Senate Democrats appear ready to back down in government shutdown fight
Senate Democrats say the six-month government funding resolution that passed the House Tuesday is a “horrible” bill, but there’s growing sentiment within the Senate Democratic conference that it would be too risky to block the legislation and risk a government shutdown that could drag on for weeks.

As posted earlier, only 7 are wavering. They’re the ones we the people need to move to vote in opposition of the bill, which was described in the earlier post. It doesn’t have to happen, but we the people have to do our duty. Off to do mine right now; I only stopped in because I saw this headline. Use it or lose it.

Hi Ali. Sadly most congress critters don’t pay much attention to those that live out of the state or district so can’t vote for them. When I call my local offices the first question I get asked is where I live or what district I am in. I hope you got better results, when I have called out of state congressional offices I get a polite thanks for calling and they really don’t seem to care. But I agree we have to try something, anything to stop the destruction of our democracy. Hugs

That’s the beauty of it. You don’t have to tell them where you’re calling from. They each only wanted a name, and an email if you expect a response. It’s on their machines in DC.
What we’re trying to do here, besides our civic duty to preserve our democracy, is make sure these Dems understand that we the people have their backs when they behave like Democrats. They still represent the entire country, even as they come from the several states. Here’s basically what I said:
Hello, I’m Alison Redford, and I’m calling to urge Senator (name) to vote in opposition to the House’s continuing resolution, which should be coming before you quite soon. I’ve read the bill, understand it, and it would be catastrophic for all the people if it becomes the law. I understand that there could be a shutdown if this bill doesn’t pass, but that’s on Republicans, who crafted this resolution with no Democratic input. We the people know this, and we do not want this bill to pass. Again, please vote in opposition to this continuing resolution. Thank you.
So just adjust the names, leave the messages, move on about the day knowing you did all you could to prevent catastrophe. Hitting the streets after allowing this to pass will only get people arrested. They should observe legal methods of affecting legislation, and do it now. The time Randy wrote about, and we’ve all been discussing since the election, is here.
OK. Off the soapbox.

Hi Ali. I am glad you got the response you did and that you did it. The last time I called any congress critters I was asked my name and where I lived. You can imagine the response I got when I was calling from a different state than the congress critter was in. But hey that was a few years ago. Now every office has caller number id. Things might have changed. Hugs

Well, and so many cell phones have area codes that don’t match where they are, either. Hard to say.
I remember before the plane crashes in 2001, no one ever asked from which state I was calling. Then, after the anthrax attacks, they cracked down on that, though they lightened up after Pres. Obama took office. I was surprised I didn’t have to tell this time, really.

Now I have finished calling those 7 Senators. A couple of them, I called their state offices, as well. They are apparently getting many calls, as I could only leave messages. That Does Not Mean That Each Of Us Doesn’t Need To Call!!! Leave that message-it’s a record. It takes little time and effort, and if/when the nazis come, you’ll know you did what you could to forestall it. That sounds funny, and I sort of mean it in a lighter fashion, but it is truly serious business, and we need to do our work to guard our democracy.
Also I will curse everyone who didn’t make calls or send emails. I won’t know who you a re and don’t want to, it will be a blanket curse, and it will be miserable.⚡⚡⚡ CALL!!!⚡
