Totally Off Topic; A Question

Is there a way to block someone who’s creeping me out, liking my comments on other blogs? Any assistance will be appreciated. That is all that’s happening right now, but it’s creepy, due to the handle the account is using. Thanks!

  1. Realistically? No. They don’t need to register at all to leave comments, and even if they did, they could just register another account after they were blocked. But so far as I know, WP doesn’t even offer a block function.

    1. Thank you, Janet. I thought I might be missing something somewhere, so I wanted to ask. People can exist, and they can exist on WP, and even like posts, but it’s been a couple of times, now; no comment, just a like, a few days or more after the fact. I made mention of the account on the first blog, the first time, thinking they’d come on out and intro themselves, or something. Today I got a notif that they’d done it again on another blog.

I know it sounds small, a small thing. But it’s the account name, and the content of the account’s page, and it just sets off a bit of concern in me. I’ll just keep paying attention, for now. I’d put the account here, but I don’t want to encourage them to come here! 🙂

Thanks again, Janet. I appreciate your quick response.

          1. Wow-I really appreciate you taking time and looking these up, Janet! If/when the entity comes here, I’ll let Scottie know so we can try to deal with it.

I know I shouldn’t let it really creep me out; liking my comments on other people’s blogs, but it’s weird; I don’t care for their handle, and their page is even more off-putting. I’ll send it to you in an email. If they come here and read this, they’ll know who they are, but I don’t want to link them anywhere. I don’t know what good that will do, but I don’t feel it would be the right thing to do. Thank you again, Janet! I so appreciate your time with this, when you can be honeymooning! 🙂

  2. if that’s all they’re doing, just ignore them. Or. try coming in with a different name and persona. Not sure why that should creep you out, but sometimes people do sort of overflow the page they’re on…

    1. It’s because of the handle they’ve chosen, and the WP site they have. I don’t want to put it here, because I don’t want to draw them here, though they could easily find that I blog here. So far, they’ve stayed away, and I hope that continues. The comments they’ve liked are not zingers, or particularly witty, or anything. The liking, combined with the handle, seems attention-seeking. To me. And I appreciate your input, Judy!

    2. Oh, yeah; I thought I wrote this, but the first time it happened, I mentioned it in the comments thread. That would have been the time to come in with some sort of intro of themselves. But it was only a like, and mine turned out to be the only one they liked, among many comments, plus the blog post itself.

      I may be ultra sensitive.

  3. Hi Ali. There’s a bit of “ick” there, and I can see how that would be a bit creepy. I’m finding myself wondering about their intentions. Is this person trying to harass, intimidate, keep you from being comfortable with voicing your point? Is this person a fan and lost the plot a bit? I have zero advice, just showing support.

    1. Thank you, Randy! I so appreciate that. I can’t truly say as to intentions, but there was a chance to intro themselves, and they didn’t take it, even after that blog host also checked them out, and replied about it in comments. I’m not sure what it’s about, but the creep factor is at not quite alarm bell level, and I thought I’d ask in case there’s escalation. Thank you again!
