The number of married same-sex couples in the U.S. is at an all-time high

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/12/number-married-sex-couples-u-s-time-high/

This is what the right wing religious bigots are desperate to stop.ย  ย As more people become comfortable with same sex marriages and as more same sex couples get married with none of the horrible things happening that the rabid religious claimed such as no straight couples getting married.ย  ย They are too late with same sex marriage except in a few rabid red area.ย  That is why they are desperate to attack trans kids / drag queens and get the growing acceptance of them stopped before that is too late for them to stop also.ย  ย Keep the kids from understanding that their peers who are gay and trans are just kids like them then they grow up possible bigots who have to learn acceptance as adults when it is much harder.ย  ย They attack drag queens because they have become so popular that it worries the fundamentalist religious horribly.ย  They are desperate to stop the advances in society that is leaving their regressive way of living behind.ย  ย Think of it this way, just as the Amish / Mennonites couldn’t handle the changes in society and prefer to live in the 1800s, so the Christian fundamentalist cannot handle the modern society and want to live in the 1900s.ย  The problem is the Christian fundamentalist are attempting to force the rest of us to live as they demand also.ย  ย If they would just go live in their own regressive lives no one would care. but they are demanding to rule over the rest of us who don’t agree with them.ย  ย Hugs

Over 1.2 million same-sex couple households exist within the United States, according to recently released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The data also showed that there are more married same-sex couples living in the U.S. than ever before, which makes sense considering that marriage equality was only legalized nationwide in 2015.

The data comes from the American Community Survey (ACS), an annual survey sent to nearly 3.5 million households across the nation. The ACS collects demographic information to provide a comprehensive, ongoing view of the U.S. public.

ACS data shows that the number of same-sex households in the U.S. has steadily increased from approximately 540,000 in 2008 to 980,000 in 2019, and then to 1.2 million in 2021 โ€“ a more than 122 percent increase from 2008 to 2021.

From 2008 to 2015, ACS data showed that the number of households with unmarried same-sex couples in the U.S. was consistently higher than the number of households with married same-sex couples. This is hardly surprising considering that only 16 states had legalized same-sex marriage before 2014.

However, every year since 2016, the ACS has reported the number of households with married same-sex couples has surpassed the number of households with unmarried same-sex couples.

In 2021, the ACS counted around 500,000 households of unmarried same-sex couples. Interestingly, this is about the same number as was counted by the ACS in 2013. Also in 2021, the ACS counted over 700,000 households with married same-sex couples in the U.S. โ€” an all-time high.

ACS data also showed that 31.6 percent of same-sex married couples were interracial, compared to just 18.4 percent of married couples,ย according toย The Washington Blade.

While 29.6 percent of unmarried same-sex couples both had bachelorโ€™s degrees, only 18.1 percent of unmarried opposite-sex couples held the same degrees.

The data also showed that while the average age of same-sex married couples was 48.9 years, the average age of opposite-sex married couples was 52.8 years. Comparatively, the average age of same-sex unmarried couples was 42 years while the average age of opposite-sex unmarried couples was 39.9 years.

Trans Porn Rose 75% In Popularity This Year on Pornhub

Trans-related porn is exploding at the same time trans rights are under fierce attack.ย

Itโ€™s the most wonderful time of the year, when that company with an unfathomable amount of access to everyoneโ€™s personal data yassifies the numbers into a cute end-of-year roundup complete with charts and graphics. No, not Spotify Wrapped โ€” weโ€™re talking about theย Pornhub Year in Review. And this year, itโ€™s been reported that trans porn exploded in popularity, even as trans sex workers are increasingly losing access to the tools they need to survive and transphobia as a whole is increasing nationwide.ย

In 2022, porn under the โ€œtransgenderโ€ category increased in popularity by 75% to become the 7th most popular category worldwide and the 3rd most popular in the U.S., according to the tube siteโ€™s report. In addition, โ€œFTMโ€ searches were eight times more popular than โ€œMTFโ€ searches. And men viewed videos tagged as โ€œtransโ€ 22% more than women. However, women on โ€œstraightโ€ Pornhub viewed the โ€œtrans maleโ€ sub-category 115% more than men, lest we think that being a chaser is only limited to one gender or sexuality. Pornhub even noted that the most searched-for gender identities were โ€œnon binary,โ€ โ€œgender xโ€ (whatever that means) and โ€œandrogynous.โ€

Interestingly, Pornhub appears to aggregate its data for PornhubGay totally separately, and not by gender. Over on PornhubGay, searches for โ€œFTMโ€ grew 202%, becoming the 20th of the top 20 gay searches, whereas it didnโ€™t rank last year.

