The movement to shrink Oregon and expand Idaho

These people want the minority to rule over the majority.  That is not democracy.  They want their way and if the others don’t agree, they will just change the situation to get their way regardless of what the majority want.  Just like in Florida with schools and libraries.  One woman in the story claims that their representatives don’t represent them, but as the man says the representatives told him they do hear those voters but they just get outvoted.  That is democracy.  Are they wrong to work for what they want, no!  But again, just as the LGBTQIA supporters were late getting involved to stop the right from removing all the LGBTQIA representation / information from schools and libraries, the people trying to keep Oregon the same size as it is now were late standing up to the ones demanding their own way and changing the borders to get it.  I have a feeling that these people wanting to change the borders would be at home in a maga rally or in Florida, agreeing with DeathSantis on all issues.   Hugs.

In a state dominated by progressive politics, some residents in rural Oregon east of the Cascade Mountains want to move the border so that their counties become part of Idaho, a more conservative state that more closely aligns with their values. Correspondent Lee Cowan returns to Oregon for an update on his story (originally broadcast Oct. 16, 2022), in which he talks with advocates of the Greater Idaho movement about why they believe the time is right for this “radical” idea.

    1. Hi TAURUSINGEMINI. I have been thinking on your comment. Yes normally a select few are in charge. Hopefully and in the places best for people to live the happiest lives, the few chosen to lead are picked by the people for the good of the people. What the above group wants is to control those that don’t think they way they do, and force those people to live under a different system, a system they don’t want. Again the people wanting to change the borders could just move but they don’t want to be inconvenienced, they instead want to inconvenience everyone else. Hugs. Scottie

  1. Nice shot of my grandparents’ store, campground, and the heart of my old hometown. That punk lives down the street from my daughter and grand-daughters, we have had words. He’s not a local, his grandfather didn’t build that store … he came here from the West Side. These are a very thin, very loud minority, trumpsuckers and trouble makers out for their fifteen seconds of fame.

If the damned fools spent as much time fireproofing their homes as they do preening for the cameras, maybe one day soon that stretch won’t catch fire and burn from Mt Shasta to Alaska …

    1. And Just One More Thing !

Did you notice how it opened on him at a bible study, stack a bibles in front of him? That’s supposed to count for more I guess, makes him something special, yet somehow being persecuted …

      1. Hello Ten Bears. Thanks for the information. Must be weird to see so much of your family history on a national story about some guy who moved there and now wants to change everything to make himself more important. As for the bible you are correct, it is part of the woe is me Christian persecution martyr idea far too many Christians seem to have. They are the majority religion in the US with hundreds of sects. Yet they act as they are being persecuted if they are prevented from oppressing non-Christians. Hugs

  2. I’ve commented on this before, but it bears repeating … if these folks like the fact that Idaho is deep RED, then they should move there! But of course, they don’t want to do that. They would rather make the whole situation a MAJOR project — one that could eventually involve the entire U.S. Congress!

Moreover, there are folks who live in these same counties that DO NOT WANT to become part of Idaho! Why should they be penalized because a few rednecks think they’re being oppressed?

Fortunately, the folks in the county I live in have common sense and voted against this movement.

    1. Hi Nan. It is again a case of fundamentalist religious ideologically driven people to force others to live the same way they do. They want to remove the freedoms of others because they are convinced that only they and their way is correct. Plus they want to please their god and feel he will favor them if they force everyone to live as they demand. Why should they be tolerant, Why should they be inconvenienced when they can force everyone else to be inconvenienced, why should other people be allowed to live as they wish, why should they just mind their own business instead of trying to control others. They are self-proclaimed important people, don’t you see. This is the way I see these type of people. Hugs

  3. I think the reason why more people here in Oregon aren’t speaking out against this is because, as the ending of the report reveals, it’s actually a very difficult process and very unlikely to happen. This needs the Idaho legislature to vote to approve it (notice that the Idaho legislature only voted for discussion of the idea–there are plenty of people in Idaho who are not sure they want this). Then, the Oregon legislature would have to vote to approve, and finally Congress. The leader of the Greater Idaho movement is, unsurprisingly, making it sound way easier than it would be.

That being said, Democrats in Oregon are definitely talking about the need to reach out more and listen more to the people who live in rural Oregon. Obviously, there is a lot of hostility and the feeling that needs and voices are not being heard. If nothing else, we don’t want to live in a house which is that divided, because that never ends well.

      1. True. And while I do think it’s a good idea to listen to people with a different point of view, I will also admit that a lot of the rural MAGA followers don’t actually want to reach any kind of understanding or reconciliation. They hate those of us who are different from them, and don’t care to move beyond that. And that certainly makes things complicated…

        1. I’ve found in my home that mention of any well-known Democrat brings out the venom and snide remarks so any kind of discussion of politics is verboten. And he’s not necessarily MAGA … it just seems to go with the territory for some folks on “that” side of the aisle.

    1. Hello EUROBRAT. I don’t live there, but the video did say that the legislators claimed they did listen to the rural areas but that those areas were out voted. Remember they get representatives also that they vote for. What they want is to get their own way all the time. These fundamentalist Christian ideologues do not want to co-exist, they want to control the way everyone lives so it suits them. They believe only their way is the correct way and the way all people should live. And as you can see from what is happening in Florida, you can not please these people by half measures. If they get anything they will demand more and more until they get the right to force others to live as they do, in a 1950s mindset, a 1950s strict gender role cis straight society. I cannot see why everyone else has to regress, have to revert to the 1950s from the modern times to please those few unwilling to accept others and society as it is today. Hugs

      1. Oh, I completely agree and have no interest whatsoever in going back to the 1950s. Yes, our local conservatives are frequently very angry about the legislature being overwhelmingly Democratic and about being outvoted by the Portland metro area, but well, that is where a large chunk of the population of the state is! Unfortunately, rather than try to craft good policy ideas so that they can convince the majority of the population to vote for them, today’s MAGA crowd wants to grab minority rule through tricks and force….

        1. Well said Eurobrat. Yes the right seems to think land votes instead of people. The large states with small populations seem to think they should control the country because their states are republican controlled. But they simply don’t have as many people as urban areas. Like in Florida the voting map looks like far more of the state votes red but that is sparsely populated zones, whereas the cities are smaller land wise but have far more people. Hugs
