Since the 1980s religious leaders in the Christian faith have tried hard to take over state governments, force their church dogma into public schools, and now enshrine religious doctrines in federal laws.   The religious right wants the words Christian to be a legal way to disregard any law or rule they don’t like, giving Christians special privileges they deny any other religion.  I don’t understand their absolute delusion that the US was to be a Christian theocracy?  I don’t understand how they think forcing their religion on everyone is better than democracy?  Hugs.  Scottie

Florida Politics reports:

Bipartisan legislation that could put religious figures in your child’s classroom passed the House by an 89-25 margin, after a spirited debate in which one of the sponsors called herself a “Holy Roller” and said she “casts out devils.”

HB 931, sponsored by Republican Rep. Stan McClain and Democratic Rep. Kim Daniels [photo], would “authorize volunteer school chaplains to provide support, services, and programs to students. Daniels also said the separation of church and state was “intended to keep the state out of the church.”

“I am the opponents of this bill’s worst nightmare,” Daniels continued. “I cast out devils, I pray in tongues, I’m a Holy Roller. But nobody on this floor can ever say I tried to convert you. Jesus is too good to push down anybody’s throats.”

Rep. Kim Daniels, who claims to be an exorcist by trade, first appeared on JMG when she declared that children’s dolls are sometimes possessed by demons.

Prior to her election as a state rep, Daniels led the campaign to defeat Jacksonville’s LGBTQ rights ordinance.

Her bill to place “In God We Trust” signs in all Florida classrooms was approved in 2018.

In 2019, she authored an ultimately failed bill to force Florida schools to offer separate elective courses on the Old and New Testaments.

Daniels, who claims the title of “apostle,” earned national attention last year when an old video was surfaced in which she declared, “I thank God for slavery.”

In the Christian network video below, she explains that her primary role in life is as a “demon buster.”

I grew up in the South Florida of the 80’s and early 90’s. I went to a very progressive elementary school that had open classrooms and self-directed learning and a media center that showed immersive media from all around the world to make kids worldly, kids from many nations and every race, teachers that were openly homosexual and it was known they had a same sex spouse and that was fine. We were taught about the Rosewood Massacre and the truth of the Seminole Wars, the latter even under the locally built chickee hut on the playground.

It is now a completely unrecognizable place to me, and I never want to return even for a visit.

Dallas’s ABC affiliate reports:

A Keller ISD school board member announced on Facebook Sunday she will resign from her position. In a post from her now-deleted page, Sandi Walker wrote she decided to resign as a trustee after prayer and conversations with friends and family. Walker added she was proud of what the board had accomplished in her nearly two years as a member.

Walker was one of two KISD trustees who issued apologies amid controversy about an Evangelist film crew from the Netherlands who was allowed into a school and filmed students without the district’s or parents’ consent. The district confirmed this happened on Feb. 9.

The superintendent says the film crew assured them no students or teachers would be visible in their final product. The district says its lawyers have “directed the film crew to destroy all footage it collected or return it to Keller ISD.”

Again like my last post, evangelical / fundamentalist Christians feel both entitled and driven to push their god / Jesus on everyone else kids in PUBLIC schools.  No one is saying the families that want a religious life can not have one.   Of course they can, but they can not force it on other people’s kids.  They can do it in their homes, in their churches, even in public they can show their religion.  They just can not grab kids from other families and force them to go to church or other ceremonies.  But as their power and numbers decline, as young people reject their message of hate and bigotry, instead of changing their plan is to force indoctrinate other people’s children.  The goal is to convince more kids to “Turn to god and hate others who are different”.   Hugs.  Scottie

Florida Politics reports:

The three Rs (reading, writin’, and arithmetic) are slated to have a new addition soon in public schools: religion. The Senate legislation (SB 1044) is slated to be heard in Tuesday morning’s Appropriations Committee on Education.

That bill, sponsored by Sen. Erin Grall, would “authorize volunteer school chaplains to provide support, services, and programs to students as assigned by the district school board or charter school governing board.”

“Parents must be permitted to select a volunteer school chaplain from the list provided by the school district, which must include the chaplain’s religious affiliation, if any,” the bill reads.

A similar law has already been approved in Texas, where it is spearheaded by an avowed Christian nationalist who once worked for an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

Republican state Sen. Erin Grall has appeared here in recent weeks for her bill to ban minors from social media.

Last year Grall appeared here for her bill that would require rape victims to show proof of having been raped in order to qualify for an abortion exception.

Grall that same month authored a bill that would fine trans people $10,000 for using the “wrong” public restroom.

