(One’s a meme.) It’s likely been obvious since I’ve been posting here, that aside from some comments I make which are my own and don’t represent the blog, I’m careful about what sort of energy I put into the Playtime universe. I’ve just finished reading Evan Hurst’s Moral High Ground for today, and while it’s wildly, hilariously entertaining as well as pertinent, it’s not the energy I want to put out, so instead, here is a meme from me, with a bit from the piece, which is linked, and if you like really snarky humor, please do go enjoy it! It’s just a little rougher than I want to post here, even though I restacked it on substack. To be totally clear, the meme applies to myself and what Chip Gaines said. And now, we carry on- A.
Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point

Snippet from The Moral High Ground:
I don’t know what Chip Gaines’s walk with the Lord on these issues has consisted of, bu his response to the manufactured controversy from God’s most wasted creations confirms that he’s indeed been on some version of such a walk, unlike anybody else in this post.

One line in there tells me that Chip, wherever he is exactly on this issue, his heart is at least aiming in the direction of Jesus:
Talk, ask qustns, listen.. maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st, understand later/never It’s a sad sunday when “non believers” have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian
“Maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture.” That’s biting, but that’s not the line. “Judge 1st, understand later/never.” He’s not fucking around, but that’s still not the line.
“It’s a sad sunday when ‘non believers’ have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian.”
There it is. That’s the one that says he gets it. (snip-do go read it all, if you like; link below!)
Chip And Joanna Done Pissed Off The Bigots, Oh Lord by Evan Hurst
Joanna better not give a gay couple any shiplap! Read on Substack
Hi Ali. I don’t know what Chip Gaines’s walk with the Lord… I have been taught in the church boarding school I went to that everyone’s walk with the Lord was different. “It’s a sad Sunday when ‘nonbelievers’ have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian.”
I think I understand the meaning of the post, that Christians especially fundamentalist Christian leaders use their pulpit to express the most vile hate towards others. And that is true.
If I might offer a bit of a different view about religion, both good and bad.
Growing up as a sexually abused boy I was moved to a small cow town. In this town was a nondenominational church that my abusing females once tried to ingratiate themselves in. While they were involved in trying to earn their way into heaven they gave the “pastor” the “access and rights to my body”. I was only 8 years old, but he was kind and nice and it did not hurt me to get what he wanted.
But before anyone think I am saying all religious people or institutions are bad I need to mention my life was saved by a wealthy farm owner who also was a Seventh Day Adventist. I worked for him for several years because I had a crush on his son who had been a friend of mine for a decade. When at 17 the farmer found me hiding on the farm after a very bad beating from my adopting parent, I begged him to let me hide in his barn for the summer. He instead arranged for me to go to a church boarding school with him paying for it.
On this channel I have both harpooned and attacked the hate preachers and those that use religion to hurt others. But I have also used this channel to showcase the preachings of accepting religious leaders. I have never blocked those with a different view of their god only those that use that view to hurt others they disagree with. Hugs

First, I replied to your email, twice!
Next, well, Evan Hurst, who is a great writer of news with humor and sharp points, wrote that. And I agree with him; Chip Gaines did a Christian thing with that post about people finding hate when they meet a Christian. You might get some good laughs from that article, too. But meanwhile, I’m not a fan of Chip Gaines; I’ve read things about business dealings and possibly family dealings. I don’t care for Joanna Gaines’s cooking shows, either, but only because she’s got a lot of privilege and is pretty obvious she expects all her viewers to also have that. Not bad people, but I can watch cooking shows from any number of good people who I enjoy watching while they manage to make sure people feel they can do what they’re watching. I don’t really do house reno TV shows, maybe those are great, I don’t know. But, I agree with Evan Hurst: Chip Gaines said that about a marginalized person meeting a random American Christian, and in more cases than not, they first receive hateful treatment. Which is the opposite of Christianity. Evan really gets into it all, though. It is funny, and it’s very sharp; sharper than I would be comfortable with being with other humans who disagree with me, except maybe inside my head where only I and God know what I’m thinking!😇👿

Hi Ali. I got your email and am glad you wrote. Anytime you send an email and I don’t respond in a timely manner please drop a note in a comment as you just did.
I sort of misunderstood the post and its point somewhat. In my defense I have been ill and running a fever for three days, with today being the worst I have felt in some time. I am full of phlegm and mucus. I only wanted to say not all Christians are intolerant and hateful. As for cooking shows I don’t watch them but Ron does nor do I watch home remodel shows so I am clueless about the people you mention. I will go read the substack article now. Hugs

Hi Ali. I read the substack. I agree people should read it. I enjoyed what he wrote and the way he wrote it. One thing I do want to comment on.
The part where the denomination’s founder said the following scares the hell out of me. It is basically the way I was treated as a kid, as an object to be used for personal pleasure regardless of how I felt or pain I was in. I feel very sorry for the woman forced to have sex with this guy. “The sexual act cannot be made into an egalitarian pleasuring party. A man penetrates, conquers, colonizes, plants. A woman receives, surrenders, accepts.” This is inexcusable in the world today but what these people want to force on all of us. Hugs

Yeah, and that’s a thing I was unwilling to post on here in the blog; I figured people can choose to go read if they feel strong enough, but reading something like that is tough for others, I believe, also as you say.
I think we understand each other, same as when this all got started!🫂
