Update to roof saga

As I said before, we bought / had an expensive roof put on the house.  The roof company is well known and reputable, and in the time we have had their roof product they have been great in responding to any complaint.   The roof comes with a lifetime warranty … excepting cat 5 hurricanes.  So long story short which is hard for me, we had problems after we got the new roof.

The person they sent out was a very helpful and knowledgeable, and he helped us a lot.  When he took off the kitchen bottom of the skylight water dripped out.  He also found what we had not, that the bathroom skylight also had water in it.  He replaced the bathroom one, but the kitchen one he said not to put back up as the material was too damaged and it might just give way.   He said he wouldn’t have used the same sealant the first repair team did.  So he took lots of pictures of the inside spots, and the roof.  Then he went back to talk to the manager.

When he came back, he went on the roof and caulked every thing he said he could think of that might need it.  We talked with him a long time after he got off the roof and came inside.  We explained to him how every time we try to repair the house, something goes badly wrong.  I told him how the first week we owned the house the refrigerator fell throw the floor, the third week I fell through the fool in the bedroom in front of Ron’s closet.  I told him the house was cursed.   We all laughed.

So at first he said after a couple rains to call the company back.  I was not comfortable with that because that put it on us and to again call them and get the call service and all that.  But after I talked to him, he said he would put it in his schedule to come and check in on us.   Also the company will fix the damage around the skylight so it is secure again.

At this point I am not sure what more could have been expected or achieved.  We got the company to address and deal with the issue.  On the other hand, we have another issue problem to deal with in the kitchen.  Below I will put the pictures.   I will say this guy had years with the company, and he did not seem impressed with the work the repair team did.  But we just need a roof that doesn’t leak, and he even said the recent mold problem we had was due to the roof leak, in his opinion. I doubt I will get much done the rest of the day.  I have been awake since 2:30 am, and I got up at 4:04 am.  With no naps, I am tired.     Hugs.   Scottie

  1. Whew.

I wonder if you have mildew, or if it is mold, if the mold is exacerbating yours and Ron’s recent health troubles. But it seems you’re getting decent service with this company, and I’m glad for you. Sometimes … as we all know!

    1. Hello Ali. We are having a horrible time with it right now. We suddenly found stuff on all the furniture, walls, and even the ceiling of the bedroom. Ron scrubbed everything with a strong algaecide. But then we found it in my closet, and he cleaned that. Then just before the repair roofing guy got here, Ron found it on the hallway ceiling outside our bedroom.

Ron showed it to the roof guy, he took pictures of it all. He claims it is coming from the roof leaks. So we also have a dirt smell coming up both underneath the house and from the outside. So Ron has set up his ozone machine we had to use after the hurricane.

Both Ron and I have breathing problems. He uses a C-Pap at night. I have just started seeing a pulmonologist because of shortness of breath and sometimes feeling like I can’t breathe. Not during sleeping but like when I first lay down, if I get too excited, if I bend over then stand up quickly.

I don’t know how much the company will pay for inside repair. Clearly the roof was not installed completely correctly. But we can not afford to push a claim against a large company either. Sort of at their mercy in this. As I said in the post, the company told us to leave the base unit off as he felt it would fall out if he tried to put it back on. None of this area was like that before they put their roof / skylights on.

The other problem Ali, is both Ron and I are feeling less than energetic. I feel very tired all the time right now, I go lay down but can not sleep, then I get so tired I can not function and go to bed, only to wake at like 2 AM and not go back to sleep. Right now I am getting little sleep and always dragged out tired.

Ron is trying to do things but feeling a lot the same. He often, like today, sleeps until nearly 9 am, but then goes back for a nap in the afternoon. Then he stays up until 10 or a later, he comes into the bedroom and lets me know so I can take my insulin shot and pills. Then he tries to sleep. Often he goes to sleep but wakes up and reads for different time lengths. We often talk during the night as both of us are awake. Then he falls asleep and I am fully awake so get up. I often think to get up by 2:30 am but try to force my self to stay there until 4 am.

A lot of detail you did not ask for I know but we are trying to figure out why we can not sleep at night, why I tend to crash out so early and why both of us feel so tired during different times of the day. It would be great if we had the same schedule but we don’t. I am sleepy when Ron is wide awake and he is sleepy when I am. Weird. Hugs. Scottie

      1. Well, I’ve read about mold and how it creates and exacerbates illness, so likely it isn’t mildew. I’m sorry about that. I’m trying to think of something to do or someone to call, but it is FL, and as you said about affording to push things with a large company, especially in a state with little regulation. I think it will all work out for you guys, but I think it will take time, which doesn’t help with anything.
Blame the lack of sleep synchronicity on moon phases. Today at 5PM CST, it’s the new moon. Actually 4:59, 5 min. from me typing this. Blame it on the moon phases.

      2. That sounds like so much modern misery. MayI suggest staying in a hotel for a night or two to see if a decent sleep can be had? Sleep deprivation does so much to your body and mind, and heavily manifests in poor decision making. I’m sure you know all of that.

Take care, Scottie. Hugs ‘n cheers, M
