  1. This is not unusual. Many companies do this sort of thing at the end of a year because they’re looking at the next year’s budget. Of course it’s crass and uncaring — especially during a ZOOM call!!! — but companies don’t really care about PEOPLE. They care about their bottom line.

    1. Employee ID number. We need

      no personal informarion. It’s

      a business decision. The

      modern day office memo.

      When they look into the

      camera, they do not see

      the eyes of despair

      and desperation of the

      Employer ID number.

      1. Have either of you seen the movie The Fifth Element. In the movie the bad guy super wealthy mega boss has one of his workers arrives with a message, suggesting that they fire employees in response to potential trouble with the economy. When Zorg suggests firing a million employees, he tries to argue that 500,000 would be enough, only to be met with a glare that sends him running off. That is how the wealthy see workers, as commodities, as livestock to make profit and then be disposed of. It is a sick system. Hugs

  2. Hi Scottie and Nan;
    I watched the video. I was impressed with his willingness to offer two months of cobra (continuing insurance, VERY expensive) and a month severance pay. Trust me when I say this is HUGELY unusual.
    The other thing I considered is that he is firing these people in a very impersonal manner. But, when you consider 900 employees being fired, how does one do that in a better manner? I think the logistics of the issue made it being done by a zoom call likely the only reasonable way.
    The final thing that was in my mind was that there is NO good time to be fired. There is always a sick kid, a car or house payment due, a holiday coming up.

    This does really underscore the idea that the job can disappear at any moment. As I write that, I consider the implications to spending, savings, the economy. What people need to remember is that the very wealthy don’t care if the economy tanks, because once you get into the billions its all sport. These guys aren’t worried about their next meal, their child’s education, the mortgage on their home. So when their mouthpieces in congress and the news shows yammer on about evil socialism, etc., I hope the lost middle-class and poor have planted a garden.

    1. Hello Randy. I would say multimillionaires will not be worried about the next meal, their child’s education, the mortgage on their home. Once you read the point where your money does the work making money for you are set. If you have over 100 million with no cash flow problems even if you lose half of it you are not in danger of a big lifestyle change. If you have to depend on a wage to survive and you lose half of it, you will have a huge lifestyle change. But Randy, my favorite foods do not grow in a garden! 😜😂🤣😁 Hugs
