Let’s talk about Oklahoma vaguely….

What Beau is referring to is an N.B or transgender teen who was brutally assaulted in a girls’ bathroom.    Notice that the attacks on trans and non-binary people in bathrooms got much worse at the urging of right wing hate preachers / politicians.  Notice it is the rhetoric is always that trans people will hurt your daughters, but the facts show that is wrong.  It is the trans people being hurt by cis people.  For needing to use a toilet.   I did not post the quote but in the first article it mentions Ryan Walters, Oklahoma’s superintendent of public instruction, is facing intense scrutiny over his ties to Chaya Raichik, the figure behind the far-right Libs of TikTok hate account, and for their outspoken stance against transgender rights.   Hugs.  Scottie

The grandmother, Sue Benedict, told The Independent that her child had been the subject of months of intensifying bullying that began earlier in 2023 after Oklahoma’s Republican-led government banned transgender students from using school bathrooms that align with their gender identity.Benedict told their grandmother that they and another trans student had fought the other students in the bathroom, according to the Independent. The teen told her they’d hit their head on the floor.  “Nex did not see themselves as male or female,” Sue Benedict said. “Nex saw themselves right down the middle. I was still learning about it, Nex was teaching me that.”  https://news.yahoo.com/oklahoma-transgender-student-dies-allegedly-125629309.html

What is nonbinary?

nonbinary person experiences their gender identity and/or gender expression outside of the binary categories of “man” and “woman.” Other words may be used by nonbinary people to describe their gender more specifically, including agender, bigender, demigender and pangender.

Some nonbinary people call themselves transgender and consider themselves part of the transgender community, while others do not.

“Nonbinary is an umbrella term that encompasses many different ways to understand one’s gender,” according to GLAAD.

What is transgender?

Transgender describes a person whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.

A person can be transgender without having gone through a transition — the process in which a person brings their gender expression and/or their body into alignment with their gender identity. A transition can include a social transition, legal transition and medical transition.

What is cisgender?

Cisgender refers to a person who is not transgender, and whose gender identity aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth.

  1. word around our high school is that administration, while stating they have a zero tolerance for bullying of any type seldom do anything about the bullying of trans kids. The peer review group at our high school generally becomes involved and students are routinely referred to the administration for community service and in-school suspension. Even though I believe the teens involved should be charged with murder enhanced by being a hate crime I strongly doubt that will be the outcome. When the highest admin for education is so strongly against civil rights I can’t see anyone holding those teens responsible.

    1. Hello Suze. The stopping of anti-bullying programs was one of the goals of the don’t say gay laws in Florida and other red states. It left teachers who wanted to support the bullied LGBTQIA kids with their hands tied as they were now not allowed to correct / stop the bullies. Sadly I remember being in 7 or 8th grade. A small kid who kept to my self. Some of the largest kids cornered me and started beating me up after science class. The teacher who would be a complete tRump supporting maga today just watched the largest gang leader and his friends rearrange my face for me and give my ribs and legs some real deep bruises.  When they laughingly walked away as I struggle to stand up the teacher leaned down to me and loudly said “That is what you get for being a fagot, you deserve it, I hope they do it again” I was not out as a kid and got no help as I limped to the bathroom to wash the blood off my face. Needless to say no matter my test scores I got a D in the class. This is what the republicans want to bring back. I guess this is Christian love. We moved beyond those days, we can not let the haters return us to them. Remember those days were not that long ago historically, the people in the legislature today making these laws might have been in the schools at the time when hate was rampant, open, and few opposed the bullies. They liked it then, they like it now. Hugs. Scottie

        1. Hi Suze. Sadly at that time in my life it was basically all I knew about life, it was only pain, hurt, fear. I lived with the constant fear of the monsters at home, so I tried to stay away from there but a kid has to be home sometimes right? In a small town with fewer people than cattle. I lived in a world that had very few acts of kindness and a lot of the other side of the coin. So for me, school was just another thing to survive. So I stayed to myself, hid the bruises and scars, but that every act of trying to deal with a world I could escape from made me seem different. In those days we had people like Anita Bryant who was the Libs of TikTok person Chaya Raichik of her day, spewing the same things then as Chaya Raichik does now. They never change the rhetoric, just the way they distribute it. Parents believed it, kids heard it at home from their parents and at school from hateful believing teachers. It gave them permission to attack kids who were in any way different because they had to be that evil horrible monster that the gays are, right. Beat up will fix them, it was what they needed and deserved. Then they will see the light of the loving / hatefully vengeful god and become straight little good Christians. Same then as now. But those kids were most just different. We did not have openly gay out kids in a community school serving small towns full of conservative people. Just kids that did not fit in for one reason or another, and yes a few that were also gay and trying to hide it.

That was then, a long time ago. So many people worked to make kids know that there were places to go to if they were being abused and hurt at home or anywhere. Programs to promote tolerance and acceptance were started and funded, and not just in schools but to the public as well. Eventually even some churches got on board with the idea of at least tolerance and some promoted acceptance which really helped. As normal the military led the way in trying to change the perceptions of gay service members as they had done with black ones decades before.

Then becomes the last few years, the hate preachers started their attacks, and it gave rise to people like tRump and DeathSantis. These people enjoyed the hate and cruelty, and drank in the idea of erasing the entire LGBTQIA by returning to the past. The rest of the right wing politicians seeing the wins of those other haters and bigots also started promoting hate and intolerance, bigotry and racism, attacks and violence against any who were different or expressed non-right wing hate ideology. Fundamentalist used stealth tactics to get on to school boards to stop and change tolerance and anti-bullying programs. To remove the safety and protections kids who were different had gained.

Sorry for the rant / sermon, I know you understand this, but it is more for those who are reading along. I never want any kid to suffer as I did, and so many other kids did who were different back in those days. I can’t image decent people wanting a return to those times. Furthermore, I am doing everything I can to stop the spread of hate, bigotry, and misinformation that is being spewed from the right like the stuff from a manure spreader on high speed dispersion. Not only that, but I am so grateful for people like you and the other supporters that come here. I am not a kid anymore, but I know every kid who is different desperately needs you, your support, and your willingness to stand when they either can’t or are too scared to. Thank you. Many hugs, Scottie
