The Orlando Sentinel reports:
The state will likely assume control of Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, rather than local governments absorbing it, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday. DeSantis said he is working on a proposal that likely will be considered by the Legislature after the November elections.
Reedy Creek, which encompasses Disney World and neighboring properties, is set to dissolve on June 1, 2023. The governor’s office hasn’t released a written plan detailing how the dissolution of Disney World’s private government will unfold.
At an event in Sanford, DeSantis also insisted Central Florida taxpayers will not be forced to absorb the district’s nearly $1 billion in debt. Under state law, the district’s assets and liabilities would be transferred to the “local general purpose government” when it’s abolished.
Read the full article. In other words, every Floridian will eat that billion dollars, not just the residents of Orange and Osceola counties.

Can you spell G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T-A-L O-V-E-R-R-E-A-C-H
Make no mistake, if the law they passed was fine and dandy, this part would’ve been initially included. Fucking idiots.
Florida residents are going to pay for DeSantis’ asshole moves for decades to come, just like we’re all paying for Trump’s.
I guess Floridians can either smarten up and organize or let this showboating asshole take you down the tubes with him.

This shitshow is a portent of America’s immediate future.
Why anyone would choose to do business in Florida after this is a mystery.
Sarcasm warning…Sarcasm warning…at Sardonic Level 10 and rising….
‘DeSantis Claims State Will Assume Control Of Disney’s Special Government District, Not The Local Counties’
Wow, I did not realise that Gov. DeSantis was a ‘Democratic Centralism’ *Communist. When did that happen guys?
What’s next…Nationalisation?

Hello Roger. I had to look that one up. DeathSantis is trying hard to look tough for his base thugs, and not piss off all the swing voters in that area who would be hit with higher taxes. Never mind this is the same party that preaches smaller government and getting government out of the lives of the people. They really don’t expect the bill to ever go into effect. They left a full year after the next elections before the bill becomes active. They expect Disney to cave after the elections leaving them time to undo the bill before then. But I doubt Disney will cave. Hugs

Just a bit of Leftie humour Scottie.
While I’m in a sardonic mood, it occurs to me…Could not Disney simply buy up Florida, I’m sure it has enough in its coffers…De Santis would look swell as Donald Duck, he acts like him anyway.

Hello Roger. I think he would do better as the drunken bar wench in the pirate’s ride. Disney employs a serious amount of people. States all over the country would promise Disney anything they wanted to move there. Heck just to open a theme park in their state they would give Disney one of their kids, or mistresses. So DeathSantis and the Republicans are playing with fire. They might push Disney too far and they would leave. The entire economy of Florida is built on tourism and Disney feeds the largest share of tourists. DeathSantis could kill that source of income. Then what would Florida have to attract people, swamps and bugs? Hugs
