Snippet:
“You can make the argument that you are supporting these institutions, not undercutting them...
Newsom observed that “Donald Trump will represent this nation on our 250th anniversary, and he’s up to this?”
Richardson’s response was “We’re going to represent the nation. The most important office is that of citizen. ‘We the people’ is foundational.”
Newsom quickly seized that assessment. “You’re reminding Americans they do have agency,” he said. “It’s not what happens to us; it’s how we respond to what happens to us. He [Trump] can’t take it away from us if we don’t allow it.”
The next three years will define the USA’s future.

I don’t think we have three years left. Our future is already at the door and trying to pick the lock…

Hi Roger. Yes we must. I agree with Judy. We must take at least one house of congress if not both to stop what tRump is doing and to hold on to the next presidential election. The democrats need the House because it controls the purse constitutionally and the republicans are illegally letting tRump do as he wishes with the spending. Plus we need the Senate to control the judges he appoints. Plus both side of congress in democratic control will allow for true investigations. I think the blue states need to do far more than match the republican’s current gerrymandering. The reason restates have so much representation and power now is the for decades they gerrymandered themselves in to state power and then used that to gerrymander the federal congress. Texas is the great example. The state is 50 / 50 republicans / democrats but the republicans control everything because of gerrymandering. Same with Florida, first thing Bush did was gerrymander ensuring republican control in what was a blue state. Once they had partial control they used to take total control. Hugs

Control of the ballot box is not an answer, not even a ragged solution. Once folk have grasped what is going on then tend to take to the streets, or find other ways to oppose the government.
There are still a number of civil and civic ways in the American oppositions tool kit

Hi Roger. I really hope you are correct I am really afraid that the republicans working at the behest of the wealthy in the US will stop any real voting that will change the path of complete take over by the oligarchs. Hugs

The issue they will have to confront is that the USA at the ground live has had a long history of independent thinking, at least in the White sections of the population.
If they do try and press for comprehensive control and fail to deliver stability of work and reasonable standards of living then discontent will spread, and if they try and use suppressive measure then they will have to face ‘The Right To Bear Arms’ issue which will be ironic.
Things are bad but the USA has not been pushed to complete dislocation between people and government yet.

Hi Judy I agree with you. Please see my reply to Roger. We must take control of congress at the midterm or we won’t have a fair 2028 presidential election if we have one at all. Newsom is correct, tRump doesn’t plan to leave the power and pomp at the end of his term. Hugs
