    1. Hello Michael. I just realized your comments were being sent to spam. I have no idea how that happened.
I have gone back through the spam filtered comments to try to manually approve all I could find. Sorry it happened; I value your comments.

  1. Scottie — OT — have you been looking at the email notifications of comments to your posts? The format has totally changed. No doubt another WP “improvement.”

      1. Hello Jeff. It sure does. If I had enough money to do it I would open a not for profit (after all if I had enough money to do this I wouldn’t need any more would I) really blogger friendly blogging platform just for the average blogger. None of this business stuff. All designed to make the amateur blogger have a fun and easy time. What do you think, want to be part of the design team?

    1. Hello Nan. Sorry but lately the Emails is the last thing I have been checking. I have been racing to do some posting and answer the comments from the bell thing before my back hurts too bad for me to sit again. I wish I could do them while laying down but so far I make too many mistakes that way. What has changed, I will go open the email program and take a look.

Oh crap, I opened, I looked, I hate it. I cannot understand what WordPress is doing? Was there a big outcry online about the email notifications style? They are changing so many things that don’t seem to be improvements just to do them. I still don’t see how the block editor was to save them money but it appears here to stay. The fact that when they changed the pricing they admitted they are moving away from being a blogger friendly company to a business web site company. And with businesses I guess once they put together a web site they don’t need to change everything each time, just a block or two? Maybe that is why they are doing it?

      1. WHO KNOWS why they are doing it! Except, more than likely, it boils down to $$$$ in some way or another. One thing I did notice, you can now “comment” in the email and it will show up on the blog. You may have noticed in one of your recent posts that you had a BUNCH of comments from several “non-regular” individuals … yet the “Comment” section itself was empty.

So far, the recent BLOG changes are for “New” customers, but I have a strong hunch that will change in the not-very-distant future. Yesterday I looked into the WIX set-up … just in case.

          1. Just from my brief look-see, it doesn’t look too bad. Of course, the worst part is not the Wix setup as much as it is the thought of having to abandon all that one has created on WordPress! Why oh why does this world have to revolve around $$$$$!!!!!

            1. Hello Nan. I ask myself that every time I need a medication or procedure. As you know I had to stop the shots into my spine because they doubled in price and I cannot afford it. I just told the pharmacy to hold on of my medications until next month because they are too expensive to get this month. I can make it if careful until next month. I wonder at those who have far more than they need for their comfort and enjoyment, who feel the need to take even more from those that do not have those advantages. I think there must be something wrong with them, yet they are growing in number and so many of the poor now support them as if in just a little while they also will be one of the privileged wealthy. I know people need hope, but I have seen this play out where I live. Older people that moved here in their 50’s, by the time they were in their 70’s are unable to afford to stay. We own our homes, but we rent the lot they sit on. Laws passed a decade ago make it illegal to move them on the roadways due to their age. Most of our homes are from the mid 1980’s. The local zoning now restricts a lot of improvement on our homes now to try to force them to be removed. You are only allowed to make a prorated cost of improvements over five years on a portion of the value of the home. So if the county values your home at $30,000 you may make only improvements of like $5,000 over five years. So if you put in a new updated kitchen it has to be under that amount to pull a permit and if you have something else go wrong you need to fix … tough shit. A new roof, better get a good deal and not pulled a permit in the last five years. They want these older homes gone so they can charge higher taxes on the new homes. We moved here in 2004, at the time it seemed like a great deal, the lot price was really low even if the homes were overvalued. Now the lot price is over $600 a month. When we bought this place the lot rent was a third of that. We are looking at what we seen others look at, being unable to keep up with the rise in lot rent. The thing is we were stupid. We could have bought a home locally. Yes we would have had a mortage, but it would have been fixed. The ground our homes sit on is worth more commercially than it is for residential. The last decade has seen several owners with each owner raising the rates substantial amounts. However compared to rents in the area we are still cheaper. This park used to be a senior only when we bought in. 55 and above, and as I was disabled that did not apply to me. For a long time I was the youngest person in the homeowner sections of the park. Now there are a lot of younger people moving in and even a few families even though we do not have much for them. But like James just moved back home. He is 30 years old. He works every hour he can get. But the cheapest rent he could find for himself was more than $1600 a month for a one bedroom. He had his apartment that was a two bedroom but that was going up to over $1800 for the new lease and to afford that before the rent went up he had to have two roommates. A two bedroom place with two roommates just to make it. I don’t know how anyone does it in Florida anymore, remember what the minimum wage is in this state. Yet the governor caters to wealthy people in wealthy enclaves like the villages. I know this is more information than you wanted. But the average person in Florida is in a horrible position, while the governor and his cronies are raking in millions in donations and contributions. DeathSantis just went to a $200,000 plate invite only dinner fund raiser. According to public records he has raised over 2 million since the beginning of the year for his 2024 presidential run. No wonder tRump is scared of him. Any way. It is good for us we have savings, there are so many people we know in such desperate places. A lady here in the park we have helped on and off, lost her husband last year. Her income dropped to less than half. She is 76 years old and now has an income of about $1400 a month. Remember lot rent is now over $600 a month. She has a leased car. Not much left over for her to live on. Her daughter has decided to move in with her. I can understand why. This is the US where billionaires are not allowed to be taxed yet Rick Scott, Republican, wants to pass a bill requiring Social Security recipients to pay taxes on that income, no matter how poor (but not the wealthy they don’t get their taxes raised) These are the people that killed the BBB that would have helped the people with things like capping drug prices, but they are now insisting that they need to raise taxes on people like us.

