At least three people are dead following a shooting inside a Safeway supermarket in Oregon on Sunday evening, police said.
The incident was reported just after 7 p.m. local time at The Forum Shopping Center in Bend, a small city on the Deschutes River, some 130 miles southeast of Oregon’s capital, Salem. The suspected shooter is among the dead, the Bend Police Department told ABC News.
Police believe the armed suspect entered from the back of the shopping center and initially fired into a Costco parking lot and a Big Lots store. There were no injuries reported at either of those locations, according to police.

This is my hometown, couple of my kids, grandkids still live there. One works at the Cosco next door. I have been in and out of that door a thousand times.
Sucks that I am relieved. Wasn’t any of my kids or grandkids, or anyone I know, which is a relief. But three people are dead, and I feel really shitty about being relieved. That just sucks.
I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s the alcohol, Bend is Beertown USA, the world’s largest per capita brewers of beer, with 47 bars downtown; maybe it’s the meth, methamphetamine, that flows as freely as the alcohol; maybe it’s evil spirits, they built a gated golf-course community over the top of an indigenous archeological site; maybe it’s the mercury in the water, in the air … I don’t know, but there is something wrong in my old hometown. It’s not the town I grew up in.
Best thing that could happen to Bend is burn end-to-end …
Well, I’m not sure I can go along with that last “best thing” … but it is discouraging that the town has changed so much over the years. But so have others. Signs of the times.
Hello Ten Bears. Please don’t feel it is wrong to feel relief that your family is safe. That is normal and OK. Yes three people are dead and one died fighting the gun man from what I read. I don’t know about that town and I think personally there are better ways to help people suffering from all of the issues you mention rather than wipe out the town, but I agree that we are in the world’s wealthiest nation and we could / should find ways for the government and the public to come together and find the solutions to the problem you mention. There are solutions, it can be done. We just have to want to do it. I am glad your family members are safe. Best wishes. Hugs
I don’t live anywhere near the shooting but just wanted to say that Bend used to be a quiet little town. Been there a number of times. I get the feeling and fear that a form of insanity has taken root in our country, related of course to TFG…
Hello Jimmy. I agree this gun violence increased a lot more when the TFG started spewing his hate and making his cult followers feel it was acceptable. Then the white supremacists felt they could spark the race war they seem to desperately to want to happen by attacking black people. But what is their goal, and why do they seem to think it would go their way? That is delusional. Have they seen racists countries. There is only one I know of that is successful and that is religiously driven and supported by the country with the largest military. That country is Israel. And it is to our shame we support them. Hugs
