  1. The entire event was a tragedy, but this comment in the article stood out to me above everything else — and reinforces my personal perspective: “Teen brains are still developing,” said Dr. Scott Hadland, chief of adolescent medicine at Mass General in Boston.

Of course the statement is made in reference to the article topic, but for me, it encompasses far more than that.

    1. Hello Nan. This boy is dead because of shame about sex. That is why he took his life, he was ashamed his parents and friends might see the nude pictures of him, and it hinted he jerked off that was recorded. This is the culture that has to be removed, the fear of nudity and the fear of people knowing you do something completely natural. I doubt there is a teen boy in the world that doesn’t do it. Maybe all girls do also. But our country is so regressive and puritan about sex that we think kids seeing a nude body will destroy them, so we let them watch extreme violent movies instead. It is worse with kids brought up in religious families. I have often spoken of the church boarding school I went to that one boy was so upset that other boys might see him nude or he see them he would only shower in the communal shower with his underwear on and at times when there was normally no one else showering.

The experts they mentioned in the article said the best things parents could do is talk to their kids about sex in non-shaming ways. But parents cannot do that, especially religious parents. That is why we need comprehensive sexual education in public / private schools. Even with the internet kids have a lot of questions. The situation is made worse because that boy clearly had access to internet and so had seen nudes and porn. If he only realized how many people just one year older than him were showing themselves on twitter and other places, he would have told that scammer go ahead post them. I don’t think that part bothered him so much. But it was his parents seeing them that terrified him. Maybe a girlfriend seeing them scared him also. But mostly it said he couldn’t stand the thought of his parents seeing them, and he couldn’t see a way out. We need to reduce that fear of the nude body and of people seeing it. Especially in young people trapped in a situation like this. But some kids are too scared to tell their parents they are gay, much less they jerked off on camera for what they thought was a girl or boy and now they are being scammed.

I posted of this once before. The church youth pastor that got boys as young as 11 but mostly middle teens to pose nude and give him nudes of themselves by posing as a girl. Then he would force them to give him videos of them doing more sexual stuff by threatening to show what he already had to their mothers. Some of the boys he would force to meet with him and have sex. These boys were straight and did not want to but felt doing that was better than their mother seeing them nude or doing masturbating.

But the right wants to take the country back to an even more regressive time. Hugs

    1. Hello Michael. This boy is dead of shame, body shame, sex shame. He couldn’t stand the thought of his parents seeing him nude and maybe a recording of him jerking off. The US has a regressive puritan view of nudity and sex. It is killing our children. But they don’t mind kids seeing as much violence and gore as possible. Hugs