ย

Trans pornโ€™s popularity appears to be in keeping with the general trends of the past few years.ย Last year, searches for โ€œtransโ€ grew 141%, with views of the trans category growing by 23%. In 2017, Pornhub also published aย reportย specifically on the popularity of trans porn; for the most part, and for better or worse, it found that the popularity of trans porn has been steadily increasing since the mid-2010s.ย

This particular bump in the popularity of trans porn, in addition to last yearโ€™s growth, is of course happening at the same time that lawmakers have introduced the highest number of anti-trans andย general anti-LGBTQ+ billsย in history. That these two occurrences are simultaneous is probably no coincidence. Last year, an Alabama republican lawmaker who voted to criminalize doctors who provide minors with transition-related healthcare was caughtย liking trans pornย on Twitter. And aย studyย from Lawsuit.org additionally found that Google users in Republican states are overwhelmingly responsible for the popularity of certain trans-related porn search terms, like โ€œshemaleโ€ and โ€œtranny.โ€ย

But this data also likely comes as a slap in the face to trans sex workers, who are facing an increasingly precarious future. In August, Visa and Mastercard announced that it would beย suspending payment processingย for the ad-buying arm of Mindgeek, the parent company that owns Pornhub, making it much harder for Mindgeek sites to generate revenue and in turn cutting off a revenue stream for the sexworkers who use it. That followed Mastercardโ€™sย 2021 rule changes, which stated that the payment processing company could suspend users at any time for selling content that violates its vague rules. That rule change led to OnlyFansโ€™ controversial decision toย ban adult content, although that decision was later reversed.ย

These legal charges against Pornhub have largely been led by theย Traffickinghubย campaign, which was founded in partnership with the Evangelical Christian groupย Exodus Cry.ย And although the goal of protecting children from trafficking and grooming seems to be an admirable one, the vast majority of child exploitation actually happens on Facebook, with aย Daily Beastย sreport finding that the site recorded 20.3 million reported incidents related to child pornography or trafficking in 2020. By comparison, MindGeek reported 13,229. As the rhetoric of the current anti-trans movement shows, โ€œprotecting childrenโ€ is usually just a smokescreen for something far more unsavory.ย

Since trans people are far more likely than cis people to rely on sex work for income, these issues disproportionately affect trans workers. And while you could make some pithy jokes about Americaโ€™s Freudian obsession with trans people, the reality is that trans sex workers remain some of the most vulnerable in our community.ย

How Drag Artists Became the Far Right’s Ultimate Villains

https://www.them.us/story/drag-gop-right-wing-attacks-explained

I wonder if the far right republican fascist hate drag because it is the opposite of what they are.ย  ย Drag is about exploring boundaries, about expressing yourself, about color and fun.ย  What is authoritarian fascism about?ย  doing what you are told, stay in the line, don’t be an individual, don’t be colorful, always fit nicely in the boxes.ย  Hugs

Over the past year, the sense of safety and joy experienced at drag performances has been punctured and replaced.

