Alan Shore on Homosexuality

This is a clip from Boston Legal. Obviously I do not own any of the rights to Boston Legal, I simply own the DVD set to season 3. However, I believe it is both a tribute to the show and a good sales pitch towards purchasing a copy of this show to introduce herein a clip that demolishes the absurd religious views on homosexuality. In this clip, Alan Shore presents his case as to why the man he represents has been scammed out of $40k by a religious organization that intended to “cure” his SSAD (“same sex attraction disorder”, aka homosexuality). Brilliant and appropriate for this moment in time.

    1. Hello Frank. I hope you have been well. Yes, I loved the clip. Sadly it is as need now as it was in that time. Every time we move away from bigotry there are people desperately trying to drag us back to a past time when those different from the then accepted norm didn’t exist in public view. Even as I fight against it, it scares me as much as it did as a young gay guy walking towards a gay bar in a hateful town and then leaving the bar again knowing there were gangs of thugs waiting to attack us, mostly supported by the local cops. Hugs

  1. I own 3 box sets DH and the kid gave me for Christmas one year. I loved that show when it was on! I loved how “Justice Scalia” married Denny and Alan close to the end. And the human rights arguments were so well done, both in writing, and by James Spader’s performance. Thanks for bringing this back while making great points about human rights, Scottie.

    1. Hello Ali. Sadly I have never seen the show. Maybe I should look it up. Do you have an episode you think I should search for? Please see my response to Frank, right now I am feeling very down and unhappy that the same attacks done to me as a gay person done in my years in school then in my adult life as a gay working adult are now being pushed back on the LGBTQIA people now again in 2023. What happened to the progressive happy future we were promised. Somehow it got hijacked by the most religious hateful deceptive people. I am sad today. Hugs

      1. Well, several years back, I learned the word “backlash,” though it was in regard to feminism/equal rights. I think it’s all of a piece, from Pres. Obama being elected 2x, and all the progress that’s been made since FDR. It’s backlash. It is a natural occurrence, of course, but this backlash is unnatural in that it’s so awful and anti-human. I blame Trump for making it OK for bigots and their ilk to come out from under their rocks.

  2. Maybe start here? https://youtu.be/UlXKswKR4Gc?si=WcfpagoiDnvQF9C3 . It’s clips of “Alan Shore” being Alan Shore. Or, just start at the beginning, and go from there! I don’t know when you’ll have time to watch, but you’ll enjoy the show if you do. Your season 3 DVDs won’t ruin anything that comes before then, either, as each ep usually winds up at the end.
Well, except the ongoing professional and friendly relationship of Denny and Alan. That develops over time, especially as Denny’s Mad Cow gets worse. Dementia runs in my family (don’t be sorry!) and I intend to call if Mad Cow if I get it. I love that. And I can joke about my own if I want to! 😉 I will never joke about anyone else’s, though.
