Earthquake

A swarm of more than 40 earthquakes in 24 hours is causing a buzz in the northwest US https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/08/weather/earthquake-swarm-oregon/index.html

  1. Being an Oregon resident (as you know), such news reports are at least somewhat unnerving. However, sources over the years have indicated these “small” quakes are rarely the harbinger of something BIG! And even the guy from the University of Washington indicated this swarm is likely not the case.

Even so … it does bring the concern of something bigger to the forefront of one’s thinking. 😟

    1. Hello Nan. It does seem every area on the planet has its own natural threats. Where I live the ground doesn’t move unless it is to sink completely out from under you, but we have to watch out for hurricanes and the odd tornado. Hugs

  2. Only a problem for the coast, and Seattle. I did a Ted Talk before they were Ted Talks (Ten Talks, if you wish) about what will happen to Seattle when those plates slip. There’s actually a betting pool on whither it will leap into the air before collapsing in on itself or just collapse. Portland would probably get wet(ter), might shake a few old bricks loose, but the rest of the state will be fine. The coasts tho … note the plural. I’ve seen reproductions of accounts of what the resulting tsunami did to 1700 coastal Japan. Some of those stumps out in the bay are thirty feet tall.

    1. Hello Ten Bear. I admit I know nothing about this subject, except I fear for those that are possibly in danger. Thanks for the reassurance that the damage will mostly be contained in one area not state wide. I seen the tsunami that hit Japan in 2011. I have never seen such a thing. Hard to imagine water doing all that. Something interesting, while doing the roundup I caught a headline that governor DeathSantis called global warming a left liberal plot while he submitted 76 projects to the state Legislature to improve drainage, raise sea walls and take other steps to fight flooding across the state. The state would spend about $270 million, with local matches typically required. Hugs
