  1. Hi Scottie;

     I would find myself disagreeing with Beau today. While the politics and methodology are vastly different, it seems the focus remains very near to all of them as they play to the corporate backing they somehow require to operate. I believe Katie Porter is a classic example of that; she made it a habit to go after the corporate greed and failure to see their work force as important. Suddenly someone with a great voting record and who is very personable, intelligent and effective loses her re-election.

     The Obama’s used a phrase about the opposition taking the low road and they then taking the high road. Really, it is just two different paths to the same outcome: being in power. Frankly, I think we get played by the politician and the money behind them, and by the parties themselves. At the risk of quoting trump… ’they send their rapists, thieves, extortionists, and I guess a few good people’. They leave the rest of us hoping to simply live our lives and be genuine to ourselves lost and threatened.

     It reminds me of a song by Pink called “What About Us”.  In general, I feel like we as citizens of the country are held hostage to the whims of idiots in charge, manipulated by overblown egos and under-developed morals. As much as I like Biden, he’s 80 years old! Is there no one who is capable, aware of the issues of the times and what the future is bringing, a good leader who is available? When history and reality are no longer important, when any issue is open to “alternative facts”, we little people are powerless. The one power we have we are seeing in the campus quads now, and you see how that is going – rather than report of the reason for the drawing together and demonstration, we hear the bullshit about how dare they waste time and money like this.

    1. Hello Randy. I guess I see things differently than you do and I agree with Beau. Yes Katie Porter lost the Senate race, but not her reelection … yet. The reason she lost was the Pelosi machine supported the corporate democrat over the progressive one. That situation has been developing starting in the late 1970s / 1980s. But it is turning around. More and more progressives are winning over “establishment” corporate democrats.

      Yes the phrase money talks is true. The democrats seen the large amount of corporate money and power that the money gave the republicans so they wanted some, it corrupted them. That is shifting back as corporations have shown they can not be satisfied with the largest piece of the pie, they demand the entire thing.

      But the real issue is the last part of what you talked about … we the people. The public, the unwashed masses. That is where there is a serious difference between the parties.

      The republicans have shown they don’t care about the people, the public. The republicans cut food assistance for both adults and kids including school lunch programs. The republicans cut medical aid to everyone they can include the poorest people. When in charge the republicans tried endlessly to end the ACA / Obama act. The republicans slash regulations to stop pollutions and anything to improve climate issues. The republicans do all they can to kill renewable energy to increase the profit of fossil fuel companies. The republicans take from the public to feed the taxpayer’s money to the wealthy. Trump tax cuts added 8 trillion to the federal debt. Republicans add to the debt but demand democrats reduce it.

      Reagan took the deficit from 70 billion to 175 billion.
      Bush 41 took it to 300 billion.
      Clinton got it to zero.
      Bush 43 took it from 0 to 1.2 trillion.
      Obama halved it to 600 billion.
      Trump’s got it back to a trillion.

      The republicans cut funding for roads, bridges, and all infrastructure including trains. And so much more.

      The Democrats try to do the opposite. Look at what Biden has passed. He passed infrastructure so need and great that even though they voted against the republicans keep trying to take credit for. Biden passed the child summer food programs that republicans refused. Democrats try to increase health care and cut costs, look at the Biden health bill. Democrats try to increase medicaid and lower drug prices. My insulin is at a max of $35 a month and Ron’s is only $11 a month due to Biden. Democrats push for more civil rights for people including the LGBTQ+ while the republicans are banning books and trying to stop women from having a say over their bodies. Biden is desperately trying to pass student debt relief programs that republicans are suing in court to stop. Democrats push for a higher minimum wage while republicans want a desperate work force.

      There is so much more like while Biden is trying to protect trans kids rights in schools and trans peoples public rights in general by making it easier to go to the bathroom, change documents, but republicans are trying to end trans care and trans rights to use the bathroom or even change their names and documents.

      So Randy, I see a huge difference between the parties. One party protected me and helped Ron and I legally marry and have insurance. One party made it legal for people like me to be open about who we were in the military. The other party wants to make sex between two men illegal and end Ron and my marriage, while preventing people like me from serving in the military.

      I see a Democratic Party that is trying hard against republicans resistance to help the people, the public, the little people. I see a Republican Party that cares only for the wealthy and trying to create a 1950s racist bigoted society of white men in control with women subservient to them, Christianity is the only true religion and is automatically give moral authority, blacks know their place and stay there, and the LGBTQ+ are hidden in the closet terrified of being discovered and outed. That is the world the republicans want to create. It is a world that people like you and us can not exist in. Hugs. Scottie
