The Importance Of Ukraine

  1. Sometimes I fall back on not very good poetry- apologies in advance:
(Sheila is the true and talented poet in our household)

    I shouldn’t put a ‘like’ in here.
I am conflicted. How many of these dead deserve it?
This is but my ragged response
To the lies spilled out by both Right and Left
    Who for their disparate reasons
    Find Common Cause in conflicts
In this instance in trying to give Putin
    Yet another Free Pass.
At worse they have blood on their hands.
At best they are ‘Korisne Budale’*

Serbian for ‘Useful Innocents’ – a term used by Tito’s government during the early Cold War era referring to Westerners deemed as “confused and misguided sympathizers”

    1. Thank you Roger. I like what Ukraine has done to Russia and its military image. For all my life Russia has been treated as a serious threat equal in might to the US. A serious threat. But with many fewer weapons and a much smaller fighting force, Ukraine has removed 80% of the Russian military force. Yes the price being paid by Ukrainians is horrible, and I admit I still say NATO should move in and drive Russia out. Or at least provide air coverage to stop the missile bombardments killing civilians. Russia is targeting civilians just as Israel is. We have the ability to stop both, and because we don’t, the deaths are on our government’s hands also. Hugs. Scottie

      1. There has always been a likelihood that Ukraine will come off worse in the long term. Russia has a record of starting off badly in a war and yet coming out with advantages at the end of the episode….by that I mean sometimes decades. Although the costs are always very, very, very high,
It is very, very unlikely NATO will get involved, unless of course Russia goes into, say the Baltic, or Poland in which case treaties an enacted. Despite the hysteria, or prejudice or money under the counter of the Western Supporters of Russia, NATO is effectively a mutual defence set up, and NO, Russia did have other options. The argument that Russia was forced into this action by Western ‘aggression’ carries about as much moral weight as MAGA trying to re-write American History. If you buy into that idea then…gee guys you should not be protesting about Israel (Hamas started it…right?….That by the way Scottie is for the benefit of Leftists in UK, Europe & US).

Basically War does not have a moral high ground; it is a failure of policy by nations and society. Then they have to call in the Military to dig them out and get upset because things don’t go cleanly.

As I’ve been saying to Jill recently….
        ‘Jeeez Louise!’
