen of Missouri, then they logically need to stop issuing birth certificates and start issuing conception certificates. At least historically — especially since a child was not guaranteed to survive birth — a baby was only considered a citizen once it was born.

Claiming that a fetus somehow counts as a citizen poses an additional legal problem in the sense that it potentially opens the door to a pregnant woman potentially being charged with manslaughter for miscarrying even though her miscarriage wouldn’t necessarily have anything to do.with what she did or failed to do.

If you go to the link, you will see one state representative claimed he started having relations with his wife when they were 16 and they did not need input from anyone else.   He then claims that he considers they were married from that point, even though they did not get legally married until they were adults.   Which says a lot of about his mind set.  Seriously, nothing in the bill prohibits what he and his girlfriend did.  They had teenage sex.  They did not get married then.  The bill says girls can not be forced to get married if they are minors.  Period.  Because if there were loopholes people who want an as the article says one representative described minor girls as a ripe, fertile age and may have a pregnancy and a baby involved.   He sees girls / women as breeding stock.  Just something to carry the man’s issue to term.  Hugs.  Scottie

The New Hampshire Bulletin reports:

The New Hampshire House passed a bill Thursday raising the legal age of marriage to 18, sending the legislation to Gov. Chris Sununu’s desk after years of advocacy. Senate Bill 359, which passed 192-174, states that “no person below the age of 18 years shall be capable of contracting a valid marriage, and all marriages contracted by such persons shall be null and void.” Under present law, that age is 16.

Rep. Jess Edwards argued that taking away the possibility of marriage could lead more 16- and 17-year-olds to abortion. “If we continually restrict the freedom of marriage as a legitimate social option, when we do this to people who are a ripe, fertile age and may have a pregnancy and a baby involved, are we not in fact making abortion a much more desirable alternative, when marriage might be the right solution for some freedom-loving couples?” he said.

Petra, Not Of This World

Recent comments on my repost of Ten Bears preachers sermon where he stresses that real Christians don’t do Worldly politics but prepare for heaven, reminded me of my few years as a recovering battered teen in the SDA church.  They had approved books and music, I loved one of the soft rock bands called Petra.  The song that Ten Bears reminded me of is below.  I really felt like that song, that I was not of this world.   Even as an atheist I still enjoy that song.  I would think modern Christians would embrace it.  Hugs.  Scottie

I watched clips of this sermon, but I never really heard it in the more full state like this short but longer version.  I am not religious, even though I do have a personal code of conduct, so I would hope one of the religious people that come here might comment on what he is saying.   Is he correct?  That seemed the way it was when I was a kid going to the SDA church.  I once asked my benefactor if he wanted prayer in school, yes it was a controversy back then also with fundamentalist religious people trying to force their views on your child, he surprised me with saying no, he did not want prayers in school.   He followed it up with.  We have our beliefs, and I wouldn’t want someone who believed differently than we do to lead a prayer my children would be forced to pray with.  They took prayer seriously.  So I ask, what do you think?  Hugs.  Scottie