WTAF? Sectarian chaplains have no more place in Florida’s public schools than sectarian prayer does. Florida’s government has simply ceased to do anything useful for the state, and is now reduced to “messing with it.” Some Christian parents may be pleased with this bill, but I can’t think that non-Christian parents, or their children, will be happy. As they stood together near Keller ISD’s Central High School on Friday, a group of parents shared their anger and frustration. “I’m livid,” said Laney Hawes, a parent whose child attends Central HS. “Our rights and our kids rights have been violated.” Their anger stems from what the district confirmed happened last Friday, February 9.

Sandi Walker, a school board trustee brought an Evangelical-based film crew into the high school to conduct interviews with her. Multiple students and parents told WFAA children were filmed and interviewed by the production crew without their consent. Trustee Micah Young was also involved in the filming.

Evangelische Omroep (EO), a Netherlands-based Evangelical broadcast television network previously produced the documentary: ‘God, Jesus, Trump.’ Elliot Mullaney, a freshman at Central High School said he witnessed the filming take place during his lunch hour.

I have first seen this on Joe My God.  But it is on other news sites.  This shows not only the bigotry and hate of these right wing hate groups, but how they use their influence to hurt and harm anyone they target, anyone they think doesn’t push their bigotry, hate, and regressive views.  It is terrifying because they know what they are doing, and they know the result.  They really want to push society to be regressive, to be 1950 along with wiping the people they hate from society, from public view.  And they are clearly willing to use violence and threats of great harm to accomplish this.   Total intolerance to other views than what they accept.  They are a very dangerous threat to democracy and the idea of live and let live, to the idea of tolerance and acceptance.  To them, they need to dictate, their way only, even as we have seen in Florida they do not practice what they demand as one of their leaders got caught enjoying having sex with others of the same sex and having relations out of marriage.  Things they claim should be stopped and not be allowed to be talked about in public or in books in schools.   As Joe mentions below, this woman and her group ignore the abuse of children by clergy to only attack public schools.  The goal is to inspire hate, abuse, threats, and also gain attention for herself.   All because of returning to a time when no one but straight cis mostly white people were allowed to be promoted in society and the rest were hidden along with vilified.   It literally is terrorism via the internet to get her supporter thugs to attack the targets she selects.  There are many more important comments at the Joe My God site, but I am far too tired to keep posting.    Hugs.  Scottie

A Lewisville ISD staff member has been placed on administrative leave after a prominent right-wing social media account posted a video of him at school wearing a pink dress with matching boots and hat.

“This is an actual teacher in @LewisvilleISD,” the post reads. “How is this acceptable?!”

Students have defended the Hebron High School educator with a petition noting he was dressed up for spirit day.

District officials placed the man on leave Thursday after catching wind of the video, which had more than 4.3 million views by Friday afternoon on X, formerly known as Twitter.

 
“It would be natural for our families to have questions about this situation, but because this is a personnel matter currently under review, there is no additional information the district can share,” principal Amy Boughton said in a campus-wide email.

The staff member could not be reached for comment.

The district received complaints after Libs of TikTok, which has more than 2.8 million followers and is known for spreading anti-LGBTQ sentiment, posted the video on Valentine’s Day.

The post questioned whether it is acceptable for an educator to be “cosplaying as a woman and dress in drag at school.”

“It is our standard procedure to place a staff member on leave when we review concerns shared with the campus,” Lewisville spokesperson Amanda Brim said.

The video was also widely shared across other platforms.

Libs of TikTok posted images in replies to the initial video that appeared to be several years old. Other X users flooded Lewisville ISD’s account with the video and other photos.

More than 1,500 people have signed an online petition to bring the teacher off of administrative leave, adding that he was dressed up for spirit day.

“He does not deserve to be defamed and lose his job,” the petition reads. “He has been an inspiration to many students, and has created a space where everyone can feel valued and safe.”

I spent my years 6-8ish living in Plano. It was a bucolic place back then. Small, largely underdeveloped, easy. I have no idea what the politix were, cuz 6 years old. All I know is my best friend, Tommy, and I could leave on our bikes at 8 am (with peanut butter and bacon sammiches in our backpacks) and not come home until dinner and no one worried or had any reason to do so. Damn, how things have changed in (cough) 48 years.

Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday came out in support of a proposal to limit book bans in schools—the direct result of his own stupid policies. In a press conference, DeSantis tried to claim that accusations that he has enabled book bans in the state of Florida are “a fraud” and “a big hoax.”

In a press release from DeSantis’ office, the governor claimed Florida book bans are a “hoax,” arguing the state has simply “empowered parents to object to obscene material in the classroom.”
