Christ may have said “Stay awake,” but he certainly did not say, “Be woke.” Woke has nothing to do with religion. Wherever they got it from (possibly an old slave expression) Republicans tried to make it into a four-letter swear word. But we who are woke made it something to be proud of! Woke is the state of being open to making this world into a better place for all living beings, not those who hate spiritual progress and and have no compssion for others.
So, Donny my lad, thanks for giving us a great rallying cry. “We Are Woke!” and we are damn proud of it.
Your speaker asked what the opposite of “woke” is? To say it is asleep points in the right direction, but really it is “against” compassion and co-operation. It is the desire not change, but to regress to the days when white men believed they were superior to everyone and anything else.
