It has been a very long hard day

Ron is still struggling with his leg.  I told the pharmacy I would get my narcotics tomorrow instead of today, yes it is an issue in this state.  More on that another time but I live in a state where right wing Christian part-time legislator bigots think they know more than pain doctors and pharmacist with training in the drugs and experience in the medical field.  Their view is people in pain just need Jesus and to dedicate their lives to him rather than pain medications.   I have over done today due to Ron still hobbling on his twisted knee.

After he got up from a three hour nap Ron made a beef burrito in spicy red sauce and several baked potatoes along with a thick red sauce gravy for them.  Yes, I helped him, but the creation and the spices are all to his credit.  Now I offered to help put it way, but he said he wanted to do it.  Funny thing, each of us could only eat one burrito and one potato.  Ron gave me two and himself two and I asked him to take one back, and after we ate he admitted he wished he had only taken one also.  He had to put his second one back in the pan.

It is only 5 Pm but I am so tired I would go to bed now and be happy.  But I have not played Halo in a few days.  I am trying to decide if going to the work of pulling out the TV on that very heavy bracket and playing an hour or two would be better than just going to bed.  Silly question.  Halo won that debate without even trying.   I will try to play.  If I don’t work out, I will go to bed.  I was up most of last night.  So I really am tired out after all I did today.

Hugs, loves, best wishes.   Scottie

  1. A burrito AND a baked potato??? Sheesh! I’m happy with just one or the other and would be absolutely STUFFED to discomfort if I ate both. (Plus the scales would complain! 😄)

    1. Hi Nan. Yes it seems like a lot for older people who do not exercise a lot like us. But that is a large decrease in what we used to eat just a year ago. I weighed my self this morning, and I am down to 183.2 from 200 last year. The thing is I am not really trying to lose or diet. I just don’t feel hungry as I used to, and I don’t eat as much. Some days I eat only one meal, most days it is two meals, with the supper one being small with a salad. Hugs. Scottie

      1. Sometimes “dieting” is best accomplished by eating the usual 3-meals-a-day (even when we’re not especially “hungry”) because it balances out the natural hunger we feel when our stomachs get empty … which then often results in binge-eating.

Of course, I’m no dietician, but I have been able to keep my weight down–and steady– by following my own advice. 😁

        1. Hi Nan. I agree people need to listen to their bodies. When I was first put in a wheelchair due to my bones decaying, Ron kept trying to feed me big meals like I ate when I was working and doing stuff. I just did not want to eat that much. Ron complained to my doctor that I was not eating. My orthopedic surgeon told him to not stress or try to push food on me, when I was hungry I would eat. He also told me not to let Ron baby me and do everything for me as that would ruin the special relationship we have.

My endocrinologist is very impressed with my weight loss, as he says it is normally very hard for people to lose weight on insulin. He says it is a tribute to my effort to diet and exercise. But the truth is, I am not really doing either. I just don’t get hungry, and I don’t want to eat. Now after years of eating large amounts and gaining weight he really hates, Ron also has lost his hunger and is slowly dropping weight. My slower than I am, but he has a thyroid issues I don’t have. But Ron’s issue is he gets hungry at night, maybe because he worked nights since 2014 until he retired in 2020. So when he gets really hungry later in the evening and ends up snacking before bed. That drives his blood sugar up. Maybe I am losing weight is because I have cut out almost all snacks, no sweets except the once every few months pancakes, and my morning blood sugars are normally between 90 and 105. A lot of mornings I am in the low 80s. The only time I have high blood sugars anymore is when I have my steroid shots. I had them a month ago, after three weeks my blood sugars are low again, but due to needing them now in my shoulders I will be getting them again on the 2nd of November and soon I have to have the spine ones. It never seems to stop. I will say my blood sugar has been very well controlled by insulin, which is affordable for me because I am on medicare. I got a bunch of medications today. The normal costs are stunning and outrageous compared with what I pay with Medicare part D. Thanks. Hugs. Scottie