โ€œBaby, youโ€™re a plaaaaaaastic bag,โ€ย sings the drag queen Per Sia, parodying Katy Perryโ€™s โ€œFireworkโ€ as reusable tote bags sail around a usually-silent library in San Francisco. The children around her delight in the chaos, hanging on to Siaโ€™s every word. Between sermons on the importance of reducing plastic and loving yourself, the kids leap up, grab the floating tote bags, and begin to dance. Their bodies wiggle with glee as they experience the joy โ€” costumes! music! dance! โ€” of drag.ย

The scene would be familiar to any kindergarten teacher: โ€œItโ€™s the play and pleasure of reading time, but dialed up a few notches,โ€ says Harper Keenan, a Professor of Education and Pedagogy at the University of British Columbia. Keenan is referring toย Drag Story Hour, events where drag performers read, sing, and make crafts with children in schools, libraries, and bookstores across the country.ย

Sia, who isย an elementary school teacher, says that when she began performing for Drag Story Hours, โ€œwe would walk into schools and get treated like royalty.โ€ Initially the opportunity to integrate her expertise in early childhood education with drag was a dream come true. It was a chance to embody her full humanity and show students that a world existed in which they could unapologetically be themselves, too.

ย

Over the past year, however, that sense of safety and joy has been punctured and replaced with a miasma of fear and danger. A year ago, a sizeable backlash against the art form seemed an improbability, but this year, threats against drag performances across the country, including Drag Story Hours, haveย increased in number and hostility.ย Inย Oklahoma, a donut shop was fire-bombed for the second time this year after hosting a drag performance. Inย Nevada, a man identified as a member of the Proud Boys, a white nationalist group, interrupted a Drag Story Hour reading with a gun, forcing the children in attendance to flee for safety. And inย California, a group of eight Proud Boys stormed into a library where drag performer Panda Dulce was reading to children. The men made white power hand gestures and hurtled homophobic and transphobic comments at Dulce, who was rushed out of the room, along with the children. According to several parents in attendance, the far-right protesters were traumatizing the children they claimed to want to protect.ย

These are just some specific examples of a worsening trend. This already-horrific year, which saw at least 124 significant threats and protests against drag performances,ย according to a November report from GLAAD, was punctuated by immense tragedy on November 19, when a shooter killed five people during aย โ€œDrag Divasโ€ nightย at Club Q in Colorado Springs. An art form that has provided LGBTQ+ people a sense of community for decades has been weaponized against them, and has forced drag queens to question what safety means in a culture intent on causing them harm.ย

Per Sia courtesy of the artist.

Per Sia, courtesy of the artist.

The current string of attacksย againstย drag performers is part of a broader movement by the far-right to demonize LGBTQ+ people, including by claiming they are โ€œgroomersโ€ and โ€œpedophiles,โ€ and therefore a threat to young children. Across the media landscape, from Fox News host Tucker Carlson to the far-right podcast InfoWars, conservative pundits are increasingly perpetuating the dangerous, harmful lie that proximity to drag queens and trans and nonbinary people increases the likelihood of child abuse.ย

ย

Accounts likeย Libs of TikTok, a conservative social media account that has become notorious for anti-queer and anti-drag rhetoric,ย post videosย making fun of LGBTQ+ people and drag performers without context or consent. The video has also been caught posting doctored videos that make it seem as if drag queens areย performing sexually in front of children, even if the videos are blatantly false. Criminal investigators even believe thatย Libs of TikTokย may have provoked the Proud Boys attack on Drag Story Hour in California. In a segment from October, Carlson, who has been a vocal supporter of the social media account, called on his three million nightly viewers to โ€œarmโ€ themselves against drag performers. This messaging has been dangerously effective: according to the Human Rights Campaign, there was aย 406% increaseย in tweets using โ€œgroomerโ€ or โ€œpedophileโ€ in the first six months of 2022. Tragically, there has been accompanying escalation ofย attacksย on drag performers during the same period.ย

โ€œThe LGBTQ+ community is constantly at the whim of disinformation and misinformation,โ€ activist Raquel Willisย wroteย on Instagram the day after the Colorado Springs shooting. โ€œHateful politicians craft dangerous narratives about us and encourage the general public to continue to do the same. Ignorance is disgusting AF and we need to be vigilant about confronting it.โ€ย ย

