  1. A few years ago, in Western Washington, we spent a few rare minutes watching a hawk (probably a red tailed hawk) on the ground, in that pose as he eyed a murder of crows surrounding him. There must have been 5 or 6 crows. I assumed that he had just caught an unfortunate mouse and was assessing his chances of getting away without losing his lunch..
