Voted Themselves a Raise …

  1. We have an independent commission to set salaries for public service employees and executives, and at the turn of this century, the legislature passed a law placing themselves and cabinet under the same salaries commission. One thing I can say about this country is that not only is it the least corrupt nation on earth, we go out of our way to ensure it is seen as not being corrupt. This is an example.

Mind you, it did come back to bite them. During the pandemic, the salaries commission raised the salaries of many public service executives, including the Prime Minister, other ministers and Members of Parliament. Most of them thought under the circumstances they shouldn’t receive a raise as so many people were facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic, but they found they could not refuse it. Their only option was to donate the pay rise to a charity and that is what many of them did.

  2. Scottie, I’d read Ten’s post earlier today, and your comments are spot on.

This will be OT but pertinent to your blog, plus you’ll enjoy it. You know I read personnelente, as I’ve posted their links here before. Here’s another one, and if you follow through to the one, you’ll find another one, and if you don’t howl with laughter, you will have a most satisfied good chuckle! The basic subject isn’t funny, but justice works in mysterious ways, and little things happen. Here’s personnelente’s link: https://personnelente.wordpress.com/2023/10/01/south-park-v-moms-for-liberty/comment-page-1/#comment-1414 . None of it is a long read, though the 3d page is hilarious to explore.