Sorry Nan. I know you did not ask for a rant. But sitting here tonight I am tired and in a lot of pain. I am thinking where did the country I know where when I got home from the military with just one job I bought a new home, a new truck, a used motorcycle, luxuries, and when Ron moved in with me, still with that same one income I bought a new car for him and a second used motorcycle. We still had money left over. Where did that go?

              1. This — But the average person in Florida is in a horrible position, — is true not only of Florida, but all throughout the country. And as you pointed out, those that are in some of the direst straits are simply BLIND to what’s going on around them. However … in their defense … I go back to my oft-repeated opinion: they simply don’t pay attention to what’s REALLY happening. And if they DO happen to listen or read, they tend to believe the propaganda.

I’m immensely thankful that (at least at this point in time) my personal living conditions are OK. But as we all know, things can change in the blink of an eye.

                1. Hello Nan. You raise a great point. Many people work in an environment where right wing propaganda is pushed or displayed constantly. For years here in Florida all doctors’ offices played Fox. Now the ones I go to have something non-political on them if they have TVs at all. Enough people finally complained. I remember one doctor’s office that put dividers down the middle of the waiting room with a TV at each end, one showing Fox and the other MSNBC. I like to sit so I could see each and laugh at the difference in the coverage.

So as you say some people don’t have a choice as the right wing media is forced on them at work and in public spaces. For many, especially kids, it is forced on them at home.

        1. Hello Nan. ??? Not really following you. Where did the extra comments show up, but not be in the post’s comments? That may have been what happened with Michael’s reblogs. When I seen them in the bell I went to the post and they were not there. Then I opened the spam folder and seen a bunch of his reblogs there. I manually approved them and when to the posts to check and they showed in the post. Is this something new I am going to have to do every day? How to stop it because that is a lot of extra steps I don’t have time for. It has been three weeks since I have played Halo for gravy’s sake.

          1. I don’t recall the post that I noticed this –unfortunately– but it was one that triggered a LOT of responses from people that don’t ordinarily comment on your blog. I assumed it was because these people are on your mailing list and responded via WP’s “new” email system rather than going to your blog and leaving a comment. I don’t know. I’m just guessing.

            Liked by 1 person

            1. Ah I think I am understanding now. You are saying that people can respond via email rather than on the post? But they always could do that. When I get an email notification on a comment or post it says to reply respond below this line or something like that. I am just sorry I am blanking on the post you mean but it might have been the one about the Ukrainian war that I got a few new commenters on.

              1. Yes, the “old system” allowed you to comment in the email, BUT I don’t think the comment showed up on the blog itself. It was simply a “reply” to the email and would only show up in one’s email box. I could be wrong since I never tried it.

Yes, it may have been that post. Since only the latest posts are listed on your blog, it’s impossible to go back and check.

                1. Hello Nan. You could be correct as I never tried it either. Are you saying you cannot go to older posts on the blog? If so that is a problem. I just changed themes so maybe that will help. I also added an archive and categories below the search box. I see the blog posts now keep scrolling down to see older and older posts. Hope all these changes make things better. Thanks for all the feedback. It helps me improve the blog

                2. Since only the newest (last four?) post titles are listed (and this is common), there is no way to go back to an OLDER post unless the reader happened to remember the TITLE of the post and could type it into the search box.

