Egyptian Comedian Bassem Youssef: Israel Is “Shooting Fish In A Barrel And Gets Annoyed By The Splashes”

During the interview, Bassem Yousef points out that even before these Hamas attacks for years the Israeli military has been killing Palestinians including a massive number of children in the West Bank, a place that Hamas doesn’t control or operate in.  It is disgusting what the world has let Israel get away with using Palestinian humans for target practice for seeming sport.   Hugs

Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef speaks out against Israel’s war in Gaza, calling out Ron DeSantis and Ben Shapiro as prominent pro-Israel opinionators during an appearance with Piers Morgan:

BASSEM YOUSSEF: I want to understand what is the logic of Israel carpet bombing Gaza. I mean, if there is a logic, if it is a good, if this will make Israle safe, I want to hear the logic. So if they continue bombing, what are they hoping to achieve?

So if I can understand this correctly, Israel is doing this to pressure the Palestinian community in Gaza to turn against Hamas. If that right?

That’s part of it. This is exactly what terrorist organizations do, because terrorist organizations will have no chance of beating a whole nation in battle, so they terrorize and kill the civilians in order to spread fear and terror so they can turn against their government to change their policy or resign. You have just compared Israel with Isis.

I would say I really applaud Israel for doing one thing that no military force in the world does. Because I heard Ben Shapiro, and I heard Ron DeSantis, and they said Israel is the only military force in the world that warns civilians before bombing them. I mean, how fucking cute! That is so nice of them.

Because with this logic, if Russian troops started warning Ukrainians before bombing their houses, we’re cool with Putin, right? Habibi, you have warned them, go invade. It’s fine, you’ve done your job.

The Israeli Defense Minister said those are human animals. And the thing is Ben Shapiro should know better, because long before the Holocaust, before Jews were thrown in the gas chambers, the Nazi propaganda called them rats. As a human being, I would never accept another human being being thrown into a gas chamber. But a rat? Kill ten, kill 1,000, 3,500, they’re a son of a bitch. They are human animals who live in open sewage and decapitate babies. And because of that propaganda, that guy in Illinois… killed stabbing the six-year-old Palestinian kid… and they used to be friends… It took you 80 years to change one word, from “Jewish” to “Muslim.” And then you transferred your guilt to us.

This is the problem, Israel always victimizes itself. And I have never seen a victim putting their oppressors under siege and bombing them 24/7. Israel wants you to believe they are the victims.

Dealing with Israel is so difficult. It’s like being in a relationship with a narcissistic psychopath, he fucks you up and then he makes you think it’s your fault. You look at Israel as Superman, but they’re really Homelander. They are shooting fish in a barrel and they’re annoyed by the splashes.

  1. OK, so I read backwards when I read people’s blogs; I saw the one about Israel-ISIS before this, and Youssef mentioned the warnings in that one, too. My comment in a bit occurred to me then, but the rest of that piece is very darkly humorous and Morgan’s a butt, IMO, so I didn’t comment there, just enjoyed Morgan getting roasted.

But this one also brings up the bit about Israel warning before they strike. I want to know how
many people in the Palestinians’s positions want to know they’re going to be bombed, since they can’t really get anywhere to be safe in the amount of time and space they’re given? I’d rather not know in their positions; it’s like a cat toying with a mouse before taking its head off. IMO.

I remember when I first got a well balanced picture of the Israel-Palestine thing (it was in “The Nation” magazine, late 80s,) and there would be warnings of this action and that action in retaliation for rock-throwing children, and it was said then that the warnings just made everyone feel worse since they had nowhere to go and no time to get there or to protect property (Palestinians still had some then.) So the thing with trying to credit Israel with humanitarianism because they warn before they bomb just makes no sense to me, since it’s actually emotional torture, to me. But Israel isn’t the entity stating this in its defense, either; it is bloodthirsty US citizens who have no skin in this.

