Antarctic sea ice: lowest in 7.5 million years??

My thanks to Ten Bears for posting this.  I think this is a very important subject that is not getting enough attention.   More people want to talk about their next meal more than the fact the health of the Antarctic sea ice is seriously going to effect not only us selfish humans but every living thing starting with the ocean life.  When I watch this I want to run screaming out into my neighborhood, grab people and scream do you understand not only will our homes be underwater but we won’t have anything to eat !!!! But then Ron gives me a cool drink and reminds me there are laws against that grabbing of neighbors enforced on the not republicans all the time.

I am taking this from Ten Bears’ blog / website (I never do know what is the proper term now) without his permissions.

I did not ask yet

And from what I have read on his site, he doesn’t respond well to anyone just thinking they can grab anything of his and run away, and I am not just talking on the webs.  I do hope he might just give me a little grace on this one.

For those hearing impaired, do not worry.   The main speaker talks fast.  I used to talk that fast, but over thirty years in Florida I don’t even type fast anymore.  The Closed Caption is very good, they either do it themselves or pay for it.   Again well worth the 8+ minutes to understand the threat to our habitat and lives.  Hugs

Antarctic sea ice is behaving very, very weirdly right now. In the same year we saw a record minimum extent, we’re now seeing a record slow freeze-up, leaving a widening gap between observations and what we expect for the time of year.

A lot of people have tried to put a number on exactly how rare the event we’re witnessing is, and come up with some insane numbers. So what’s going on? Is this really the kind of event we should only see once in 7.5 million years??

Big thanks to Zack Labe for talking to me for this video, you can check out his fantastic visualisations on his website here: http://www.zacklabe.com and follow him on socials @ZLabe.

  1. Re: permissions — blogs are open to the public and, in my understanding, once it’s published, it’s fair game UNLESS the blog owner has a posted a “no reprints without permission/credit” statement.

    1. Hello Nan. I think you took my intro a little to seriously. It was written tongue in cheek. I was trying to lighten the mood. Ten Bears had just recently posted how he had let an incident slide that he in the past would have jacked the offending person up. He is a man who from what he has written grow up, lived, and worked in a hard part of society. He rightfully is proud of his maintaining his physical abilities as he aged. I was really trying to be funny. I think I failed in this case because several people did not get the joke. Hugs

    1. I pretty much thought you considered Scottie a fellow blogger and friend who shares responsibly and all that stuff, especially on this particular subject. You two can share this link, or toss a coin: https://www.freetheocean.com/journal/rios-transformation-from-trash-dump-to-mangrove-marvel/ . At least a little more oxygen for a little while!

Scottie, I’m glad you didn’t go out and do that! Although I understand the impulse, having fought it myself.

Thank you both for the work you do!

      1. I’ll tell you what happened: for probably fifteen or so years I tried to be a “writing blogger”, and nobody listened. I was ignored, mocked, made fun of … plagiarized a couple times. One day I just threw my hands the air and quit. Now I post links to what I read or review for others’ to read and review, if people follow through and read/review them GREAT!

If not, it’s no bark off my shins …

        1. Hi Ten Bears. I wish I had known of your longer worded stuff. I hope you might go back to it sometime. The few times you had written out stuff you experienced or felt it was powerful reading. So many in our blogging community have a way with words I admire and I seem to lack. I am just amazed at how you can keep track of all the climate stuff so well, your site is my go to place for climate / environmental information. Oh BTW is it a blog, website, or what the hell do we call these spots on the interwebs of tubes and pipes anymore? Hugs

      2. Hi Ali. I think you misread Ten Bears’ reply to me. He wrote he encourages people to share. “I share what I read and look at and encourage others to do so …” I had watched the video twice, and was horrified by it. I remembered in a recent post Ten Bears had written about letting a punk get way with making a rude remark about him, and I wrote the intro as a contrast to how serious I felt the video was. I guess I shouldn’t try humor, as I seem to fail at it. Anyway the important thing is the video and information it holds is in more of the public view. Hugs

    2. Thank you Ten Bears. As I just wrote to Nan, I think people did not get the tongue in cheek humor I was writing the intro in. The subject is so deadly serious, I wanted something to contrast that. The attempted failed because people commented on the intro and not the really important video. Anyway the message was available for people to hear / see. I want as many people to understand that we planet lice (as you call us) are destroying our needed habitat to live. The planet will go one, will heal from our damage, but we won’t be here. The next civilizations may never know how stupid we were. Hugs
