Politics is never clean, nor simple.
During WWII three of the most unlikely partners FDR, Churchill and Stalin formed an alliance to defeat the The Axis. None of the men had clean hands (Stalin particular) but the options were far worse. It was a messy, dirty and bloody business business, ethics and compassion played no part.
Yes Biden’s comments have questionable. But
If folk think that for one instant not voting for Biden is going to save one Palestinian life, make one Palestinian family happy, make all the guns stop, then and I do not use these words lightly they are accomplices in the march of the Extreme Right in the USA and will be personally culpable for any subsequent harm done by such a regime to any minority in the USA.
No there is no easy solution. Yes, in a karmic way we will all carry some small measure of guilt by our actions. All we can do is seek out the least worst alternative and keep focused on the Big Picture. There were ample chance for years to have supported or affiliated with Jewish and Groups within Israel working for compromise and peace, and (redacted) little was done about. Now we are reap the anguish.
OK, I’m going to stop now

Hello Roger. I understand your point. I also understand and have written that Bibi has to be treated like tRump, he has to be public praised and stroked so that privately you can get him to do what you want. But Biden is not getting enough to keep publicly backing Israel. With that said, even Biden realizes Israel is going too far as he has pulled back his public support. The entire world is seeing what Israel is doing is wrong. They just bombed for the second day a place that was full of civilians / refugees. When asked about it, the Israeli defense official couldn’t even say what Hamas person they thought was there and that they even were there. The Israeli defense official simply did not care about the civilian Palestinian deaths, not at all. Wolf Blitzer kept asking him if they knew the civilians were there and if so why they did it, and the guy said the civilians should have left. He blew off their deaths as unimportant. The point is this is a war crime, flat out no argument. It is the same mind set as Hamas, just on the other side. They are willingly killing civilians with the hope of getting a bad guy. Roger if this was being done by a different country the world would respond to stop it. The truth is Israel simply wants that land and the Palestinians gone. Problem solved. They don’t see the people on the land as humans, just as Hamas doesn’t see the Jews as humans. But the point of the video was the youth vote came out in 2020 because they rejected the tRump bigotry and authoritarian hate. But now the person they supported seems to be OK with a genocide and the young don’t have history behind them to remember World War 2. They only know it is a hard truth you don’t support genocide and for them never again was meant for everyone. They won’t vote for Biden if he doesn’t make very clear he wants to fight for the victim here, which is the Palestinian people. Bibi was on the news, claiming the justification for what Israel is doing was the deaths of 1,400 Israelis. Well now over 9,000 Palestinian women and children have been killed, so now the bad guys in the story are Israel, not Hamas. You can not claim grief for 1,400 and yet say the deaths of 9,000 is fine, just the cost of doing business. Hugs. Scottie

You are quite right Scottie. You cannot claim that 1,400 civilian deaths justifies the killing of another 9,000 civilians. What we may be witnessing is two sides locked into a struggle to the literal death of one side’s culture over another and there are scenarios in which Israel can lose, although the defeat would be a very high price for the victors. There would then follow a battle between previous allies over the spoils, which is usual.
Sadly this war to a death is being played out against the backdrop of a struggle for the USA’s body politic. If Biden loses and it does not seem there is a likely other Democrat candidate, then that means a Republican sweep of Congress and the Whitehouse in which they beholden to their own fundamentalists will support Israel and willingly cast aside Ukraine to please Putin.
Then there will be two genocides a physical one in Palestine and a Social Cultural one in the USA as the Intolerant Right work hard to take away all that every minority has fought for over the decades.
This is the grim, fearful choice Scottie. A bitter circumstance of years of neglecting supporting the pro-peace factions in Israel and treating the extreme USA Right as a joke.
It has now come to this, when the bitter choices have to be made.
If Biden wins he will be under pressure to break with the current extremist fascist Israeli if a Republican gets in (let’s assume for one moment Trump does get jailed) there will be no such option.
The horrid fact Scottie my dear friend is that within the world of Geo-Politics and the options for your own State fearful choices have to be made.
And you have one of those now
A quiescent President who realises he will have to backtrack on a traditional response which is no longer working.
Or a heartless crew who care not a damn for human suffering and act like a Western Version of the Taliban.
Wretched, wretched, wretched situation. Like so many before it could have been avoided. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. When will we ever learn?
The last part few paragraphs were written with a screaming frustration in my head. I have read and in my years witnessed this sort of thing from afar, so many times. It is only out of great respect for you and the solid ethics you hold to that I felt the need to explain just what is before us all.
Scottie dear friend I am so very weary of it, and am not even involved in any decision making processes and yet somehow feel some minor measure of some responsibility as part of the World Community.
Take care Scottie, you and Ron. Take care.
Bless you both
Roger & Sheila