OK, that sounds as if I’ve taken a side. I have not, as to this very current stuff. I know what’s been going on since Israel was brought into existence. Hamas and Palestine are not one and the same, I abhor Palestine being retaliated against for things they didn’t do. I don’t know what the answer is, but I’m not sure what, exactly can be expected of Israel, either. I hope they stop and figure this out before they turn all of Palestine into Hamas, which would be playing into Hamas’s hands, and will destroy all the people. Probably much to Putin’s, Saudi’s, Iran’s, and whoever’s glee. I wonder what the bloodthirsty US citizens will do then?

    1. Hi Ali. I love your comment and I am going to try to reply to it line by line. But if I miss a point you want to make please reply again. This is such a vital topic with so many twists, it is hard to make a reply that won’t need editing later.

As for Morgan getting roasted, I think most people who come here also agree he is a huge jerk / asshole. He has shown and admitted on air he is a racist. He has also shown he is someone who values people with wealth, far over people who are poor. But like you I loved him getting his ass handed to him here.

Now one thing I have to say is I did not understand your reply I read backwards when I read people’s blogs but hat is OK, I understand the rest OK.

About warning the Palestinians including the hospitals to leave as they said they planned to bomb the hospitals as they have done before according to the Doctors Without Borders, who released a statement that they often got bombed by Israel while working in Palestinian hospitals. That is a war crime that the US is preventing the UN from investigating. About the cat playing with the mouse, you are correct but it is worse than that. See it is pure PR! The Israeli government knows the people in the Gaza Strip have nowhere to flee to, they made that impossible and they are proud of that. That is why the shooting fish in a barrel saying is being used. The first thing the Israeli military did was bomb the only road out of Gaza to Egypt, and of course they closed off the other road that goes to Israel. Those are the only two ways out. So it is simply about being able to say to the international community that we told them to leave, yet they did not. That is domestic abuser type shit.

Yes Ali, Palestinians have rocks, and slingshots. Israel has F-16s and missiles supplied by the US. Plus they also have the Iron Dome missile defense system provided by the US. Gaza does not have either of those. Israel built a wall maned by sharp shooters with high-powered rifles that pick off kids, dogs, and reporters far from that illegal wall and then claim they had to do so to protect themselves. But according to Israel, they are the victims. They are not, they have a plan they have been implementing for decades to reclaim all the land they claim their god gave them. This is not valid. They were given a set aside as were the Palestinians for two states. Israel is and has been violating that agreement to stake a religious claim to land based on their own version of a “holy book”.

As for your last paragraph of not taking a side. I have! I take the side of the civilians on both sides. Would it surprise you that a lot of Israeli citizens, Jewish people are demanding their government stop. They are claiming their government is doing war crimes. Yes it is true, and the hard line Israeli government is putting those protestors in jail. Why because the government plan has always been to take over the Gaza Strip as its own territory with no Palestinians, and then do the same with the West bank. This has been the plan for years! The fact is the Israeli people have not wanted this for years, it has been driven by the Orthodox sect of Judaism. Really I have been reading up on it, and the Israeli government has been going harder right, more religious as Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu has struggled to stay in power to avoid his own corruption charges. Including he forced a change in the laws to prevent the court from being able to find him guilty. Remind you of tRump, only he is smarter. But to avoid jail and stay in power, he had to keep giving the religious right hardliners in his country more power, and tRump endorsed it.

So yes I have a side now in this fight. I openly admit I fight against religious take over of any government and what those religious groups want to do to those they feel are their enemies.

Ali, I am going to try to proofread this, but please overlook the mistakes. I had a very hard day and am right now heavily medicated. I wouldn’t allow Ron to go to the store alone but he insisted on going on a Saturday and it was madness and we were out all morning, at least five hours worth. Then I had to carry everything in as Ron still is hobbling, and then he went to bed to rest and I started to take medications and quiet my pain. Sadly now we have to wash the ass and lower body of our 40 pound cat who seems to like getting poop / pee / kitty litter all over his butthole to his lower body. But he hates us to clean it off. He is far too fat to clean himself, but he still is a strong cat, so I have to struggle to hold him as he fights while Ron washes him. The reason we do it this way is he will claw and bite Ron but he won’t do that to me. So I struggle to hold him while Ron was washes him. Hugs, Scottie

