I believe, sincerely, that I am closer to a follower of Jesus than the Christocratic Evangelical church members who would see me (and you Scottie) imprisoned or worse for who we are.
The words attributed to Christ (the red letter parts of the Bible) contain much wisdom, and I try to respect and honor those words, even as I doubt the Divinity of the man himself.
What you do unto the least of these, you do unto me. A paraphrase of Matthew 25:40.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34
And I will burn in hell? I think not.

Hi Janet. I agree with you entirely. Rev. Ed Trevor also feels that way. You and I seem to have the same belief systems. We agree more with the mythical Jesus (I doubt the divinity also and research shows that Jesus was a common name and a few different preachers had it.) but regardless the red words do have some uplifting qualities we all should aspire to. I just wish fundamental Christians would. Hugs. Scottie

Indeed. People are leaving Christianity in droves as they realize that what they are taught is counter to everything Christ (real or mythical) taught.

As I recall the story when Jesus was wandering around the desert and the devil offered him everything ~ water; wealth, riches, fame, 72 virgins ~ he said ” get the frack away from me, man, have you been drinking?”
My favorite passage is of course “keep it in the closet“
The way I read Jesus is don’t be a follower …

In the early 70s, there was some “mod” church music for young people-sort of glomming on to “Godspell” and Jesus Christ Superstar”-one I particularly liked, though the tune wasn’t cheerful, had the hook that said, “And they’ll know we are Christian by our love, by our love, and they’ll know we are Christian by our love.” That one has stayed with me.
(Honestly, most of the “mod” music was lame, both lyrically and melody-wise. We didn’t get anything really cool, like actual music from those two shows. Just in case there were questions. Personally, I enjoyed the old, classical, beautiful church music. But I could be lame, too.)

I don’t believe a person has to “convert” to follow Jesus, either. I forgot that is the actual subject.
