Scotties Playtime first video

Hi grand people.   Yesterday I made what I hope will be daily videos.  I need to work on the audio, and I apologize for tapping on the desk so a small section of the video.  I did not think it was audible and only when I played it back did I realize it.  I would love better sound equipment.  Ron is wondering if a lapel mic would be better.  He also intends to but something behind me to absorb the sounds.  Once he saw the video he helped me adjust the lighting.  He did not like how the bright light was washing out my lips.  He said he was going to buy me lipstick.  😜😁😂💖  Anyway here is the video.  If you need CC it takes YouTube a couple of days I think to add that and sometimes it is sloppy at it.   Hope you enjoy.  Hugs.  Scottie

  1. Nice to put a face and voice to you Scottie. Actually the face I won’t be able to recognise next video due alexithymia, but I’m sure I’ll remember the voice 😁

A couple of points. I find monologues longer than 10 minutes difficult to to absorb, but that might just be because I’m autistic. And again because I my autism, I was distracted by the chair headrest not being level.

The content and style of your presentation is very pleasant. I’m looking towards more 🥳🥳

    1. Hello Barry. Thank you for input, I need that. I struggle with keeping it short, but will try better in the future. I would rather do three shorter ones than one overly long one. I did one today that was just 11 minutes but when I checked it there was no audio. I still don’t know the problem. Everything seemed working. It was so frustrating I gave up for the day.

As to face recognition I have the same issue. Ron and I go to the local stores and we meet people who will talk to us that I have known for years. We go a few aisles over and I quietly ask Ron … “Who was that person”? Once he gives me the name I remember all about them, but I just can not see a face and know who that person is.

On the chair headrest that was the first thing Ron noticed when I showed him the video. I just told him you also were bothered about it and he joked we could take the headrest off. I did not agree. But I don’t know if it is the way I lean my head or where I have the camera. I will try to change the camera to being more straight on to me. Thanks for the input it will help me improve. Best wishes. Scottie

      1. Of course I meant to write “Prosopagnosia” not “alexithymia” (although I have both). About 40% of autistics have Prosopagnosia compared to 3% in the general population. I’m better at recognising people by their voices than by their faces. Unfortunately I’ve found most people refuse that such a condition really exists and prefer to think of it as being rude.

I re-listened to your video with my eyes closed and that helped as I didn’t have the visual distractions. At least you won’t notice if I’m not making direct eye contact. I wish that could be extended to real life situations 🤣

I particularly like your presentation. Your diction is clear and even though I often have difficulty processing speech, I found yours surprisingly easy. Perhaps it’s the relaxed speed of your speaking, but what I like is that you do pause at the end of each sentence which gives me an opportunity to process what has been said.

        1. Thank you Barry. Everything you told me will help me make a better video. I tried to do one yesterday, it was only 11 minutes and about having to bathe our cat. But when I played it back there was no audio. I am so frustrated over it right now. Again thanks for the suggestions, it does help. And I need all the help with this I can get. Because I love doing it, but am so frustrated over the tech issues. Best wishes. Scottie

  2. I agree with Barry: the content and style are very pleasant, and easy to follow. The rest doesn’t bother me; I didn’t notice it, but when I read about it, I could see it. I’m not a very good critic as to such things; I don’t even mind where you look when you do these! I’m primarily listening. I would give an A for this, were I in a position to give grades. I can see why you say video is your medium.

    1. Thank you Ali. I hope to change a lot of my content to videos. It is so much easier for me. I just wrote to Barry that I did a funny 11 minute video on bathing one of our cats, but when I played it back, I had no audio. Still not sure why. Hugs. Scottie
