I am posting this because of the comments. At the end of the comments you will see what I and Ali have been saying, if gender can not be discussed then teachers can not be addressed as Mr. or Mrs or Miss. Also how to explain what bathrooms kids are required to use without discussing gender? Then also if sexual orientation can not be discussed and same sex couples can not be mentioned, why doesn’t that also mean that opposite sex couples shouldn’t be mentioned? Hugs
The Tallahassee Democrat reports:
Manatee County officials have removed “Christian, the Hugging Lion” by Justin Richardson, a 32-page children’s book about two men who raise a lion named Christian in a London apartment. When Christian becomes too big, the two men release the lion into the wild in Africa. When the men go to visit Christian in Africa, they find that he remembers them. The book is based on a true story.
The district cited The Parental Rights in Education Act as the reason for removing the book from district libraries. The Parental Rights in Education Act has a line prohibiting the discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in classrooms. While the two men, John and Ace, lived together in London and raised Christian the lion, it is never explicitly said in the book whether the two men were in a relationship.

Hello Nan. That is why when I do post a Joe My God post, I include them. Comments are my downfall on any blog including yours. I can spend hours going through them, suddenly realizing I have spent hours reading without getting anything else done. For example I had gotten up to 212 open tabs in 6 windows that every day I carry forward. Today I am going through them, reading main parts of blogs, ignoring comments and concentrating on tabs of comments like this one. I have three windows to go, my goal is to get all tabs gone by tonight and then start tomorrow while trying to never let it get that late or big again. Hugs. Scottie

How on earth does not mentioning the nature of the relationship or the sexual orientation of the two men constitute “the discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in classrooms”? Give me strength!
I might add, had the story involved a husband and wife instead of the two men, and their relationship as husband and wife mentioned even once, then that would, in effect, be the discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in classrooms as it would be describing the couple as cis-gendered (gender identity) and heterosexual (sexual orientation).

Hi Barry. You are correct on all points. That is what sane people keep pointing out in courts. But the point of the laws are to deny any mention of non-straight, non-cis, relationships. These people want a 1950s society where only straight white couples were written about, where only straight cis kids were in schools and dated while all those other different kids hid who they were along with how they felt. They want gay, lesbian, and trans kids to feel shame and hide. They want no mention of what they feel are evil devil inspired thoughts like being attracted to the same gender or not being identifying with the gender assigned at birth. See god down’t make mistakes, and he created only men and women, each has their gender role. Somehow they think returning to that time will remove or stop any new gay or trans kids from existing. WTF! It failed to stop gay and trans kids being born the first time why would it work now?
Of course it is bullshit. But the problem is the courts have been stacked with hard right religious believers who keep denying there is any problem with this sudden purge of all things LGBTQIA and of course a return to 1950s morality driven by the Christian church is proper.
Barry thanks for your support on this issue. I am so tired right now of this fight. I am 60 years old this year. I know you are older. But I grew up in a hateful anti-gay environment and I thought the world we left the young people of today was way beyond that. I thought it was a world where they could be free, they could express openly who they were, love who they wanted, date who they liked. Now this. Sorry, I am just really heart sick right now. Best wishes. Scottie

Bible has to be next then……
“disciple Jesus loved” (John 13:23)???????.
There was a time this would not have news Scottie. It would have been material for ‘King of the Hill’ or ‘Wait til your father gets home,’

Hello Roger. Yes you are correct. But these people are driven to wipe people like me and anyone not straight Christian cis people from social view, and removing us from public. They really want to drive kids back to the time when being different was a case for fear and to hide. They love what Putin did in Russia just making the entire LGBTQIA illegal, genocide for people like me. All using their religion as the reason.
Roger as upset as I am over this, I know this is not the majority of Christian sects. But these people are the majority in these areas, and their goal is to force everyone to follow the doctrines of their church. Their goal is to make their views the mandatory way everyone must follow. And they are winning, Roger. It is scaring me, scaring the hell I don’t believe in out of me.
Roger in this time of religious hate in the US we need people like you, people who follow a loving god, to do everything you can to fight the hate mongers. I remember after 9 / 11 terrorist attack that Christians were demanding that Muslims stand up and reject / refute the hate of their fellow believers. Now I wonder where are the same calls for loving Christians to stand up against the ones trying to erase me and kids that were me. Loves and hugs. Scottie

You have my best wishes Scottie.
These people who spread their hate and lies are hypocrites who understanding of their alleged ‘faith’ is tailored only to suit their narrow mindsets.
It is a tragedy to see the progress fought for over the decades being unravelled. People who howl about the right to carry weapons of death yet impose their own views on others. Hypocrisy!
Christ’s teachings tell us a great deal about such, and they would be exposed from what they are if they encountered Him face to face.
These bigots and hypocrites will damage lives and the structure of the USA if left unchecked.
Take care.
Again our best wishes to you.
Roger & Sheila.