The ability to go back by MONTH is awkward because when I tried it, the entire post (!) was listed. There should be a way to just show the title — and the reader can select the one he wants to read. Also, instead of listing ALL the categories, why not use the method I have on my blog where it’s a drop-down menu?

Just some suggestions. And of course, since I’m not familiar with the newer themes, things that are possible on my “old” theme may no longer be available.

                3. Hello Nan. I turned on the constant scroll down feature so as you get to the bottom of the main page of posts it just loads up older posts and keeps going. As for the drop-down menu, if you find the widget tell me the name and I will add it. I added the three ones I could find. It is a side bar widget and of course WordPress uses block editor widgets now. But I am willing to add any you think will help if you can find it.

OT. Looks like I will be buying a new car. Spent the afternoon looking over the figures. We have about 24 to 30 grand of assets in the old car and the new one will cost about 46+ grand. So if they want the deal we can do it. Ron is torn, he wants the new car badly, but he hates the idea of another 4 or 6 years of payments. But payments are part of being poor. We are lucky we can do this, and their damaging the car is going to come in our favor I think. I used to love buying a new car, going back and forth over pricing, the research. I found this time I did not enjoy it. In fact I put it off until this weekend. I am getting old I think. Going to a hybrid will save us money overall. If it were not for Ron’s occasional runs up north, I would just go fully electric at this point. Ron thought I should get a truck or something I wanted as the last three vehicles have been for him. But to tell the truth Nan, the thrill of having a car all my own has faded. We still have the 2007 Toyota sienna XLE and other than showing its age it runs strong and is great to drive. I would rather have a few new computers than a new car. Anyway I just took some medications. My back has been bad all day. I talked to Ron, I may have to call the doctor Tuesday. Monday is the car issue. It has not let up since I did that soda stupidity. I went to bed for 3 hours today. Did help some. This morning I tried to get up starting about 4 AM, every time I sat up my back would hurt so bad I would lay back down. Finally I took some medication, waited for them to work and got up. I really messed up with that soda thing.

                4. If I remember correctly, the last update you provided on the car was that you still didn’t know anything for sure. And how you’re talking about getting a NEW car??? I feel like I’m missing something.

Sorry about the pain. I bet you won’t be carrying any more than one or two soda bottles at a time!!

                5. Hello Nan. Oh great dogs no I won’t be carrying anything heavy. In fact when Ron got home from grocery shopping today I went out and I wouldn’t even reach across the hatch trunk for the bags. I started to do so and my back screamed and Ron yelled and I stood up and stepped back. I carried two bags only and no soda or heavy items. I wouldn’t have been allowed if I was able to do so. James came out and got stuff even though he had been in bed. But the guys have me on strict watch and control. I am not sure if they don’t want to hear me bitch, see me fall, or if the yelps of pain is what has got them clamping down. But no, I am being incredibly careful right now. The pain is so bad I cannot breathe well sometimes.

To the car, I know this reply is late so let me know in a new comment what you want to know and I will reply. It is 9:15 here and I am really tired so going to bed. See what I mean when I say I never seem to get to everything I need to do? Night, hope you have a great night.

                6. Re: the blog stuff — I just looked at the “widget” option and the entire format has changed! DAMN! WP is sooo screwing things up! Anyway, the widget I used was simply called “Categories.” Don’t know how much that will help … considering. All I gotta’ say is I’m glad I’m satisfied with the layout of my blog because I SURE wouldn’t want to have to change it now!

                7. Hello Nan. I understand. I used to have a calendar one on my old blog that gave the day of the month of the year for people to pick. The category one is what I used but you said it was not what you were looking for. That is why I keep saying how frustrated I am over trying to get things right, not only do we have to work with new themes, but all the widgets are changed and now I seem locked into using the same block system they want you to use when making a post for setting up widgets on the side bar. I hate it because it used to be easy, but what can we do? I remember when I set up my first blog, I went like ten or twelve years without having to change anything. From the time I set it up until the block editor crap I never had to change anything. It just worked.

        2. Hello Nan. I went through the email this morning and opened a bunch that said Scottiesplaytime … There they were a bunch of comments mixed in. But there is no way to search them, and I would have to open each thing that starts with ScottiesPlaytime to see the comments that way. I don’t know what I am going to do it they don’t put the comments in the bell thing. One reason I went back to it from the .org blog was the way I had to do comments from that was time consuming and awkward. I had to go through the admin of the site and do them in a long list that included my own replies. I was missing a lot of them. This will be worse. Crap.
