Sadly the truth is boring.
One of the four astronauts in that crew suffered from an un-named ‘medical issue’ that could not be managed on-board the ISS. could be illness, could be an injury, could be something else…
They’re sending all four back down like 2 weeks early because if they just sent the one, it would be a HIPAA violation: identifying the patient.
now we know it’s just one of four people but that’s sufficient to avoid HIPAA penalties.
The things you learn when you’ve had to pass 4 different HIPAA training exams because you’re working for IT with a group affiliated with a hospital, a university and two different Health Care companies on a program that deals with detailed PHI for thousands of patients on Medicare.
There were times I could recite actual sections of the law from memory …

Yeah. I got that, too, from the story, but many people would never think of that, and possibly panic a bit. Thanks, BDR, for making sure there is clarity on this!
