China wont destroy Taiwan per say.   They will blockade it and take it over destroying the democratic government.  China wants control over the entire area and all those in it.  Ideally they want control over the entire world, but so does the US.  The question becomes does the US and the world care about democracy as they use to say they did or not?   We can see with the situation in Ukraine which is a democracy being threatened by a dictatorship that presents itself as a pretend democracy that the world really is not as forceful on the subject as they once were.

Misleading right wing media cartoons / memes

What is really funny is the idea that tRump would know what was a server and what was a copier.    This goes back to the filing by Durham which was nothing new but is an attempt to investigate the investigators thing to find something to negate the findings in the Russia / tRump probe.

This is pure bull.  The truckers were allowed to interrupt the economy and society for two weeks and some.  I am all for a protest, but not for shutting down peoples lives and stopping normal activities of a large portion of the city for weeks, disrupting the home life and families  of people not even involved.

The GOP’s Durham ‘bombshell’ is a bust

Even though Durham never directly said in his motion that Clinton coordinated a campaign to “spy” on Trump through Joffe, The New York Times noted, conservatives have been quick to draw such conclusions, accusing liberal media of being biased for not covering the alleged scandal.

Fox News on Tuesday also noted the amount of media coverage the alleged scandal had thus far received by ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, CNN, and MSNBC. According to Fox News Research, all of these channels have respectively dedicated “0 minutes.”

https://www.rawstory.com/durham-investigation-2656679054/

The researchers were not “spying” on the Trump campaign in 2016 but were instead working at the request of federal officials to investigate Russian malware attacks that had targeted the U.S. government and the White House, said Jody Westby, a lawyer for one of the research scientists involved, David Dagon of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The U.S. was on high alert at the time after the hacking of Democratic National Committee emails by Russian operatives. The data at issue was from the time Obama, not Trump, was in the White House, according to Westby.

“They were simply doing … research of Russian attacks against U.S. entities, including the federal government,” Westby said, adding, “The motion is unfortunate because it offers a lot of confusing information that is not factually accurate.”

The statistics show that the returns on investments by people in congress is much higher than the general public’s returns. Now that implies that congress uses their knowledge and regulatory ability to create personal gain. It sure seems that for a lot of elected officials, they see the office as a golden lotto ticket to personal wealth. The days of public service and helping the people seems to be long gone. Their should be some sacrifice to serving the public, it should be for the country, not for enriching oneself or personal power.

So anyone who wins an elected office should have to place all stocks in blind trusts managed by a reputable company and no office holder may direct the purchase of sale of any individual stock. That goes for family members in the same household. I would also deal with the legalized bribe system called lobbying. The system has become a way for the well off to bribe the office holders and shut out the voices of the public.

The only complaint I have about the cartoon is it is bias and misleading. It makes it seem as if only one party is doing the stock trading. In fact both parties are and both parties have people ignoring the legalities of filing required forms about their finances and stocks. The majority of elected offices have been filled by wealthy people seeking to increase their own wealth at the expense of the people and the needs of the country.

Is this the start! Just as US intel reported Russia would do

This is what I was talking about last night. The next 72-120 hours are critical.

Everything is essentially in place that Putin could go whenever he wants.

Reports out of Russia are that he’s preparing a statement to read to the Russian Federal Assembly.

Originally tweeted by Angry Staffer (@Angry_Staffer) on February 17, 2022.

They also demanded that the US remove all military equipment from central and eastern Europe, and threatened a “military-technical response” if demands aren’t met.

Oh, and Putin wants a pet dragon and some fairy dust.

Pro-Russian forces are desperately trying to draw fire from Ukraine — they’re clearly trying to elicit a response that would give them a “reason” to invade.

Oh, so the Ukrainian Army just happened to start mortaring pro-separatists *right* as the Russian Army got into their final firing positions and desperately needed a casus belli?

How very convenient.

And by convenient, I obviously mean complete bullshit

Originally tweeted by Angry Staffer (@Angry_Staffer) on February 17, 2022.

Yep.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see an attack begin tonight — or at least in the next couple of days.

Seems to me the government of Canada is winning this situation not the truckers.   The government has blocked the truckers funding, the government cleared the bridge, the government has the authority now to yank the commercial licenses, and the authority to seize the trucks.

