You know, these things have been reported during every administration since at least the Clinton (which would have devolved from HWBush/Reagan.) I remember it, at least annually. The DoD and Pentagon get boatloads of money (and I may be naming the wrong entity, so I’ll stick to military from here on out,) so much so that during GW and Trump, they asked for less money. Yet it’s evident they’ve never addressed this situation at all, ever, since way back when. I suppose this has to come up like this during the election so it can all be blamed on Pres. Biden, though he’s made statements about getting military families off welfare and Medicaid, and fixing housing so families can live together. Someone with more time than I have can likely easily trace all this back.
Meanwhile, I’m not complaining about the news getting out again! No one, but especially those who make this special sacrifice to serve in/with the US military, ought to live like this. Maybe now it can get fixed?

Hi Ali. The truth is the majority of money in the military budget goes to defense contractors to make and keep supplying fancy expensive toys and upper officers. The amount of money O-5 and up get paid and the O-7 and above retire on is so far above what the enlisted ranks get. Only the enlisted E-7 and above start to make a decent wage. The lower enlisted don’t make enough to live on if they live off base and have a spouse or children. The first barracks in the US I was in were world war 2 wooden barracks that were hardly standing and the walls were so thin and cracked you could see through them. The best barracks I stayed in was in Germany, both sides. I have seen US housing for married enlisted and they were desperately needing repairs. But that might cost the military one super plane or special tank. Troops are expendable, but generals and defense companies protect their own. Hugs. Scottie
