“The first weekend of June had a greater number of mass shooting deaths in the United States than the previous three-day weekend, which ended with Memorial Day.
The tally for weekend violence through Sunday night was at least 12 killed and at least 38 injured in mass shootings, defined by the Gun Violence Archive as an incident in which “four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter.”

“More than 4 in 10 Republicans think mass shootings are inevitable in a “free society,” according to a new poll by CBS News and YouGov.
The survey results came on the heels of a string of mass shootings across the country that have prompted Congress to once again consider legislation on gun control.
One of the questions in the poll asked respondents if they feel that mass shootings are “unfortunately something we have to accept as part of a free society” or “something we can prevent and stop if we really tried.”
In response, 44% of Republicans said mass shootings are inevitable “as part of a free society.” Meanwhile, 85% of Democrats and 73% of Independents said mass shootings are preventable “if we really tried.””

The shooters never act alone, Scottie. They have the full support of the GOP, the Christian Evangelicals, Putin, and every authoritarian and religious leader in the world, The GOP does not mean to win the hearts and minds of the American people. If they can win in 2022 and 2024, democracy and the Republic of the United States will end immediately. There are no lives in any number that is more important to them than their position of power.
The arbiters of morality have no morals. The Christians above all Christians could care less what their namesake taught. I think they honestly believe that they can kill off all the ‘others’ until only white males remain. They don’t realize that they would then start killing ‘each other.’
They aren’t just killing people; they are killing ideas and hope.

Hello Cagjr. Well said, I agree. The main point you made that Republicans no longer care to appeal to the voters because of their rigging the election systems is what makes this so scary. I think many people do not realize that Saddam Hussein’s religious group was the minority, yet he ruled so his faith had all the power and made the lives of the majority miserable. The Republicans crave power to force their ways on the people rather than do the bidding of the people. In a democracy the elected office holders do what the people want, but in the Republican view elected office holders get force the people to do their bidding. I never thought that I would see a Christian minority authoritarian anti-democracy political party take over in the US. After all I thought we had a government of the people for the people. But then we lost that and gained a permeant political ruling class that get into office and never leave. Hugs

So when folk go into voluntary lock-down and are no longer recreationally socialising and businesses start to fail? So when folk home-school their children because they feel it is the only safe way?
So when homes become armoured fortresses and folk feel a high tension going to work or shopping for essentials?

Hello Roger. I agree with you, as you often say the rabid radical right has no idea what a people at war with each other will be like. But we are like the frog in a pot of slowly heating water, we have not noticed that we have become a people afraid of crowds, afraid of going out, and we already treat our homes like they need full security. Where I live the worst crime is young teens going out in the wee hours of the night to walk through the development to check car doors and steal change / anything of value they find if the doors are not locked. In the summer we had a few bikes stolen a decade ago. So now everyone has security systems and cameras around their homes. Every door and window of our home has sensors on them along with cameras that show every side of our home and yards and over the doors. Mostly tripped by a stray cat and the occasional fat raccoon. And we are not alone, most homes around us have some type of alarm system and / or door cameras. Long ago everyone that got the upgraded packages on their cars got car alarms, ours sends alert messages to our phones. Due to the media constantly pushing fear and crime far too many people now think they need to carry a gun because they will be in a gunfire fight every couple of hours. As you say if people fear to shop, go out to eat, or even go to work, the US economy cannot survive. Hugs