Because the report on tRump clogging toilets and ripping up papers is collaborated.   The Durham fantasy about Hillary is just a conspiracy rehash of spin attempts to validate tRump’s claim that the Mueller investigation was illegal.   Durham did not file charges in his new filing, there was no new information.  He is trying to charge the guy who provided the information to the FBI with lying to the FBI because he did not tell the FBI he once worked for Hillary and the FBI did not ask.  The FBI did not ask him that, so how is not telling them a lie?   Every lawyer I have heard on this says it is going to be laughed out of court if it ever gets to one.  Durham made a 26 page report on a filing that should have been half a page.  All so he could spin a misleading right wing tale.

Lisa Benson Comic Strip for February 12, 2022

What we are witnessing is PRICE GOUGING, NOT INFLATION.

INFLATION is when business owners raise prices commensurate with higher costs to make ends meet.

But when corporations are reporting record all-time profits, raising prices is NOT INFLATION, it is PRICE GOUGING to capitalize on supply chain disruptions caused by a national emergency.

McDonald’s profits soared 59% in 2021, to $7.5 billion.

ExxonMobil reported a $8.9 billion in profits in the FOURTH QUARTER ALONE, while it was jacking up prices to new records.

Numerous other companies jacked up prices while raking in record profits in 2021.

Donald Trump crashed the economy, destroyed the supply chain, blew up international trade relations by imposing ridiculous tariffs that hurt farmers and consumers, mishandled a pandemic that exploded into a worldwide economic crisis and now as Biden is putting people back, restoring consumer confidence, which stimulates demand, but the devastation wrought by Trump on the supply chain is taking longer to undo, especially as anti-science right wing nut jobs continue to undermine recovery from the Trump plague.

If there were a hurricane, tornado, flood or wildfire and vendors were charging $20 for a bottle of water, they would be arrested. We need to see some of the corporate heads who have tripled their profits on the backs of consumers being frog-marched into the Big House.

Truth is not important. Smear, innuendo, and outright lies are necessary to outrage and disinform the public. This is the way to absolute power.

Amazing that after 30 years she is still their biggest boogieman. The right trots her out any time they need to deflect or distract knowing she is an easy way to enrage the base. The Durham filing added no new information. It was a screed of conspiracies designed to distract from a serious issue tRump has. Lawyers have publicly said the filing should have been half a page but Durham went on for 26 pages just to spin a misinformation tale. The crux of what Durham charged Michael Sussmann with is lying to the FBI by not answering a question the FBI never asked. Yes that is right, the FBI never asked him if he worked for Hillary as it was not important. It is going to be laughed out of court if it ever gets to one. Sussmann took information from some tech people on a bank from Moscow associated with Putin contacting a dedicated server in tRump Tower. He did not give them his life story, why would he. ‘Don’t put handcuffs on!’: The aftermath of a 6-year-old’s arrest

Watchdog: Trump Cabinet Member Flouted Ethics Rules

The Washington Post reports:

While serving as Interior Department secretary under Donald Trump, Ryan Zinke broke federal ethics rules repeatedly by improperly participating in real estate negotiations with the chairman of the energy giant Halliburton at the time and other developers, according to a government official with knowledge of an inspector general investigation to be released Wednesday.

Interior Department IG Mark Greenblatt found that while Zinke was in office, he sent dozens of emails and text messages, held phone calls and met in his office with developers to discuss the design of a large commercial and residential development in his hometown of Whitefish, Mont. Now a leading candidate to win a newly-drawn congressional seat in Montana, Zinke also lied to an agency ethics official who questioned him about his involvement in the negotiations.

Congressman echoes Trump’s claim that Clinton aides deserved to die

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/feb/14/us-congressman-jim-jordan-echoes-trump-clinton-aides-executed

Jim Jordan’s statement on Fox News is another example of violent rhetoric entering the Republican mainstream, analysts say

Congressman Jim Jordan.

Anti-hate speech activists have condemned the Republican US congressman Jim Jordan for his apparent endorsement of Donald Trump’s declaration that members of Hillary Clinton’s campaign staff should have been executed.

Jordan asserted on Fox & Friends that the former president was “right on target” when he accused Clinton’s aides of spying on him, and that in another time in US history their “crime would have been punishable by death”.

But the position of the Ohio rightwinger and fierce Trump loyalist, who is resisting efforts from a congressional committee to explain his own role in the deadly 6 January Capitol riot that Trump incited, serves only to stoke further the country’s volatile political divisions and promote more violence, the groups say.

“Trump and Jordan are escalating tensions at a time when this country sorely needs healing,” Michael Edison Hayden, senior investigative journalist with the Southern Poverty Law Center’s intelligence project, told the Guardian.

“Couple those words with Marjorie Taylor Greene’s statements about breaking apart the country and you can pretty easily see how integrated the extreme far-right fringe has become in the contemporary Republican party.

