  1. “I pray for a day when everyone is accepted. So join me by worshipping a book that says gay people, wierd people, kids, non-jews, women, slaves, men with dick skin, atheists, anyone that has another religion, and people that break my random list of 613 rules should be FUCKED AND GO TO HELL!!!!!!!! You know, gentle acceptance.”

    1. Hi SPARTANATHEIST. Nope that is not what he preaches nor what he pushes. In fact his whole thing is inclusion and tolerance. If you don’t like it look away, he says, it is not your job to police your fellow humans. That is god’s job.

Now I am not enough versed in the bible and the many interpretations in it to argue if he is right or wrong, but he is consistent about it. He preaches, love, inclusion, the LGBTQIA are welcome in his church and before his god. Rather nice to hear a well respected preacher say. Hugs. Scottie

  2. Hi, Scottie. I’m pleased that tolerance and inclusion are his beliefs and the subject of his sermons. But, well, he is still hitching his belief system to the idea that the god damned bible has any sort of reason to be revered.

It’s cognitive dissonance. It’s like holding up Mein Kampf while preaching peaceful and non-violent love of all people. Good message and all, but your book literally says the opposite.

Anyway, I find this mental mechanism of contorting personal belief to fit extremely contrary group beliefs an interesting subject.

    1. Hello thespartanatheist. I understand what you are saying, and also disagree with you.

See my life was saved after a bad beating by my adoptive father. The man who found me and fought my adoptive parents to let me attend an SDA church boarding school and then paid the entire cost of putting me in the school including intervening when I accidentally did not follow the religious guidelines or acted out because of my upbringing, was a highly religious Christian man. He did not agree with the fundamentalist who at that time were trying to force religion into public schools. He did not want that, he wanted a separation from state and religious organizations. When I asked him about that, and remember he was a wealthy man, he said very simply “I don’t want the government in my church nor in our church schools, so why would I want the reverse, my religion in public schools or state organizations”?

I learned a lot from that man. But we parted ways when I graduated from the church school. He was willing to pay for me to go on to their seminary school, because I think in his mind I still had a lot of growing up to do. But I was gay. That was the issue. Could I stop being that, would I be willing to go to church approved therapy for it?

No I had already realized it was who I was. It was not due to my abuse or rapes, it was what I felt inside. So instead I went into the military.

Another reason I disagree with you on that is both Roger and his wife and also Ali to name just two openly very religious people who are not only followers of my blog, but strong supporters of all the LGBTQIA. Plus if you watch more of Rev. Trevors video’s you see he has found a way to interpret the bible to include those of us who are different. He rejects any kind of hate or religious bias against us. And he is able to use the bible to back up his assertions.

      See thespartanatheist as you say
it is cognitive dissonance, the bible or the Christian religion is just what you want it to be, and the books are so vague you input your views into them. They’re bad Christian who use the bible for hate. There are also great people who use the bible or their belief to be grand wonder people helping other.

Yes it is interesting. But in honestly, all people have a “code” they live by regardless if they are religious or not. As long as it is a personal code to guide themselves and not a thing they use to bludgeon or harm others, it really is a good thing.

Soldiers have on the battlefield, and hospital people have their personal code of acting also. I know I was both. Religion is just that to me. A way you give yourself permission to act. Some are doing good for others, and some are doing harm. It really is what is inside the person, not the books they follow.

So while I agree with you the bible is a horrible book full of terrible shit, I disagree that those that use it to support them doing good things is wrong. Is the bible read without a religious view bad? Of course! A book full of sex, incest, death and destruction, and even same-sex love is what all the right these days are trying to ban from schools and libraries, except for their book the bible, of course!

I am really interested in your response to my reply. I love what I have read your writings, even if I have not been there recently, and I really think you have an education on these matters I never had. Best wishes, hugs, Scottie

  3. Hi, Scottie. From where I sit, you just basically demonstrated my point. Wonderful people who have adopted beliefs that run contrary to the founding document.

The Bible is super clear on homosexuality. It may be fuzzy on a lot of things, but that is not one of them. So kudos to these people. But I still can’t help but wonder why they continue to want inclusion in the religion.

    1. Hi SPARTANATHEIST. In a way I agree we are saying very similar things. But we are putting different emphasis on what we each think is important.

I do disagree with you on the bible being clear on homosexuality. The King James translation clearly is homophobic, and people that want to hate gays use it to claim god is against gay sex. But biblical scholars disagree with that translation. As for the passage about men not laying with men, it is a mistranslation, just as the idea of Mary being a virgin was a mistranslation. The most original of the manuscripts use the language meaning young boy. It is in reference to the practice of having sex with very young boy temple servants, which was a popular thing back then with different religious groups. It was an attempt to separate the Christ followers from other religions. And Jesus never addressed the subject, but as Roger recently reminded me he healed the Centurions hinted at male lover with no hesitation at all. And different lead characters in the Bible clearly had male lovers and there are Psalms that are clearly love poems written by male leaders to their male lovers.

But as you say a person can find anything they want in the bible, good or bad. I just reject the idea that the entire book is all bad. There are some good inspirational ideas in it. And a lot of bullshit. Hugs. Scottie
