REPORT: Dems Fret Over Feinstein’s Failing Memory

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

When a California Democrat in Congress recently engaged in an extended conversation with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 88, they prepared for a rigorous policy discussion like those they’d had with her many times over the last 15 years. Instead, the lawmaker said, they had to reintroduce themselves to Feinstein multiple times during an interaction that lasted several hours.

Four U.S. senators, including three Democrats, as well as three former Feinstein staffers and the California Democrat told The Chronicle in recent interviews that her memory is rapidly deteriorating. They said it appears she can no longer fulfill her job duties without her staff doing much of the work required to represent the nearly 40 million people of California.

  1. Of course she will never admit her condition! She’s in the public eye and that would be like showing one’s private parts. Seriously. She MUST maintain her image.

Regrettably, she will undoubtedly remain in office until she is voted out, which won’t happen for another two years! I suppose all we can hope for is there are enough people in her inner circle that will work around her age-related flub-ups.

P.S. I read that no one has DIRECTLY raised these concerns with her. Maybe that’s what is needed — a private conversation with someone she respects.

    1. Hello Nan. From what I understand it is often that as the disease progresses the people who have it stop realizing they are having a problem or that they are the cause of the problems. I think when it became clear that she had to step down as leader of the Judicial committee she realized her memory and actions were an issue. I don’t know, I am not an expert. I just know that she is from a heavy Democratic state with a governor who will appoint a Democratic replacement, so we won’t lose control of the Senate. But the risk of her voting wrongly or of giving the Republicans a sound bite to play on Fox grows every day. They need to replace her. How does it look to the struggling public that already sees congress as do nothing self indulgent jerks when one of the people is well known or having a significant mental decline and gets to remain in office at an advanced age when most of them are retired.