As Willis notes, these in-person acts of violence are often stoked โ€” and, in some cases,ย engineeredย โ€” by far-right politicians. Florida Governor Ron Desantisย has statedย that parents who bring children to drag shows should be investigated for child abuse. Florida Senator Marco Rubio even featured Lil Miss Hot Mess, a member of Drag Story Hour, in aย reelection campaign videoย in which he claimed that the โ€œradical leftโ€ seeks to โ€œindoctrinate children and turn boys into girls.โ€ These politicians foster a climate of fear in which hatred and misinformation proliferates.ย

However, as many drag performers are quick to point out, this rhetoric obscures the fact that gender identity and drag are distinct, though sometimes overlapping, categories. Both cisgender men and transgender women, for example, can do drag. Crucially, though, โ€œdrag generally refers to a kind of consciously artistic performance intended for an audience. In contrast, trans people do not seek primarily to entertain,โ€ wrote Keenan and Lilโ€™ Miss Hot Mess inย a June 2021 academic articleย about Drag Story Hour.ย

According to Keenan, though, violence against drag queensย isย rooted in transmisogyny, or the intersection of transphobia and misogyny as experienced by trans women and transfeminine people. In videos such as Rubioโ€™s, the phrase โ€œturning boys into girlsโ€ exemplifies this trans and femme-phobic line of attack, and the underlying truth that the far-rightโ€™s goal is not simply to stop all-ages drag performances. It is to exploit transphobia for political points, no matter the cost to human life.ย

In a year in whichย over 300 state billsย have been introduced to curb LGBTQ+ student and teacher rights, whatโ€™s become clear is that a rising right-wing moral panic against LGBTQ+ people โ€” including smearing drag performers as groomers, nonbinary children as mentally ill, and gender-affirming healthcare providers as pedophiles โ€” has ensnared the drag community. Today, after Club Q, itโ€™s become increasingly clear that this rhetoric has concrete, real-world ramifications.ย

โ€œIt’s the scariest itโ€™s ever been. I fear for my safety, even when Iโ€™m not doing Story Hour,โ€ said Sia. The attacks have leftย many drag performersย feeling torn between doing what they love and subjecting themselves to the possibility of violence, leading some drag queens to pause or stop their performances altogether. Programmers at oneย San Antonio music venue, were forced to cancel an entire season of drag performances due to violent threats. In North Carolina, when the power went out during a drag performance,ย performers saidย their immediate instinct was to listen for gunfire.ย ย

Paradoxically, some experts believe that the far-right has taken such extreme steps against drag performancesย because drag has become so popular.ย The visibility of shows such asย RuPaulโ€™s Drag Race, drag brunches, and online drag personalities have enabled performers to share their unique vision of liberationโ€”and millions of people have found that vision appealing.ย

ย

Drag Story Hours and family brunches, in particular, have helped LGBTQ+ youth feel accepted and seen. Keenan notes the surprising number of straight parents among attendees of drag story hours and brunches nationwide. โ€œTheyโ€™re looking for resources,โ€ he says, to provide their children with a LGBTQ+ affirming space that they may not know how to cultivate at home. It is a chance to move past the rigid expectations of gender they were raised with, and offer their children something new.

All of this visibility comes at a cost. It has drawn attention to some of the most vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community, such as the trans, queer, and femme people of color who pioneered the โ€œiconicโ€ dance moves and looks we now associate with drag, without protection. โ€œIf what you really want is to target queerness and transness, then drag is a huge part of that. It’s a visible celebration of culture,โ€ said the attorney Chase Strangio in a recent interview withย The Atlantic.

Indeed, in the midst of escalating fear and violence,ย drag performances continue to offer a unique form of celebration as resistance. This impulse toward new worlds was on full display during a recent prom for LGBTQ+ youth in Birmingham, Alabama. During the drag portion of the night, performer Sharon Cocx unexpectedly stopped in the middle of her set.ย

โ€œYou can be anything you want to be. You can be president, you can change the world,โ€ she told the crowd. After such a difficult year in the state โ€” Alabama has passed some of the strictest anti-trans legislation in the country โ€” it was a cathartic moment of release for the directly-impacted teens there. According to several people who attended the event, many were in tears by the end of the speech. This is dragโ€™s unique power: to challenge the conditions of the present, and embody a longed-for future.ย

