I don’t like anything about the way Republicans are just flouting law to do what they want to do. That said, I wouldn’t blame anyone who said they’d just as soon go back without any trouble, though from the article, it looks as if the children are still in custody for a while, rather than simply going back out of the US. It’s always something with Republicans; sounds good, isn’t real.
everything, it seems, that Republicans touch these days hurts someone. Then again, it’s been like this for 70+ years, the Repubs do it ‘their way’ for what seems to be for the good of the country, and it usually turns out later that it wasn’t so good after all. Except for the people who benefited the most. And it also seems that the Dems spend so much time putting things back together where they can that they never get credit for any of it, and are eventually voted out of office by another Republican who is going to make it all better again. You know, early MAGA folks.
In a way it’s like having a sister who loves to paint walls. All walls. Any walls. Trouble is, she’s color blind and hasn’t a clue about what color is going where. She gets praised for her chatreuse and red walls (mostly because Mama is color blind, too) and you spend your entire holiday vacation redoing all the walls. Every. Damn. Year.
Ali, they’ve been doing this since Eisenhower. Nothing new, but it does become more destructive as time goes along…
Hi Ali. You are up on the news and during the first tRump term we all heard about the Flores settlement which was a court case that governed how kids would be treated and handled. It gave ICE / border patrol 72 hours to get a kid to HHS and then they had to find, vet, and release the kid to adults who were related to them or sponsoring them. During that time while they are in HHS custody they are to be treated correctly. tRump’s admin was doing none of that as I am sure can imagine. We say the kids in cages, the reports the kids were denied the basic hygiene supplies and were being mistreated. Some of the places they held them in were like juvenile prisons. The goal was then as now to make the conditions so miserable that the kids / adults leave voluntarily. That is the point of sending them to third party countries or to an El Salvador gulag. All the mistreatment I have heard about and posted is so those immigrant people will self deport. Hugs