“Some of these politicians sound more like 8chan posters, or Daily Stormer commenters, than leaders,” he added.

Trump, who continues to promote the baseless “big lie” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him, even as he mulls another run for the White House in 2024, was no stranger to inciting his supporters to violence, or the threat of it, long before the attack on the US Capitol that claimed five lives.

During his four years in the White House he failed to condemn white supremacists at a rally in Charlottesville, in which a protester was murdered, insisting there were “very fine people on both sides”.

During the first presidential debate with Joe Biden in 2020, Trump urged the extremist Proud Boys, notorious for street brawls, to “stand back and stand by” during a segment on political violence. And he told the 6 January rioters “we love you” in a video address after they ransacked the Capitol building.

In linking the specter of execution to campaign workers for Clinton, a familiar target of his ire despite his victory over her in the 2016 election, Trump is blowing on a familiar dog whistle, some analysts say. And politicians such as Jordan endorsing or amplifying his words merely continue to ingrain violence into the political mainstream, they add.

“The bottom line is that people pay attention to what is being said in the public square, whether it’s sitting presidents, former presidents, or other elected officials,” said Oren Segal, vice-president for the Anti Defamation League’s center on extremism.

“[We’re] in a time where we are seeing extremists feel that their agendas are legitimized. Any language that normalizes violence is simply dangerous.”

Jordan appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss a filing by justice department special investigator John Durham, a Trump appointee, that alleged operatives paid by the Clinton campaign had accessed White House servers in an effort to “dig up dirt”.

“In a stronger period of time in our country, this crime would have been punishable by death,” Trump’s statement said, in part.

During the Fox interview, Jordan was not asked directly about Trump’s allusion to executions, but over the weekend he retweeted a Fox News article about it that included the “punishable by death” comments in full.

“We’ve never seen anything like this in history,” Jordan said. “So President Trump’s statement is right on target. This is truly unprecedented, truly something that has never happened in the history of our great country.”

To Segal, the episode is a further example of extremism masquerading as mainstream.

“That sort of language about people should be put to death, or that there should be violent consequences to people’s actions, is quite common among extremist circles. It’s the lifeblood of social media, the propaganda we see in so many different spaces,” he said.

“And yet it’s not just limited to extremist discussions online, it’s now part of the public discussion amplified by elected officials. This is why it is so dangerous. It’s no longer fringe commentary that one would expect, it’s part of the broader public discussion, which only serves to animate the extremes more.”

Just so you understand the Durham filing did not say that Hillary’s campaign had anything to do with hacking in to the WH nor tRump tower.  It was a 26 page conspiracy tale of stuff designed to give the right wing some talking points to change the conversation from tRump shredding papers, taking classified papers to Mar-a-Largo, and his long term accounting firm saying his financial filings were untrustworthy.

New Ad Hits DeSantis On “Don’t Say Gay” Bill [VIDEO]

Florida Politics reports:

Equality Florida is launching a new, two-part ad campaign to address GOP legislative priorities the group says target — and could potentially harm — marginalized students, including those within the LGBTQ community.

One proposal (SB 1834, HB 1557), dubbed by critics as the “don’t say gay” bill, would closely regulate LGBTQ instruction in the classroom and conversations with younger students.

The other legislation targeted by the ad campaign is SB 148 and HB 7, referred to proponents as an “Individual Freedom” bill, seeks to ban required discussions and lessons in classrooms and workplaces of subjects Republicans contend are meant to “indoctrinate” cultural guilt in students and employees.

From Equality Florida:

“Not since the days of Anita Bryant have we seen such craven attempts by a leader to build political power by targeting and demonizing LGBTQ people,” said Nadine Smith, Equality Florida Executive Director.

“Governor DeSantis is pushing legislation to curb free speech, propagandize school curriculums, and monitor classroom conversations, private workplaces, and doctor’s offices — all in order to outflank Donald Trump to the right and build an onramp to run for President in 2024. As a parent of a 10 year-old, these bills fail to protect my child and our family. It is a tool for the state to censor and that encourages lawsuits against schools as a means of intimidation.”

The Don’t Say Gay bill (HB1557/SB1834) and the Stop WOKE Act (HB7/SB148) are being fastracked through the legislature, despite overwhelming opposition from the state’s largest parents group, the PTA; child welfare and medical experts; and from educators who warn of the chilling effect and chaotic implications of the broadly written bills.

Each bill would censor speech in classrooms across the state, effectively erasing large swaths of American history and society. While designed to fuel the governor’s political ambitions, both bills have profound impacts on LGBTQ people.
