Something of a common story in Europe these days.
Interesting though that the ‘Democrats’ are trying to clean up their image.

Hello Roger. It is hard for US people to understand the political set up of Europe and the different parties. We are so US centered we rarely hear about the workings of other countries. When we hear the names of the political parties we totally misunderstand if they are left or right wing, and what those parties stand for. Hugs

To be honest Scottie I think it is a facet of human perception that no one understands another nation’s politics.
That extends into a nation’s regions too. In the UK the politics tend to be London / England centred with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland being left by the majority (ie England as a bit of a mystery).
Actually the politics of Northern Ireland are best left to the locals, and those who study it.
I stick with the rule of thumb.
Watch out for parties with simple ‘solutions’ while calling themselves ‘Democrats’ or use ‘Freedom’ too often.

We are so US centered …
Boy is that the truth! Last night my other-half and I were watching the news and our conversation drifted to the Queen and all the pomp and circumstance … and then it moved into politics, as in their way and our way. In an excellent example of your comment, it was obvious his view was influenced by how the U.S. does things and … of course … when I tried to point out some of the differences, I was, shall we say, “misinformed.” As is my SOP, I said no more.