The day after the attack in San Lorenzo,ย Per Sia had a performance a few miles away in Piedmont, CA. When she arrived at the library, half a dozen police officers were outside with their sirens on, โ€œwhich was triggering in and of itself,โ€ she said. Since many performers, like Sia, are queer people of color, the presence of police at performances can feel like a compounding of the violence they face, not an alleviation of it. As a result, organizers across the country have created safety plans rooted in abolitionist frameworks. These plans seek to keep children and performers safe without involving the police.ย

ย

As Sia entered the library, several staff members walked her through a hastily developed safety plan, which Sia had never experienced before. They walked up a claustrophobic flight of stairs. โ€œIf anything happens, I will bring you up here,โ€ the librarian said, โ€œThen go down this hall and hide under that desk. If anything happens, do not come out until you hear my voice.โ€ In her decades of teaching children and performing drag, it was unlike anything Sia had experienced before. It was terrifying in a visceral, cruel way.ย

โ€œIt was a hard pill to swallow,โ€ she said, โ€œbut queer folks are resilient. We have always had to fight for our basic needs to be met, and simply to exist.โ€ The performance took place in the libraryโ€™s parking lot during a cloudless, blue summer day. The sunlight streamed over Sia as she read to the jam-packed crowd, who hung on her every word. Many had come to support Drag Story Hour in response to the previous dayโ€™s violence. โ€œIt was beautiful,โ€ she said. โ€œIt really, really was.โ€ ย ย

Libs Of TikTok Creator: DeSantis Offered Me Protection – JMG

โ€œWhen I was doxxed, someone from Ron DeSantisโ€™s team called me. She said, โ€˜The governor wanted me to give you a message. If you donโ€™t feel safe, if you need a place to go, to hide, to stay, you can come to the governorโ€™s mansion.โ€™

โ€œShe said, โ€˜We have a guest house for you, and you can stay as long as you need. I was almost in tears. He took time out of his extremely busy schedule to send someone to call me to make sure Iโ€™m safe.

โ€œIt was incredible, I donโ€™t even have the words for it.โ€ โ€“ Chaya Raichik, creator of the Twitter account LibsOfTikTok.

Buzzfeed Newsย reports:

Raichik began posting content denigrating liberals on her personal social media accounts around April of 2020, but rebranded as Libs of TikTok a year later.

Raichik started by poking fun at Anthony Fauci, the countryโ€™s chief medical advisor at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Then she started spouting hate toward Black victims of police violence before repeatedly depicting queer and trans people as predators who endangered children.

Yesterday Raichik described LGBTQ people as members of an โ€œevil cultโ€ dedicated to grooming children.

Her so-called doxxing was merely being named by theย Washington Postย as the person behind the account that has incited violent and often armed extremists to protest outside of LGBTQ events.

Itโ€™s likely that the DeSantis flack who reached out to her was the viciously anti-LGBTQ Christina Pushaw, who was his spokesperson at the time.

When you have a Supreme Court that has made it clear it’s okay to declare open season on LGBT people, this is the result.

I would add that the WaPo article identified her using publicly available information.

Itโ€™s really something, the way social media has helped make psychopaths and grifters more successful than they ever could have been in any previous era.

On WHAT does this evil bitch BASE anything she says but her own vile bigotry?! What gives her ANY authority or credibility to speak on ANY issue, let alone to slander, denounce, and DEMONIZE whole groups of people based on NOTHING but LIES and her malicious FEELINGS?! Why do theย seriousย media refuse, in their role as the “Guardians of Democracy,” to call out and DENOUNCE the right-wing media for spreadingย hate propaganda, for indulging inย stochastic terrorism?!ย Because that’s ALL this is, and it has NO PLACE in ANY forum that gives it wide exposure in a modern democratic society!