Follow up: I am in a lot more pain. Odie managed to claw a lot of the two puppy pads into the water filled sink. He cried and screamed while looking up at me and occasionally licking my hand … While he was using every bit of his strength to pull against me. He was not being hurt, it was warm water with a wash cloth, but oh he is a drama queen. As soon as I let him down, he wagged his tail and walked to his treaty dish. He is right now sound asleep happily on my desk after downing a ton of treaties that his diabetes shot will have to try to cover. For him it is all a game. For Ron and I it is a complete struggle and a lot of pain medication after. Hugs.

      1. Pets! Gotta love ’em…

I wrote a lot of stuff. I think you hit it all. It turns out we’re on the same side; the side of those who are innocent of the wrong-doing but are being hurt and killed.

I hope your rest is good tonight!

      2. Oh, yeah! I can actually read backwards (very slowly,) but that’s not what I mean. When I click onto a blog to read, I usually start with the newest entry, and work backward in entries.

        1. Hello Ali. Yes I rested well, Ron used the red sauce I made to make raviolis and salads for supper. After I ate, I went to bed. I also read blogs that way if I have not been to the blog in a while. But for me I try to use the bell icon because I follow so many blogs it is easier to do it that way. I get notified in the icon of new posts. I click that and go right to the post. Be well. Hugs, Scottie

  2. Off-topic, but I thought this might interest you, Scottie … it’s from Thom Hartmann’s substack report. I sent it to you in an email, but I know how you are about checking emails so I thought I’d stick it in here.

    — How many American will face “climate gentrification” and what will be done? During the seven years that Louise and I (and three cats and a dog) lived on our 46-foot boat (the Freedom) in the main Washington, DC waterfront marina, we saw a dramatic transformation of the area. It was mostly housing for the poor when we moved in; by the time we left it had been nearly completely gentrified because a developer group had moved in and re-done the waterfront. That was a case of gentrification for the most common reason: to make money by upgrading an otherwise-desirable place to attract more upscale residents. But Miami — along with coastal cities all across America and around the world — is facing a different type of gentrification: it’s being forced by climate change. Little Haiti, a largely poor and Black neighborhood of Miami, is ten feet above sea level and thus much more immune to the rising water that’s already causing regular tidal flooding all over the rest of the city. As a result, the developers are moving in and buying up property to upgrade and re-sell or rent to higher-income people looking to escape the flooding. As is so often the case, poor people are getting screwed while wealthy people are adapting to the changes we’re seeing up to this point. With more than a million Miami-Dade residents living in what will soon be monthly flood zones, though, what’s now a process that’s just beginning will probably turn into a free-for-all over the next decade in nearly every coastal city in the world. Climate change is just starting to really bite us: it’s going to get a lot worse over the next decade or two.

    1. Hi Nan. Thanks for this. I wrote you a reply about how well off gay gentrification was a problem in West Palm Beach when we were there. But then WordPress threw up and I lost the entire thing. Well off gay couples were buying up historical areas, remodeling them and gaying them up. That made the home costs soar, property values to go up. These same well off gays would put on “airs” acting like they were better than others. Ron called them snarky queens. Not all of course, but a lot of them. The kind of people who think it is their duty to tell you how you should change your home, your lawn, the vehicle you drive … the entire over the top kind of thing. But like in the article you sent, it drove a lot of people from their neighborhoods and homes. Hugs. Scottie

      1. I’m sure you realize that Hartmann wasn’t talking about gay couples — but more about what climate change is doing to the area and how it’s affecting the “largely poor and Black neighborhood”.

The part that stood out to me is … poor people are getting screwed while wealthy people are adapting to the changes we’re seeing up to this point. Of course, sadly, this is nothing new.

        1. Yes Nan. I did realize that. I was relating the gentrification to what I saw happening in neighborhoods in WPB when I lived there. Gentrification is an old problem. Of course the lower incomes are the ones who get screwed when those with more money want what the poor have. Hugs. Scottie