I so appreciate your comments, Roger. It pains me to read and hear about the many U.S. citizens who are backing Israel with seemingly NO thought about what Israel is doing to innocent individuals in their drive to “protect their land.” From my perspective (and I’ve stated this elsewhere), this is nothing short of a “Holy War” — the worst kind.

There is a Nan, a dread way that War pans out, for it rarely takes place in an isolation of two forces ‘squaring’ off against each other on battlefields remote from civilians. In addition there are inevitably outside influences in more than one form. To add to this is the form each conflict takes places.
This one because of its duration of over 100 years in which many outside players have played parts and the emotions generated has a high profile.
It is even more deadly in that both sides are locked into struggle which in the current perspective will not rest until one of the other is beaten down. Like the Ukrainian – Russian War (which has a longer history and at times a similar mindset) it holds the attention of the world.
And yet.
In Sudan; Myanmar (several times), Ethiopia and Eritrea, across a band of Africa known as the Sahel, of the Uyghur by the Chinese government and the Rohingya in Myanmar, similar losses of life have arisen in these past ten years. Although being farther away and in with less higher profile because one side could not effectively fight back. Some of them were in the media for a short while then faded away, but the death, injury, misery and ruination remained. (And those are the major ones- not the small ones or those which are dying down or simmering like in Syria and Libya)
And we on the outside either take sides or not much, if any notice.
Once War begins no one who starts it or escalates it gets to write the final chapters.
Some folk might use a comfort phrase about this reply they would accuse me of ‘whataboutism’ which is a cruel term that suggests one war is more important than another as if the folk in other wars don’t count, that much.
Or there again maybe they can only take so much perception of suffering and not imagine that there thousands and thousands of screams, wailing, dying in place after place after place.
This is a wretched time that truly tests the souls and hopes of folk.
Bless those who work in the worst of places to try and ease the sufferings.
Because it never, ever, ever seems to end.

So very, very true. Sadly, humans seem incapable of getting along with each other.

That is true Nan.

Hello Roger. I agree with you. I understand the importance of not letting republicans gain control over the government and we need to take what control they have managed to steal back from them. You see what they have done in a short time with the control of only one branch of congress. Mayhem, confusion, chaos, fear & hate casting. Nothing about governing. Their proposal for Israel aid was a cover for slashing the IRS, costing the US more in lost tax revenue than the aid to Israel itself. The party of deficit reduction wants to add a huge amount more to the deficit to please the wealthy.
You are in a position with younger family to know far better than I, but my worry is that the youth vote in the US doesn’t agree with the idea of holding your nose and voting for the best person even if they are not fully what you want. I don’t think the youth voters have the understanding of nuance and shades of gray that are needed right now. From what I am reading / watching, they see the world in more moral absolutes. That scares me, as they could just not vote and that would give the authoritarian fascist control over the country. Then we would have a theocracy with our own moral police and Christian Taliban. The handmaid’s tale would be a reality instead of fiction.
I also agree with what you and Nan have been commenting on this. I can understand how it would wear on you, or any thinking caring person. Take care friend, you & Sheila try to get some fun time together. Hugs. Scottie

Hi Scottie
Democracy is not easy; nor is it about plain choices either. You make a choice, you hope you have made the right one or at best the least worst one. And you must also expect to be disappointed at some stage by the folk you chose.
I agree with you wholeheartedly about the scenario that faces the USA if folk do not rally behind the Democrats because the alternative is currently so much worse.
Thank you for your wishes. Sheila can’t get out much for a whole host of reasons, but when we do we try and make the best of it. Even if it is only going to a cafe or supermarket restaurant section and having tea and cake or maybe a small meal. As our eldest Meg says, approvingly ‘Mum and Dad. You lead simple lives,’
Thanks again Scotty.
All our best wishes
Roger & Sheila

Just a PS Scottie, based on time lines, it being 22.22 GMT here I’m guessing it’s afternoon where you are.
Hope you have a good break tonight either watching films etc or playing Halo.
Best wishes
Roger.