It belongs nowhere but the GUTTER PRESS, which all decent people and all true journalists regard with nothing but CONTEMPT! There is no difference between THIS and giving wide exposure to spokesmen from the KKK or the American Nazi Party! This is the same kind ofย rabid, dehumanizing defamationย the Nazis engaged in against the Jews under Hitler. Those engaged in it and in enabling it, in helping it spread its POISON, should be DENOUNCED by every true journalist in this country, by everyone who holds the truth and the principles of genuine democracy dear!ย That it is NOT denounced, and roundly, is a clear sign of advanced decadence, of societal ROT!

Fox Noise is the gutter press and what gives her authority is the Old Testament.

I never thought after the gains we’ve made in civil rights that we would slide backward so fast and without anything being done to these thugs. Find the shit on this bitch and all the other ones who would give her a voice.

The folks in DeSantis Country can’t wait to get to you, Chaya, after they finish with the people you hate too.

Typical. She labels innocent people as “groomers” but makes herself out to be the victim.

Then she started spouting hate toward Black victims of police violence before repeatedly depicting queer and trans people as predators who endangered children.

Yesterday Raichik described LGBTQ people as members of an โ€œevil cultโ€ dedicated to grooming children.

And THIS BITCH is Jewish!

Did she complain about the fact that DeSantis’s state party is full of open neonazis? As in, not just fascists, but Holocaust deniers. No? Didn’t think so.

You know, I grew up never trusting authority figures… including anyone involved in politics. And throughout the years, I’ve tried to mellow my views on that. But, boy-o-boy, I never thought we’d see elected officials sink this fucking low. I mean, it was one thing when they just completely ignored the AIDS crisis, but now elected Republicans are openly, gleefully, and without any blowback, ginning up maniacs to go out and murder us. And the elected officials on the left just kinda go, “Man, this awful. I’ll write a strongly worded kumbaya tweet about this, and that’ll be my due diligence.”

Starting its four-night Florida tour, โ€˜A Drag Queen Christmasโ€™ triggers state investigation

The Fort Lauderdale show at the Broward Center was the first of four performances around the state.

The 2022 Florida debut of โ€œA Drag Queen Christmasโ€ in Fort Lauderdale has triggered a state investigation, according to a tweet from the account of Gov.ย Ron DeSantisโ€™ย Press Secretary.

The show went on in Miamiโ€™sย James L. Knight Centerย Tuesday night โ€” with limited tickets still available โ€” and was scheduled to hit the heights in Orlando and Clearwater for successive nights. But it might be coming to the attention of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, according to a statement from the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

DBPR โ€œis aware of multiple complaints about a sexually explicit performance marketed to children held in Fort Lauderdale on December 26. The Department is actively investigating this matter, including video footage and photographs from the event,โ€ said the statement thatย Bryan Griffinย tweeted.

โ€œExposing children to sexually explicit activity is a crime in Florida, and such action violates the Departmentโ€™s licensing standards for operating a business and holding a liquor license.โ€

According to the traveling productionโ€™s website,ย Dragfans.com, the show has been going on for eight years. And, on the siteโ€™s โ€œPast Toursโ€ page, the show has made stops in Florida for five different Christmases, according to the posters displayed there.

ย

The production company says that โ€œall agesโ€ are welcome at its shows, as does the website advertising the Orlando show. But the site listing all the tour stops does say potential patrons might be barred depending onย local regulations.

Miamiโ€™s show, for example, is advertised with the caveat, โ€œAdult content. Recommended for audiences โ€” 18+.ย  Minors must be accompanied by an adult.โ€ In Clearwater, it says that only those older than 18 will be admitted toย Ruth Eckerd Hall for the performance.

Critics of the show tweeted videos showing a full house in the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Monday night. And the Dec. 22 event in Knoxville, Tennessee, was sold out, according to Tennessee state Rep.ย Gloria Johnsonโ€™sย Twitter account.

The controversy is reminiscent of aย July complaint about a drag queen brunchย put on at R House Wynwood after a video surfaced showing a toddler dancing with a drag queen. Statements from Gov.ย Ron DeSantisย indicated the venueโ€™s liquor license was at risk for the same issue.

