NYT: Trump’s Applicants Are Undergoing Loyalty Tests

The New York Times reports:

The questions went further than just affirming allegiance to the incoming administration. The interviewers asked which candidate the applicants had supported in the three most recent elections, what they thought about the events of Jan. 6, 2021, and whether they believed the 2020 election was stolen. The sense they got was that there was only one right answer to each question.

Applicants who said they gave what they intuited to be the wrong answer — either decrying the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6 or saying that President Biden won in 2020 – were met with silence and the taking of notes. They didn’t get the jobs.

Charlie Kirk, the right-wing activist and pro-MAGA podcaster, is among those conducting the loyalty tests, along with members of the personnel team. The more policy-focused interviews have been conducted by members of the transition staff and by potential agency heads, such as Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard.

  1. Oh FTFNYT!!! QUIT SANEWASHING!!! This isn’t a ‘loyalty test’, it’s a ‘Are you prepared to believe lies?’ test

“Want a job in the Trump Administration? Be prepared to deny the evidence of your lying eyes”

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

    1. Hi Bruce. Damn well said. I love it. Most of the reason tRump won was the sane washing of everything he did and said while hammering Biden and then Harris over every small or perceived fault. Also the Handmaid’s Tale was not an instruction manual. But never give the republicans or the fundamentalist right an idea of how to oppress people because that is their goal in life. Hugs

  2. All that stuff BDR said, + NYWT could have reported that would happen under a new Trump admin back when we read (in other places that do cover news) that Charlie Kirk and others were talking about doing that very thing in a new Trump admin. Maybe if they’d bothered actual reportage before the election, some people would have voted a little differently.

NYWT’s pearls are really TicTacs, so don’t shake their hands, because they’ll be sticky after all the clutching. FFS.

    1. Hi Ali. By my dogs that love gravy Ali you are so correct. The corporate media is why we are where we are. They hounded Biden for every stumble, every mumbled word. But tRump stumbled and he slaughtered words and at points couldn’t speak. Heck one rally he gave up and just had them play his favorite music. Imagine if Biden had done that? This election was thrown from the beginning by the media. The “mainstream media” is corporate media. And those shareholders and corporate bosses understand the greed principle in the US. Profit is king in the US. Oh no, I had more to say but Ron is doing the what if we go to bed thing. Hugs

      1. And I’ve been feeling bad about the possibility of seeming to be “shooting the messenger” because your post was actually about what 47’s admin is getting ready to do, and I did not address that at all.

It’s hard, because we all knew this stuff would happen if the Don was elected. But he has been elected, so there it is. I still have no sympathy for these media, though, who could have easily reported what was widely reported by other, lesser known news outlets, and would have made a difference. But, still, it is news now, too.
