Racism is real in the US

  1. Absolutely. The party of white arrogance can try to dig a hole and bury the truth, cover it up, but it’s still right there in front of our eyes. Always has been, and apparently always will be. šŸ˜”

    1. Hello Jill. Yes it is as plain as can be. Which is why I wonder why we have not eradicated it. I thought we were getting rid of it with Obama elected president, but I never counted on the open rebellion and white racists backlash to a black president. Then trump encouraged the racist to be out and proud of their hate. Now the republican party is endorsing racism with all the power of their failing party. It is horrible, and it is sad. The only good thing is that party is a minority and the racist in it are only a part of it. Hopefully. So as long as the republicans don’t get power any time soon, we can force the racists back under the rocks they crawled out from. Hugs

      1. I would take comfort from the fact that the Republican Party is in the minority nation-wide, but what concerns me is voting rights that are being challenged and blockaded in so many states today. If they succeed in disenfranchising large blocks of poor, elderly, young, and minority voters, then all bets are off. Hugs

        1. Hello Jill. Yes you are correct. Within some states the gerrymandering is so bad that democrats have to win over 75% of the votes to get only less than 50% of the seats. Here in Florida if it was not for gerrymandering and now voter restrictions the democrats would be in control of the state. As it is now we have to win overwhelmingly just to break even. And some people see this and want to be on the winning side so they become and vote for the republicans because they think that is the only party that can win now in this state. Hugs

          1. I think that what you say about some people simply wanting to be on the ‘winning’ side, whichever side that is, is apt, and something I had not thought about before. Question: What do you think are the odds of Charlie Crist beating DeSantis? I figure slim-to-none, but I think there is a possibility. I’m fairly impressed with Crist, but then admittedly I don’t know a lot about him. Hugs

            1. Hello Jill. DeathSantis only won his governor’s race with a very slim margin. When he ran, he was an unpopular arrogant state legislator. He got tRump’s attention and backing by doing commercials reading trump’s book to his baby child and also doing some playing build the wall with blocks with his kid, pandering fully to trump. He won by only a .4% margin.

I would have preferred Nikki Fried because her history as a democrat working for the people including being a public defender is clear. Charlie Crist has a muddled background. He was a republican governor who vetoed the bill that would have approved same sex marriage in Florida. He was long thought to be gay and got married only when he was being talked about for VP John McCain. That fell through. Now he has a girlfriend again as he is running for Governor. It is almost like his running for higher office needs a female accessory. Makes me think he is locked in the traditional republican mindset. He ran for governor before losing the primary, switched parties and ran for office again, won a congressional seat. He is 66 years old. He is not going to excite the base; he is not going to energize the young vote. However DeathSantis is really disliked by anyone not a white supremacist maga hateful bigot cult member. Plus a lot of older people died in the state due to DeathSantis handling of Covid. Right now it is +3 DeathSantis in polling but polls cannot be trusted. I think Charlie Crist will pull some of the independents or traditional republican voters from a radical maga DeathSantis. So I think we have a shot. Hugs