The current status of the investigation was unavailable Tuesday, but theย restaurantโ€™s websiteย seems to indicate that the drag brunch is still happening Saturday and Sunday with four seatings.

ย

In July, DeSantis saidย his criticism of the drag brunchโ€™s entertainment is part of his fight for Florida to be โ€œwhere kids can be kids.โ€ That includes efforts to pass the Parental Rights in Education law, which more closely regulates schoolhouse discussions.

Libs Of TikTok calls LGBTQ+ people โ€˜evilโ€™ in chilling Fox News interview

With these haters / bigots lying and making things up along with projection is the standard way they do stuff.ย  ย They claim the other side is promoting violence while they get the Proud Boys to attack drag queen events.ย  ย They claim the other side is full of hate while they call the LGBTQ+ evil.ย  Another thing she claims unnamed studies that find parents find they are unable to stop their kids from being trans or non-binary, implying that laws and the left are blocking the wishes of good god loving parents to take care of their kids. The truth is parents cannot stop their kids from being born with a different gender than assigned at birth or being born non-binary but that is how they are when they are born!ย  ย These people who push the idea that people can be converted to a gender are the same people who support the totally debunked idea of conversion therapy for sexual orientation.ย  ย  Hugs

The right has a hot new legal theory to destroy LGBTQ+ rights

https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/12/right-hot-new-legal-theory-destroy-lgbtq-rights/

I would like to point out a couple things from the article.ย  ย Unsurprisingly, conservatives like the ways things looked in the 18th century a lot more than they do today, so originalism has been a handy way of bending the law rightward.ย  ย Also there is this part,ย They include โ€œrespect for the authority of rule and of rulers,โ€ โ€œrespect for the hierarchies needed for society to function,โ€ and most frighteningly, โ€œa candid willingness to โ€˜legislate moralityโ€™โ€”indeed, a recognition that all legislation is necessarily founded on some substantive conception of morality, and that the promotion of morality is a core and legitimate function of authority.โ€ย  ย It is a short informative article describing what the Christian right is willing to do to get to the point that they can tell everyone how to live.ย  Hugs

The Federalist Society โ€“ the right-wing legal group thatย Donald Trump made the selection committee for his judicial appointeesย โ€“ has had a lot of success peeling back LGBTQ+ rights by promoting the doctrine of originalism. Originalism tests laws on the principle of whether the nationโ€™s founders intended the Constitution to be interpreted in a particular way. Unsurprisingly, conservatives like the ways things looked in the 18th century a lot more than they do today, so originalism has been a handy way of bending the law rightward.

The apotheosis of originalism was the Supreme Courtโ€™s decision that overturnedย Roe v. Wade. The majority decision included a tour of legal theory about abortion dating back not just to the founding of this countryย but 13th century England.ย

However, for an increasingly fervent and authoritarian-minded group, originalism is no longer good enough. They want something more direct. Thatโ€™s where a new legal theory, โ€œcommon good constitutionalism,โ€ comes in.

Common good constitutionalism is, in essence, the right wing deciding how to use the law to impose its view of the world on U.S. citizens. Harvard Law Professor Adrian Vermeule, the most prominent advocate for the idea, describes it slightly differently, of course. In a 2020 essay inย The Atlantic, he relies heavily upon the โ€œsubstantive moral principles that conduce to the common good, principles that officials (including, but by no means limited to, judges) should read into the majestic generalities and ambiguities of the written Constitution.โ€

However, that list of principles is, in many ways, antithetical to what many Americans think of as liberty. They include โ€œrespect for the authority of rule and of rulers,โ€ โ€œrespect for the hierarchies needed for society to function,โ€ and most frighteningly, โ€œa candid willingness to โ€˜legislate moralityโ€™โ€”indeed, a recognition that all legislation is necessarily founded on some substantive conception of morality, and that the promotion of morality is a core and legitimate function of authority.โ€

Asย Politicoย points out in a profile of the idea,ย the ramifications are radical: โ€œthe Constitution empowers the government to pursue conservative political ends, even when those ends conflict with individual rights as most Americans understand them.โ€

The theory would allow the right to achieve most of its goals through the courts without worrying about precedent. That includes banning marriage equality outright.

