Hi Nan. I wonder if there was not some bigotry involved on the cop’s part. Regardless if he was intoxicated or not, he swerved into a gay bar when it was closing, which would be the time the patrons were leaving the building. I remember when Ron had the gay bar in the late 1980s / early 1990s the police would wait until closing and then hassle the people leaving or wait until they got into their cars to do a sobriety check on them. But they never interfered if some local rednecks decided to attack a few queers leaving the bar. I remember that some lesbians took it on themselves to be protectors of those leaving the club and more than a few good old boys had their asses handed to them by the women. That seemed to stop the assaults.
But I do like your comment … in today’s world. Times do change don’t they. Hugs. Scottie

…because we’re cops! We have badges and guns. We “are” the law! How dare you be angry because I drove into your bar!
Goddamned assholes is what they are.
You will see a lot of Barney’s, before you will see any Andy’s. I’m not even sure that simile/metaphor/whatever, works anymore. More like, you will see a lot red hat wearing thugs with guns, and a Klan hood under their bed, before you will see any Andy’s.

Hi Shelldigger, I agree. I got the reference, dang I am so old. But why do the police have to be so arrogant and always the top boss, never disrespected. It was not that way when I was an auxiliary deputy sheriff. We were trained to take what was verbally dished out, to deescalate all situations, to put our feelings aside. Today police are taught that their safety is paramount and every second they could be killed, so they need to be as aggressive as possible. It was not like that for me in the late 1980s in Vermont.
