Most Americans want legal pot. Here’s why feds are taking so long to change old rules.
The DEA has for decades held that marijuana is among the most dangerous, highly addictive drugs. The science has changed, but the DEA hasn’t.

Even when one thinks an overwhelming percentage of the population supports something, it doesn’t always turn out that way when it comes to an actual vote. For example in the 2020 general elections, we also voted on two referendum: the End of Life Choice (legalising assisted suicide) and Cannabis Legalisation. Most pundits thought that Cannabis Legalisation would be approved by a comfortable margin, and that the End of Life Choice would be a close call. But it turned out that voters were in favour of the End of Life Choice 2:1 (Yes: 65.1%; No: 33.7%), while Cannabis Legalisation was split almost evenly (Yes: 48.4%; No: 50.7%).
In the final few months leading up to the referendum, the pro End of Life Choice and anti Cannabis Legalisation lobbies both waged very effective and convincing campaigns. So we have ended up in a situation where recreational Cannabis use is prohibited, but it’s Ok to assist someone to kill themselves. BTW I voted Yes to both.

Hi Barry. Very true that people can be swayed in their thinking about an issue by heavy campaigning. The thing is for 80 years or more the message put out by authorities / police / government is that cannabis is the worst drug ever, worse than cocaine or heroin. Yet the fact is about 70 to 75 present of the public says they use it and more would use it if it was legal. I just think that the government needs to be careful, over hyping something masks the possible real dangers it might really have by making it sound much worse than people see it is.
The government needs to get out of the business of being every adult’s mom and dad, and let people have responsibility for their own bodies and personal actions. Why it is the government’s business to tell consenting adults how and who to have sex with or to say how many people can be in a relationship together. Yet the republicans in red states try to do that. Once the republicans were the party of small government, now they have become the party of the nanny government. Best wishes. Scottie
