“The House voted 228-195 largely along party lines Thursday to pass legislation to codify the right to contraception nationwide, seeking to protect it from potential Supreme Court intervention.

The Right To Contraception Act, sponsored by Rep. Kathy Manning, D-N.C., would establish a right in federal law for individuals to obtain and use contraceptives. It would also affirm a right for health care providers to provide contraceptives and allow the Justice Department and entities harmed by contraception restrictions to seek enforcement of the right in court.

Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla., said the United States is facing “a perilous time, where an extremist Supreme Court and the GOP are rolling back our rights.””

  1. I don’t understand why this incredible vote isn’t getting more coverage. Republicans think they can hide behind the claim that contraception is a non-issue so that they don’t have to face the wrath of anti-choice people zeroing in on birth control methods. We can’t let them get away with this!

    1. Hello Annie. I agree. Rubio used the same non-issue phrase to claim that the vote to protect same sex marriage was a stunt. He said marriage equality was already allowed so why vote to protect it? Not one reporter reminded him so was a woman’s right to an abortion and look what happened there. We need to push that the republicans plan to hide what they want to do if they get power because they know how very unpopular their ideas are. McConnell was asked what the republicans plan to do if they take over the Senate and he was in charge again? He answered that he would answer the question after the republicans took over. He knew if they knew what the republicans plan to do, the people wouldn’t vote for republicans. On the right of adults to have contraception did you see what Matt Walsh said? If not he said if a woman has sex she should plan on having a baby, if not she shouldn’t do it at all. Matt Walsh asks women not to participate in the reproductive act if they don’t want to get pregnant. Walsh then states that humans are not beasts in the jungle, unable to control their behavior. If the republicans have their way women will need their husband’s permission to get birth control and then the pharmacy may not fill the prescription. If republicans have their way the country will return to a time when women have no rights not granted by the men in her life, she will stay home and be a dutiful wife or daughter. Semi slavery, the owner of their bodies belonging to the men that control them. We must never let that happen, ever. Hugs