Common good constitutionalism is emerging as a hot idea because some right-wing legal eagles are worried that originalism wonโ€™t be good enough to destroy decades of advances enabled by more liberal courts. They want to jumpstart the revolution now, and they need a legal fig leaf to do it.

While the debate may seem academic, the implications are not. Itโ€™s especially worrisome that the philosophy is popular among a particular segment of young lawyers, particularly conservative Catholics.

โ€œThese are the things that people are talking about in FedSoc chapters all over the place,โ€ one law student from Georgetown Universityt told Politico, using shorthand for the Federalist Society. โ€œI think our generation is a lot more open to it than the older generation.โ€

What turbocharged the debate about common good constitutionalism wasย the Supreme Courtโ€™s ruling inย Bostock v. Clayton County.ย In that case, the majority ruled that an LGBTQ+ employee cannot be fired under federal civil rights law. That decision sent the right into orbit and provided momentum for a theory that would ensure them victory no matter what the law said.

Whether common good constitutionalism supplants originalism remains to be seen. But the idea that it can impose the society it wants through its own interpretation of โ€œthe common goodโ€ is a sign of just how far the right has moved toward authoritarianism. One thing is sure: They will never give up their attempt to eliminate LGBTQ+ rights. Marriage equality would just be the first step.

Texas Paul Issues URGENT Warning Heading into Holiday Season

A lot of the reason this happens in the US is because we teach our kids to fear anyone seeing their bodies.ย  ย Kids in other advanced developed countries are as willing to show themselves to a stranger online hoping it will be a girl / boy they like willing to also show themselves.ย  ย In other countries when the person really behind the scam comes out the kids are upset but they don’t freak out and give the person money or even worse more explicit videos.ย  ย They do not kill themselves.ย  ย  Because they know they can go to the parents and tell them, they know that if their friends do get the videos / pictures because they shared their contacts unknowingly that no one will disown them or freak out.ย  Yes they will get teased but it is not the end of the world.ย  Hell in the US adults are still trying to ban porn like it is the 1950s.ย  ย In the US until the middle to late 1960s it was common for schools that had pools to have the boys swim nude and the girls wear suits often in the pool /pool area at the same time.ย  ย  I have seen the pictures and read the stories.ย  No one cared as it was the custom / tradition before the US got hyper modest and back to being prudish.ย  ย  Here in the US I have read of a rash of kids killing themselves after giving the perpetrator everything they had, hundreds of dollars and including more pictures / videos but they are too scared to tell the parents or let the pictures videos out to their contacts especially if they were gay based.ย  Kids too afraid of their parents seeing their genitalia that they would give a stranger all the money they had and then kill themselves.ย  ย Teens too afraid of their own friends seeing their junk that they are willing to do anything including kill themselves.ย  ย In the US we have taken prudishness and weird anti-sex / anti-genitals to the point it is killing our kids.ย  ย Yet the republicans only focus on stopping any self-enjoyment to force young adults to marry and have more babies just to experience sex.ย  ย As long as it is the correct kind of sex of course.ย  ย  Hugsย

Libs Of TikTok Owner: LGBTQs Are In An โ€œEvil Cultโ€

โ€œThereโ€™s something so unique about โ€” the LGBTQ community has become this cult and itโ€™s so captivating and it pulls people in so strongly unlike anything weโ€™ve ever seen and they brainwash people to join.

โ€œAnd they convince them of all these things and itโ€™s really, really hard to get out of it. Itโ€™s really difficult.

โ€œI think theyโ€™re evil. And sometimes we try to break it down a lot and we discuss why this is happening, whatโ€™s happening, whatever, and I think sometimes the simplest answer is theyโ€™re just evil.

โ€œTheyโ€™re bad people. Theyโ€™re evil people. And they want to groom kids. Theyโ€™re recruiting.โ€ โ€“ Chaya Raichik, owner of LibsOfTikTok, the Twitter account that has spawned violent and armed protests at LGBTQ events.
