For Science!

Scottie likes to post science, and I ran across this today from the Cosmos science newsletter. It’s unfortunate news about an extinction. https://cosmosmagazine.com/nature/plants/cactus-extinction-sea-level-rise/

Here’s a preview bit:

While the cactus still grows on a few scattered islands in the Caribbean, researchers warn that the loss of the local US population is a harbinger of what is to come if global warming  due to human activity is not reversed.

Finally, here’s one about an island run by women of color. Only women. https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/little-corn-island-women-run-sustainable-tourism

Here’s a bit. I’ll get the coloring down later, too.

With a population of just 800, Little Corn Island is a hidden gem in the Caribbean, and it holds an inspiring secret: Women keep it going. Hailing from diverse backgrounds and spanning different generations, these women are pioneering entrepreneurs who, through community initiatives and sheer determination, have transformed Little Corn Island into a model of sustainable, women-and-family-led tourism and way of life.

Little Corn Island has a long history that begins with the Kutra, native people who were wiped out by Indigenous Miskitos of the Nicaraguan mainland. Around 1700, British and Scottish colonizers established plantations with the labor of enslaved Afro-Indigenous people from Jamaica. After nearly 200 years of British rule, the islands formally became part of Nicaragua in With a population of just 800, Little Corn Island is a hidden gem in the Caribbean, and it holds an inspiring secret: Women keep it going. That’s all. I’m gonna concentrate on looking around here a little bit, so I’ll be better acquainted with things tomorrow.

I’ve found a few things, so here are links and snippets. Enjoy, learn and share what you know, discuss, whatever. Schmooze if you wanna-

I’ve got a few Substack tabs open, thinking I want to share them. This first one is about real life surrounding a fiction serial called “The Road To Splitsville.” You can find that from this page, too. Authors have found a trend among rightwingers: https://open.substack.com/pub/thesplit/p/the-road-to-splitsville-for-christs?r=1pk2l&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I’m putting the link to the Hopium Substack. Well, for today’s. I just think it’d be good for everyone to read it as often as they can. Full of info and how things are not as bad as it may feel that they are: https://www.hopiumchronicles.com/p/president-bidens-nato-speech-making?r=1pk2l&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

This, I just find to be gripping reading. Apropos of everything yet nothing. https://open.substack.com/pub/andrewbeaton/p/hard-and-soft-landings?r=1pk2l&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

I don’t know how this is going to turn out; I thought I had inputting hyperlinks, but I think I didn’t, after all. I’ll get it, but read this stuff anyway.
